Fans Share Hilarious Marvel Memes
The Marvel cinematic multiverse is one of the most complex film dynasties in cinema history. Thanks to the massive amounts of titles, backstories, and plots, Marvel execs have a lot of source material to play with. All of this leads to some pretty epic adventures for Earth-616’s mightiest heroes. For the fans, it can also lead to some of the best memes on the Internet. Whether you’re a fan of Captain America and his greatest asset, Spider-Man’s silly slinging adventures, or the Eternals’ ability to hold their breath, there’s a Marvel meme out there with your name on it.
Take a look at the funniest Marvel memes the internet has to offer!
Spidey Just Got A Lot Stranger
There have been a ton of Spider-Man movies. With each different take on the series, we get a new Spider-Man to stare at. We also get a brand new cast of supporting characters to help flesh out the series! Seeing Spidey and his bestie try and save New York and not miss class is a lot of fun. The trouble is, we never really got to see this version grow up.
It’s a good thing everything in the Marvelverse is connected. In some universe or another, it would make sense that Spidey would become Dr. Strange! Sacrificing spider powers for the chance to control time? That’s a pretty easy trade to make!
Even Narcissists Can Be Selfless
If you ever got unimaginable power and abilities, wouldn’t you feel pretty good about yourself? Once you’re able to do almost anything, your ego has got to be a bit inflated. Even the most selfless of heroes probably can’t help but feel like they’re better than the mere mortals they protect. Even some of Earth’s mightiest warriors have a bit of an ego problem.
Just look at how Tony Stark was in the beginning years as Iron Man. But that doesn’t mean our protagonists can’t evolve! Part of playing the role of a hero is understanding that you may have to make the ultimate sacrifice one day. Unfortunately, that also means you won’t be able to enjoy those powers forever.
Talk About Turning A Cold Shoulder
Captain America is a pretty hot slice of man-muscle. He’s chiseled, has “classic handsome features”, manners, and is just an all-around good guy. Someone like him would have been scooped up in a heartbeat! Plus, a superhero? Who wouldn’t want to lock him down as soon as possible? Even if he wasn’t into marriage, surely he had a line of people wanting to explore all the parts of his supersuit, right?
Wrong. It wasn’t his fault though. Part of what makes Captain America so interesting is that he’s from a completely different time. This guy was literally frozen solid for nearly a hundred years. Any dates he had lined up back in the day were long since gone!
Do Computers Dream Of Acne?
By the time an audience is introduced to a group of heroes, they already know a bit about them. It’s hard to imagine these superpowered beings were ever kids. But of course, we were all young once. The thing is, we have no clue what they even looked like. Did they have friends? Family photos? Did they go to school?
Those yearbook photos are probably the cutest things ever! Even the AI heroes, like Jarvis, probably have a backstory. Tony Stark built him and all, but maybe he programmed some cute memories of computer puberty or something. Not all programs start out as the predecessor to the Vision. They have to work their way up from a calculator!
Thor Was Always The Fiercest of the Avengers
The pacing of each franchise in the greater Marvel movie universe is unique to each series. Iron Man is full of sarcasm. The Avengers are all about action. Thor…kind of went two ways. The first couple of Thor films are pretty dark and have a lot of grim moments. Fans liked them fine, but something newer and fresher was on the way. Some sort of shift happened and the Thor series went from fierce to fabulous!
While the plots still made sense, the directors seemed to change almost everything else about the series. Once the memes and jokes from the first two started flooding in, they embraced them for the third and fourth films! Not only did Thor start doing more comedy, but everything just got brighter, wittier, and a whole lot more fun.
They’re All The Same Nowadays
There have been so many movies in the Marvel movie-verse that decades have passed since the first one came out. Despite thirty-nine of them being in circulation, it never seems like our faves age. True, they’re superheroes and they don’t get older as mortals do. However, it’s almost comical how childish some of them feel upon rewatching.
A few of them are starting to remind us of some other great hero films. Remember Spy Kids and Shark Boy & Lava Girl? We wouldn’t be surprised if they were the next inductees into Marvel’s growing group of heroes. They basically look like these new heroes anyway, we’re sure they’d fit right in.
Marvel Pawn Stars Would Be So Cool
Some of the best parts of any hero flick have nothing to do with the heroes themselves. The heroes are fine and all, but sometimes the real stars are the villains. One of the biggest of the bads, and the one who was mentioned the most so far in the films, was Thanos. Whatever crawled under his rocky purple skin was enough to make him one to destroy half of the universe with a single snap.
He got away with it too! This hulking figure was terrifying when he was around. He was like a giant scary Barney. But without the purple hue, things suddenly change. Instead of being a fearsome giant, he looks like he’ll only give us a few bucks for the Infinity Gauntlet instead of its full worth.
Wolverine Doesn’t Have Much Foresight
There are hundreds upon thousands of mutants in the X-Men franchise. Almost two hundred of them have been revealed throughout the length of the series. Two of the most famous are Magneto and Wolverine. Much like their names, the former controls metal and magnets, and the latter fights like a wild animal. The interesting thing is, Wolverine’s mutant ability isn’t his adamantium claws. He’s a healer! The claws are just a fun bonus.
These two mutants square off against each other often. Almost every time it ends the same way. Magneto tries to do something rash. Wolverine jumps in. Magneto wins because metal is kind of his thing. Despite being able to heal quickly, Logan just can’t seem to fix his memory enough to know not to try the same thing over and over again.
It’s The Strangest Story Ever
Dr. Stephen Strange’s story lives up to his name. He was once one of the best surgeons in the world. Then his hands got all mangled. Thankfully, he learned the mystic arts, fixed his hands, and became an all-powerful sorcerer. He also ends up with the ability to control and manipulate time with one of the strongest green rocks in the multiverse.
Not a bad career change if you ask us. Of course, on his journey to fix his digits, he gets involved in one of the most complicated and dangerous schemes to ever affect his version of Earth. Was it worth the trade-off? At least he got to meet Tilda Swinton!
He Has A Soft Spot For Witches
Captain America is all about preserving life and protecting liberty. He also doesn’t like to punish people unless they really deserve it. When Wanda Maximoff goes off the deep end…the first or second time, he tries his best to protect her. After that whole debacle got settled, something must’ve changed within him.
By the time the Civil War between the Avengers happened, Cap was done coddling the new generation of heroes. When it came time to face off against Spidey, he was all out of compassionate love. He went from, “No don’t!” to THWUMP! WHACK! SMASH! Spidey got SMASHED just for touching Cap’s shield. We guess the tough love route is going to be his thing from now on.
Tony Wasn’t Talking About Himself
To say that Tony Stark was rich was an understatement. The dude went from being one of the premier weapons manufacturers in the world to one of the richest and glitziest heroes ever. It also helped that he was a genius that invented a completely new element to add to the periodic table. The guy was pretty full of himself and it was kind of earned. That is until it came time to reflect on his past.
Over the course of his appearance in the movies, Stark goes from conceited bachelor to selfless hero who only loves his family and friends. Of course, even though money was no issue, it helped to have a lot of it. When everyone was running out of time, he just spent enough cash to make more of it!
Goblins Can’t Read Very Well
The audiences might know a heroes identity, but that doesn’t mean the villains do. One of the most mysterious of the Avengers is Peter Parker. We mean, Spider-Man is the most secret of the heroes…to everyone that isn’t us. Everyone’s favorite neighborhood Spider-Man may be well-known in New York City, but his alter ego isn’t. That doesn’t mean it’s hard to figure out.
Peter Parker makes a living off of selling photographs of himself in tights. He even sells the photo under his actual name! That and he allows them to be published all over the city! If the Green Goblin really wanted to find him, all he had to do was read the fine print.
Disney Needs To Learn A Super Lesson
Disney movies are all about family, happy endings, and showcasing that you can be anyone you want to be. They’re also some of the least-diverse movies around. Aside from Princess and the Frog and Aladdin, how many princes, princesses, and major casts feature characters of color? Things have gotten better recently, but it took them a while.
Marvel movies on the other hand are painted with every color of the rainbow. That’s not a euphemism. The cast literally makes a giant rainbow spread out across the multiverse! Not only can people of all backgrounds find themselves in the films, any alien probably could as well!
Earth Is Always In Danger
There is no shortage of heroes in Marvel’s arsenal. Whenever there’s a threat to the planet, a giant wheel is spun and someone flies in to save the day. That also means there’s no shortage of villains and threats to keep those capes busy. In the world of comics, this makes total sense. You need a lot of villains to keep all those heroes occupied!
The only thing that doesn’t make sense is how they all interact. While there are plenty of crossover issues, the movies don’t do a great job of explaining how these heroes work together. Why don’t the villains team up to keep them all busy at the same time? Do they have a deal to attack the planet one at a time?
We Need More Eyes and Time
As Marvel films continue to flood the box office, fans have to focus on more and more titles each year. Eventually, the only movies that will be premiering are some sort of hero flick. This trend causes some films to float and others to sink to the bottom of the pile. Marvel Studios is doing a great job of making movies, but they can only market and boost so many of them.
Eternals had an amazing premise and story. However, with Spider-Man: No Way Home being a fan-favorite, Eternals were pushed to the edge of relevancy! Hawkeye’s own series barely kept its head, and people’s attention, above water. Maybe they need to slow down with these releases.
Freud Would’ve Had A Field Day
Even the strongest of heroes and villains have parent issues to deal with. If more of them saw a therapist, maybe there would be less destruction across the multiverse. One of the most dysfunctional families has to be Thor’s. Despite being the God of Thunder, this guy doesn’t have nearly as much power, and problems, as his dad.
Odin may have been one of the strongest dieties in Thor’s pantheon, but his parenting abilities were pretty sub-par. Thanks to his own negligence, two out of three of his kids went off the deep-end. One became a multiverse traveling trickster. The other became the God of Death! Someone needs to stage a family intervention yesterday.
Does It Count As Work?
How do so many heroes in the Marvel universe pay their bills? If you’re not Tony Stark, you probably don’t have much revenue coming in. Sure, Captain America probably does product placements. She-Hulk is an attorney. What about Spider-Man? This kid is still in high school! Well, he actually has one of the weirdest and most self-absorbed jobs of all.
To pay his non-existent bills, this kid just takes photos of himself all day! As long as he keeps the mask on, he can keep shooting his own pics. He’s basically manifesting cash into his bank account! Eventually, someone’s going to put two and two together, right?
Quicksilver Had The Quickest Appearance
Pietro and Wanda Maximoff made their Marvel movie debut in Avengers: Age of Ultron. These two were highly teased during the lead-up to this film. Everyone was excited to see Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver make their debuts! Plus, introducing them together meant twice as many opportunities for neat plots for future films. At least, that was the idea. Despite being the fastest man in the Marvel cinematic universe, Quicksilver’s run didn’t last long.
This anti-hero outran everything aside from bullets in the film! Instead of surviving to have his own franchise or foil to his sister, he got killed off as quickly as he was introduced. What a wasted opportunity for even more movies! Maybe it was to build up Wanda’s eventual emotional and mental collapse in the Multiverse of Madness.
Adulthood Isn’t Like The Comics
Growing up, millions of us wanted to become a superhero. Soaring through the sky, beating up bad guys, saving the world? All of that sounds great! It also made us think life wouldn’t be anywhere near as chaotic as it would eventually turn out to be. Plus, heroes always have happy endings for the most part! Life will be just like the comics, right? RIGHT?
Wrong. While there may be similarities, one of the only things that are like the comics are those tense and depressing moments when the hero is surrounded by doom and gloom. Even with all of the powers in the universe, we were never prepared for the trials of adulthood.
Is She Wrong? Absolutely Not.
The heroes in our favorite comics and graphic novels gained their powers in some wild ways. Some of them were born on alien planets. Others got pumped full of gamma rays. Those lucky few that didn’t have big labs, or travel to foreign planets, had to find a more local way to super-size their lives. One of them in particular just had to be at the right place at the right time. Getting bitten by a genetically engineered spider seems simple and somewhat painful.
It also requires the least amount of effort. If we could survive that, it’d be a great way to become a hero! Who wouldn’t want to make that trade? It may seem like a dumb dream, but if it worked out for Parker, why couldn’t it work out for us? Relationships can come later after we’ve saved the world a few times.
There’s A Slight Difference Here
Captain America is the true all-American superhero. He’s a tall, chiseled, respectable guy that stands for freedom and whatever his creators told him to do. He’s also an inspiration to millions of kids around the globe. With that kind of responsibility, it was a smart move to make some PSAs to keep them headed down the right paths in life. One of those is to tell people not to do drugs!
But that really only works when your fans don’t know your backstory. The whole reason Captain America is what he is because he agreed to be pumped full of drugs! The super serum was either going to kill him or make him into the idol he eventually became. Someone else is sure to volunteer for something like that after seeing the results.
They’re Just Trying To Make Ends Meets
One of the big differences between real criminals and comic book villains are the levels at which they operate. Most people in the real world don’t have superpowers, millions of dollars of funds, or extremely sophisticated labs at their disposal. Many of them also don’t have the degrees required to manage some of those things.
In Spider-Man’s version of Earth, none of that is an issue. An uncomfortably large amount of his greatest foes are well-educated and knowledgeable people who just have chips on their shoulders! Maybe more funding for the sciences and academics would have kept some of them off the streets and in the lab.
Rocket Raccoon Crossed A Line
A lot of fun things can happen when franchises meet. New character pairings happen, jokes form, and some odd rivalries can even develop. One of the best is the dichotomy between The Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain America’s bestie, The Winter Soldier. Buckie Barnes’s whole deal is that he has a superpowered arm that’s really cool. Rocket Raccoon, who lives up to his name, loves shiny things that go boom.
He also has a mouth on him that gets him into far more trouble than anyone else in his crew. Despite his joking about nearly everything, not everyone thinks his quips are funny. Even when he jokes about something Cap has a laugh at, it’s not okay. Only he’s allowed to make fun of Barnes for his arm and nobody else!
Is Being A Machinist A Thing?
Wanda Maximoff, AKA Scarlet Witch, has had a pretty rough journey. She’s lost her brother. She’s lost her kids. She’s lost just about everything and everyone she holds dear. We don’t blame her for nearly losing her mind and trying to destroy the multiverse to find some sanity. One of the few things she’s loved that’s stuck around for more than a single movie is The Vision.
This physical embodiment of JARVIS connected with Wanda on a deep and personal level. She wanted to start a family with them and find some semblance of a normal life. Of course, not even that was allowed, even in her wildest dreams. It wasn’t even allowed to do that on her own TV show!
This Is MJ’s Villain Origin Story
Spider-Man has only had two great loves in his run throughout the years. Gwen Stacy and Mary-Jane. No, not the plant. Spidey fell in love with his childhood friend and next-door neighbor. After Gwen died at the hands of the Green Goblin, Peter Park fell in love with this redhead. Of course, while she loved him back, she wasn’t the most loyal.
After discovering just who Parker really is, MJ decides she can’t handle it. Instead of finding a non-super partner, she runs into the arms of the future Green Goblin! What, heroes were too much so villains became your next pick? That’s a pretty extreme turnaround.
Easy Money Is Still Money
Even the smallest of roles in the Marvel cinematic universe is voiced by big stars. Marvel just has so much money at their disposal, that it can throw millions at people just to say three words over and over again. It’s not a secret, but in case you didn’t know, Groot’s voice actor is super famous. He was well-known before Guardians of the Galaxy as action star and hunk Vin Diesel!
This guy is no stranger to acting or Hollywood in general. With his charisma and stage presence, his role in any Marvel film was certainly going to be big, When it was announced he would only voice a talking tree, people were disappointed. However, Diesel was fine with it. The checks still cleared either way and he probably didn’t even need pants for his time in the studio.
It’s A Pretty Even Trade-Off
Superhero movies aren’t just about special effects, impossibly tight clothes, and great action scenes. The characters behind the mask have to be fleshed out and interesting for a film to truly be great. Watching our favorites develop and change throughout their series adds depth to a film that would otherwise blend into any other hero flick. Tony Stark went from sarcastic and goofy to a serious and caring person.
Thor learned to loosen up and not be so uptight about everything. What happened to Captain America? This guy started off depressingly serious and stayed that way! Maybe that’s what happens when you’re frozen solid for nearly a century.
We’re Not That Surprised About Thor
Funerals are generally very somber and formal events. People gather from all around the globe, to honor and pay their respects to their memory. They’re not supposed to be comfortable gatherings. However, when you’re attending the funeral of the world’s greatest superhero after half the universe is snapped away, you can get a bit laxer. At Iron Man’s final send-off, his friends and family gathered for a quiet and respectful moment of reflection.
Nobody showed up in uniform. Instead, everyone suited up and got into their Sunday best for the ceremony. The only one who didn’t get the message was god-turned-fratboy Thor. While he tried his best, this dude still showed up in Crocs to one of his best friends and colleagues sending off!
Detectives Make Great Heroes Too
Just because you don’t have superpowers doesn’t mean you’re not a hero. Even in the real world, not all heroes wear capes. This has been true since the dawn of time. One of the greatest heroes of literature didn’t jump out of the pages of a comic book. He was busy solving crimes and mysteries on the mean streets of 19th-century London. Sherlock Holmes was a man far ahead of his time.
He’s also one of the most famous literary characters ever. That’s probably why it’s no surprise that many Marvel heroes also doubled as Holmes impersonators! From Doctor Strange to Iron Man to even Superman, megastars all have taken a crack at losing the spandex and grabbing a magnifying glass. They’ve also all looked great while doing it!
Everything Reminds Her Of Him
Some couples don’t like to use each other’s names in daily conversations. Instead, many people opt to call their partner a nickname. Scarlet Witch tried this out when she and The Vision were together. When they weren’t busy saving the universe, the two were trying to build a life with one another. In those intimate moments, Vision had a cute name for his beloved: Wanda. Oh wait, that’s her actual name.
We understand that you’re mourning the loss of your digital husband, but come on Wanda. Someone calling you your name is pretty common. Mourning is one thing, but claiming only Vision called you by your literal name is another. Maybe she jumped between too many realities and forgot that little fact.
From Zero to Hero
We can all agree Captain America is all about protecting liberty and saving lives. It was his way of life even before he became a thick slice of pure muscle. But after he was unfrozen from his seventy-year-long nap in the iceberg, something about him changed. And we’re not only talking about his mental state.
For someone who doesn’t age he sure looks more “mature”. From a lean clean-cut gentleman who opens doors to ladies and doesn’t kiss until the third date; to an incredibly hot dude who goes to bars and makes his own beef jerky. But maybe this is what happens when you end up being frozen solid for nearly a hundred years.
The Thanos Way or The Highway
Let’s face it, as cool as it is to watch our favorite hero on the big screen. Superheroes would be nothing without supervillains. The best part about any Marvel movie is seeing them defeat the bad guy. It’s a hard pill to swallow but it’s the truth. And one of the biggest baddies in the whole Marvel cinematic universe is Thanos.
His plot of erasing half of the universe’s population was a hot topic of discussion for every movie fan. Many thought it was a ridiculous idea and proposed tons of alternatives not involving mass genocide. What people tend to forget is if he did it any other way he wouldn’t have been a villain in the first place.
Things Aren’t Always As They Seem
Some people watch superhero movies for the special effects, action-packed scenes, and fabulous costumes. But the real fans know that the only thing that matters in these movies is the characters behind the mask. They can’t simply be buff, and good-looking. They also need to be interesting and deep for a film to truly shine.
Captain America looks like a nice fella who wouldn’t hurt a fly. But in reality, he’s capable of breaking every bone in your body. Bucky on the other hand looks like a merciless killer (which he was for some time), but then turns out to be a pretty sweet guy. Black widow is an exception because not only does she look sweet and kind, but she can also kill you within seconds.
An Unlikely Friendship
It’s no secret Thor and Loki go together like oil and water. One is a deceptive trickster god who likes to spread chaos and confusion. While the other is a happy-go-lucky god of thunder who likes drinking and getting into fights. Despite them being opposites, they somehow managed to be good siblings to one another.
They start as enemies, but over time, they become closer. It’s not that their personalities change, but how they learned to respect and appreciate one another. We can clearly see this in Infinity War when Loki willingly sacrifices himself to save his brother. How sweet!
Remembering What’s Important
There have been a ton of Marvel movies. It all started in 1944 with the very first Captain America movie. Back then they didn’t have the budget and special effects they do now. But what they lacked in funds they compensated with deep and complex character development. With each movie, we got a better understanding of the universe and the heroes who live in it.
Some fans were so infatuated with everything going on that they decided to dedicate a decent portion of their time to memorizing everything there is to know about the MCU. These are the same types of people you’d see in forums arguing over how the MCU ruined Spiderman!
Everybody Contributes However They Can
Avengers Endgame and Infinity War were two of the highest-grossing superhero films. The fight over the infinity stones was intense and everybody was on the edge of their seats throughout the entire movie. It was crazy watching every Avenger try and come up with the best plan to defeat Thanos. Then their ideas were completely decimated by his strength and intellect.
But you know what never helped save the planet? Tony Stark’s sarcasm. In many ways, he’s much like Chandler Bing if he was also a genius, billionaire, playboy, and philanthropist. His sarcastic comments are great comic relief and take away some of the tense situations they were in like the world ending.
Wanna Know How I Got These Scars?
Black Panther was a great movie not only because of the special effects team but because of the African culture which inspired many of the movie’s elements. For example, Erik Killmonger’s scars represent every kill he ever made. These scars may look ridiculous on him, but they have a very interesting back story.
They were inspired by the Chambri tribe in Papua New Guinea. Who has a long and arduous ritual at the end of which they get scarred with what’s called the mark of the crocodile? You guessed it, this guy. People with these cuts are recognized as initiated men who’re strong enough to carry the burdens of adulthood. The process is very painful and is done without any anesthesia.
From Spider to Man
There are so many Spider-Man movies we’ve already lost count. With each new one, we also are welcomed by a brand new actor who plays the friendly neighborhood Spidey. Although the spider-verse is big, we all know that Peter Parker is a teenager. So we expect all movies to depict him as such.
It’s great how Marvel made their movies interconnected so that we could follow everything in the MCU in chronological order. But how great would it be if we had a glimpse of another universe? Like one where Parker is still a baby spider trying to get through life in the big city.
Action Packed Organ Donor Movie
There’s a reason why great power comes with great responsibility, if you had supernatural abilities wouldn’t you feel obliged to use them for good? Superhero movies have taught us the only way to help humanity is by kicking ass and taking names. But what if we told you there’s a different approach?
Just look at Wolverine, he can regenerate every part of his body, making him immortal. In the MCU it’s a great ability to have if you want to defeat strong villains. But in the real world, his ability could be used to save millions of sick people’s lives by donating his organs and regenerating them later. It does beg the question, would his donated organs regenerate inside other people?
Everything Was His Fault
Everything in the Marvelverse happens for a reason. Sometimes it’s so the plot can thicken and become more interesting. And sometimes it’s so the company can make another movie. If Star-Lord didn’t punch Thanos as they were about to take away the Infinity Gauntlet then the writers wouldn’t have had a reason to make End Game.
But this doesn’t mean we can’t stay mad at him for ruining the plans. Imagine, if only he waited a few more seconds he could’ve had the gauntlet and beat him up as much as he wanted to. We can totally understand why this kid would be pissed at Chris Prat for showing up at her local movie theater.
