Shockingly Terrible Drivers

Posted by A. Abrams

The moment you sit behind the steering wheel, everyone on the road becomes your enemy. Especially when you’re running late. We’ve all gotten annoyed at other drivers before. Sometimes you even go out of your way to yell or honk at others. When you’ve succumbed to road rage, it’s hard to admit fault. But it’s not always in your head.

These photos show there are truly some idiotic drivers out there. The people pictured below should have their licenses revoked. The road is a shared space, you can’t just do whatever you want! When you’re behind the wheel you must pay attention to your surroundings.

These bad drivers would be hilarious if they weren’t so dangerous!

The Footless Driver

This girl must have had the car on cruise control. Even after you set your car to a certain speed, you still need your foot near the brakes in case anything happens. Someone could cut in front of you or you could come up against traffic. Your reaction time is going to be greatly delayed when you have to uncross your legs before hitting the brake.

reddit by u/Prizz419

She’s also going way too fast. We’re pretty sure no roads in the US permit 95mph. The craziest thing is that someone is calmly resting their hand on her leg. The passenger should be yelling at her to put her feet down. We wonder if they made it home in one piece.

Gravel Transport

Trucks are meant to transport all sorts of items in their open trunk. But you have to be sure to close things in. This driver forgot to pull up the cargo bed. Now if they have to abruptly break or make a sharp turn, they’re going to lose their pebbles. That’s definitely not safe for other drivers. Driving through gravel is fine when carefully cruising off-road, but not in the middle of a highway.

reddit by u/YourBestAnswer

This could’ve all been avoided if they’d exercised basic caution. It’s not like there was too much gravel that they couldn’t close the door. It was just forgetfulness or carelessness. Driving is all about responsibility and awareness and it’s clear this driver has none.  We wonder if all the gravel made it to the final destination.

Turn On The Lights In Here Baby

One of the first things you learn about safe driving is to turn on your headlights. Once the sun sets it’s time to switch them on. When it rains, they’re on. Some drivers even go as far as to use them on overcast or foggy days. It’s better to be safe than sorry. Not only does it help you see the road better, but it also allows other cars to see you. This is crucial when it comes to merging or breaking.

reddit by u/CasualFenrir

This car is invisible in the storm. If you have a gray or dark-colored vehicle and it rains, headlights are a necessity. This kind of negligence could get you pulled over, or worse, killed. If this truck tried to merge the car behind it would be totaled. Nowadays, there are more advanced vehicles with lights that come on automatically. This driver needs one of those.

Exposed Brick

This car’s cargo could be deadly to fellow drivers. Bricks are way more destructive when they’re littered on the road. That’s the kind of item you’d swerve to avoid. No tire could survive going over all of these. This truck is completely missing its cargo bed. The driver couldn’t keep those bricks in place even if they wanted to.

reddit by u/EADEJR

If you can’t safely transfer objects, then you shouldn’t be moving them. This driver didn’t even try to find a good way to secure those bricks. They could’ve at least piled them in a sack or attempted to create a makeshift back door. If you saw this car on the road, you’d be advised to pass it.

Where There’s Smoke There’s Fire

Gasoline is highly flammable. Therefore, smoking a cigarette in a gas station is one of the stupidest things you could do. You’d endanger everyone around you. If burning ash falls onto the wrong thing, you’re going up in flames. There’s a reason you smell gasoline for a couple of minutes after you fill up your tank. The substance isn’t perfectly contained, and neither is fire.

reddit by u/PricklyDangerNoodle

Gasoline is burned inside your engine to make fuel. Only an idiot would forget that fact and assume a gas station was a safe place for a cigarette break. This habit is already unhealthy, but smoking a cigarette in a gas station is a death wish.

Precarious Ladder Transfer

This ladder is precariously balancing on the edge of this truck. There must be a better way to transfer this kind of cargo. Maybe one that doesn’t involve the ladder taking up two lanes. It can be considered an anti-merge tactic. No car can drive on the right of this truck without getting swiped. This is a surefire way to keep others far away from you.

reddit by u/Username_username111

It would’ve been ten times worse if this truck had been driving through heavy traffic. Thankfully, it looks like there aren’t many people on the road. Hopefully, there aren’t any sharp turns coming up either. You don’t want that ladder swinging around like a pendulum. You can be sure no one is going to tailgate this truck today.

Treadless Tires

New tires have a tread depth of about eight to nine millimeters. Though that measurement might seem small, they make a huge difference when it comes to the tire’s grip. Without it, the car wouldn’t be able to break and navigate slippery roads. These tires with zero tread are incredibly dangerous. This car’s about to slip on every turn.

reddit by u/clam-caravan

These tires needed to be replaced a long time ago. It’s common for people to fall behind on car maintenance. Many are guilty of ignoring their check engine light. But this is a problem you can’t ignore as it very clearly affects your safety. Even on dry roads, these tires aren’t safe.

Get Off Your High Tires

This truck is lifted so high that the driver can’t see the Porsche in front. It looks like it just kept going into the intersection until it felt resistance. However, the Porsche doesn’t look like it was harmed. It seems like no part of the truck was low enough to cause any serious impact, plus they were probably slowly rolling to a stop.

reddit by u/AnynameIwant1

Crashing into a Porsche is probably one of the worst kinds of accidents you can get into. You don’t want to mess with expensive cars since they need expensive replacements. Also, the lift on that truck doesn’t even look good. Why would you want to be so high off the road? It only hampers your ability to drive safely.

Porcupine Edition

The way this driver ‘“fits” all of the wooden planks in their tiny car is quite inventive. Too bad it’s completely unsafe and illegal, and unsurprisingly, the driver was arrested. Extending the width of your car like this is a huge hazard. No one can drive on either side of you and who knows what will happen when you turn?

reddit by u/kerosene-dreamer

Why someone would need to transfer that much lumber is anyone’s guess. Apparently, they couldn’t wait to transfer it safely. That’s also an expensive amount of wood. You would think the desire to transport that precious cargo safely would outweigh the desire for haste.

Beware The Snow Mobile

Here’s another instance of a driver getting into serious trouble for unsafely transporting cargo. It’s wild that they even managed to get the snowmobile on top of their car. That thing is heavy and about the same size as their vehicle. As the police stated, there are better ways to transfer a snowmobile. One option is waiting until it snows and driving the mobile itself.

reddit by u/AdLimp5039

We just can’t believe the audacity of this driver. There’s no mechanism on the top of the roof to hold the vehicle. It looks like they only tied it through the windows. Though the bottom might be secure the top can still wobble. Driving that car must have been terrifying.

Bigger Truck, Bigger Rocks

What’s worse than a truck with bricks and pebbles? A huge semi-truck with rocks. When these rocks fall out of the back of this truck, they’re also hitting your windshield as well as the road. Let’s hope this driver doesn’t come to any sudden stops and doesn’t have a long way to go. If this cargo only needed to travel a mile, it might be more forgiving.

reddit by u/yusufmkI

Carrying this kind of “unsecured load” is illegal in the US. But that doesn’t stop some people. There’s a chance the semi-truck might just have a sign warning people of the danger, something like “we aren’t responsible for broken windshields”.

Creative Parking

Everyone’s familiar with the frustration of trying to find an open spot in a busy parking lot. The worst scenario is when you enter behind another car, then the first spot you find already goes to someone else. Many people have gotten creative when it comes to parking. Sometimes you make a spot where there isn’t one, but this person took that a little too far.

reddit by u/Square_Breath_8268

It honestly looks like they thought the lane of traffic was a parking spot. They even backed into it. It’s hard to guess if this person is just a huge idiot or completely selfish. Regardless, their choice to park in a space where people are supposed to drive is quite dangerous. Someone’s getting a ticket.

This Driver’s A Little Nuts

Most of the nuts are missing from this tire. The two that are left aren’t even screwed opposite one another. It’s anyone’s guess as to what’s going to happen once this wheel starts turning. Hopefully, there aren’t any bumps on the road or something awful is going to happen. This car needs to be taken to the shop immediately.

reddit by u/las44444444

But how did these nuts just fall out? When you get a tire, all five are there and screwed on tight. It seems unlikely that they would simply slide off on their own. Maybe this photographer came upon a nasty revenge scheme in motion. This is the kind of sabotage you see on TV…

The Most Precious Plank

This is probably one of the silliest photos of the bunch. There’s no reason someone should be holding a wooden plank outside their window. People aren’t that strong or trustworthy. If the passenger accidentally spills coffee on themselves it’s game over, though there are many reasons why someone would accidentally drop something.

reddit by u/LordStark_01

But the most absurd part of this is that they could’ve easily fit that plank in their trunk! Even if it stuck out a little, it would still be much safer than resting it on the side mirror. It’s obstructing the driver’s view by blocking the entire mirror! They’re going to have to be very careful if they want to merge right!

Real Life Jenga

Most cars aren’t meant to have things stacked on top of them, especially convertibles. The roof of this car is half mesh! There’s no way this precariously stacked pile of pallets is safe. This driver knows it. They have their hand out trying to balance the pile. Not like that’ll make a huge difference when someone accidentally cuts them off.

reddit by u/DarthJayDub

The boards aren’t even secured. They just have one rope over the top. Though they might not fall to the side, the boards can still slide forward and backward. It’s crazy how many people skimp on the proper transport tools. It’s entirely his fault if the planks break on the way home.

When You Have To Catch Up On Your Favorite Show

Doing anything on your phone while driving is incredibly unsafe. Not only does it divert your attention, but it also requires at least one hand. But what this person is doing is next level. This isn’t the right way to use Google Maps, you need an unobstructed view of the road to drive safely.

reddit by u/Remarkable-Solid-271

But there’s a good chance this person isn’t on Google Maps at all. They could just as easily be doing something else: scrolling through Instagram, watching Netflix, or filming a TikTok. Hopefully, a policeman is close by because this person needs to have their license revoked. No one who’s that addicted to their phone should be allowed on the road.

Planet Truck

This truck has an interesting way of keeping other cars away. It’s like activating a shield. No one can drift into your lane without being knocked back by your rings of steel. But regardless of how funny this image is, it’s also completely ridiculous and unsafe. There isn’t even room for a car to come down the opposite lane!

reddit by u/kitsf

Amazingly, the person who sold the materials to this driver let them leave like that. There must be a better system in place for moving those. Maybe the buyer ran off as soon as they made their purchase. Or perhaps this truck driver randomly found the cord and took everything upon themselves. Regardless, cars aren’t meant to look like planets.

Are You Forgetting Something?

Going to the gas station is something every driver must do. If you don’t know how to refill your tank properly, maybe you shouldn’t be on the road. The fact this driver drove off with a pump in their tank is hilarious, but also very dangerous. They could’ve been leaking gasoline for miles, not to mention the fact that they also broke the gas station pump!

reddit by u/bothanspy7

However, this car is empty, meaning this person ripped out the gas station pump, drove off, and didn’t even notice what they’d done. You’d think the driver would feel a pull or a pop once the pump got disconnected. That kind of sensation would encourage most drivers to get out of their cars and check for damage, but not this guy!

Rush Hour Chaos

This scene looks like something out of The Walking Dead. But these cars aren’t abandoned and there’s no zombie apocalypse. Every driver made a conscious decision to block opposing traffic, and it’s unclear why. That left turn looks incredibly messy, not to mention illegal. This kind of traffic jam will take ages to resolve.

reddit by u/arandomperson7

What’s crazy is the number of cars that decided this was a good idea. It’s probably the bandwagon effect. One person made the dumb move and then everyone else thought “if they can do it, so can I”. But that kind of reasoning is flawed. One person doing something illegal doesn’t make the act any more legal. We wonder if they all got ticketed!

Special Delivery

This is a creative way to transport wooden planks. This time the driver used a person to secure the wood instead of cords. If the planks start sliding back, this passenger will have to use their inner thigh strength to keep them in place. Hopefully, this guy hasn’t been skipping out on the gym, though one thing he is skipping on is common sense.

reddit by u/Dr_Zol_Epstein_III

People will really put themselves at risk to save a few bucks. It’s not that hard to order proper transportation tools, there’s a whole business around it. The best part is imagining how this person is going to get out of the car. Are they going to slide out the back? Hopefully, there are no stray nails on these planks!

Taking Up Space

There’s no way this driver thought this parking job was legal, no one’s that stupid. As soon as they stepped out of the car, they must’ve noticed they were in the middle of the parking lot. This is still a problem even if you’re only going to be gone for a little while. Nothing excuses this kind of parking job besides your car breaking down.

reddit by u/TweedleBeetleBattle

There are even open parking spots in the picture! We know that people will park in odd places when the lot is totally full, but usually drivers make sure they’re out of the way first. You can’t just block people in. It’s going to be impossible to maneuver around that!

Parking With The Shopping Carts

This space is intended for parking shopping carts… not cars. As you can see, people who tried to return their shopping carts had to leave them outside the designated area. The car completely blocks the opening. It’s already hard enough to convince lazy customers to return their carts, this guy just made it worse.

reddit

You’d think having a driver’s license means you have a little bit of common sense. Looking at all these pictures makes you realize they might as well be handing them out for free. This kind of move would cause anyone to flunk a driving test. Maybe this driver flushed out everything they learned once their license was secured.

Park Between The Lines

Parking is one of the hardest skills to master when learning how to drive. Many complain that parallel parking is the worst. Reversing into a small space would stress out many experienced drivers. But the parking lot in the photo below is probably one of the easiest ones out there. The lines between the spots have space in them!

reddit by u/Ahomelessninja

These drivers still managed to park like absolute garbage. No one made an effort to back out and try again. There’s no shame in straightening out your parking job! There’s a whole spot that went to waste because of these cars. Hopefully, the parking lot isn’t full, otherwise these drivers would be getting an earful.

A Crash To Remember

No one wants to be involved in a hit-and-run. It’s scary that someone could do something so terrible and run away without taking responsibility. But this hit-and-run is going to haunt the perpetrator. Your license plate number provides all the information law enforcement needs. Instead of staying anonymous, this person left the only thing behind that could identify them.

reddit by u/InsignificantOcelot

Statistically, just about everyone will live through at least one car accident. Unfortunately, that’s just a part of being on the road. When they do happen, you have to pull over, check if the people in the other vehicle are okay, and exchange insurance information. Don’t be a coward.

Off The Rails

This crash is pretty bad. It takes a lot to get this far off the road and into a building. But remaining horizontal might’ve been a blessing in disguise. Going down the gap could’ve been more dangerous for the driver. Regardless, this crash is going to cost them a lot of money in damages.

reddit by u/switchery

This driver was an elderly person, which brings up the argument of when it’s okay to take away someone’s driver’s license. For many older people, there comes

a certain time when it’s no longer safe for them to be behind the wheel. But a discussion about taking away freedom is never easy.

Rush Hour At Its Worst

This picture would give anyone anxiety. Everyone is blocking everyone. There isn’t a clear solution. These drivers probably need someone on the road directing traffic to fix this mess. Clearly, no one was willing to give others the right of way. That’s what got them into this jam in the first place.

reddit by u/Cainmak

The only thing that could fix this is prevention. Once a traffic jam like this exists it’s hard to solve. Traffic lights are supposed to create order in these busy intersections. People were probably trying to drive through during a yellow light and then got stuck in the middle of the intersection. That or the lights stopped working altogether.

Snow Covered Windshield

The driver of this snow-covered car hit someone on their way out of the gas station. They claimed the other driver was impossible to see. You can imagine why. The windshield is completely covered in frost, the driver probably couldn’t even see traffic lights! This goes without saying, but if you can’t see out of your windshield, you shouldn’t be driving.

reddit by u/NotSoAverageStoner

There are mechanisms in a car that melt the frost or de-fog the car’s windows. But in the winter sometimes you need to wait a couple of minutes before it starts to work. Even if you’re in a rush, you shouldn’t be driving with no visibility. It’s best to take the extra few minutes and then drive when it’s safe.

Barriers Are Usually Up For A Reason

This driver drove right through construction barriers to cross a bridge on the highway. They didn’t make it very far. The studs ripped the undercarriage to shreds and probably punctured a tire or two. Now the driver’s going to have to wait for a crane to come to pull their car out of this bed of nails.

reddit by u/Baby_Steve_CU

Even if you got used to taking this bridge every day, you’d have to be a total idiot to completely ignore construction barriers. It’s also easy to see that there isn’t a road beyond them. This person must’ve thought the rules don’t apply to them. Imagine trying to explain this situation to your insurance provider.

When The U-Haul Is Out Of Your Budget

Moving is an expensive and time-consuming task. There are costs associated with packing and transferring all your belongings, as well as costs related to furnishing and designing your new place. It makes sense that people try to save where they can. But there’s a difference between being savvy and dangerously cutting corners.

reddit by u/aSsAuLt-wEaPoNs

This person crossed that line. Sure a U-Haul costs money, but there’s no way anyone can safely drive with a load like that. It looks like you can’t see out of either windshield. The pile also looks incredibly precarious. One wrong turn and the whole car is going to topple over. At least take the items one at a time!

Riding On The Roof

Many people have made the joke that if there isn’t room in their car, they can ride in the trunk or on the roof. But that’s usually not a reality… until now. This woman looks very relaxed sitting on top of the car, holding two bins in one hand. You’ve got to give her some credit, most people would be terrified and be holding on for dear life.

thechive

Situations like these make you wonder why they couldn’t have just taken two trips. They can’t be going that far if she agreed to ride on the roof. The few dollars you save in gas can’t be worth her safety. Let’s hope they’re driving very slowly because it looks like she has nothing keeping her in place.
