Life From Other Worlds

‘The Midnight Zone’, the area of the ocean, at a depth deep enough that no light from the surface reaches the creatures here. And as the crew dropped into the midst of this landscape, as they shut off their lights, a whole world opened up before them. Bioluminescent creatures innumerable in number and type appeared before their eyes, flashing blue light and exhibiting amazing evolutionary traits, such as various plankton and squid, which avoid predators by letting off flashes of light or bioluminescent ink.

The ‘barrel-eye’ fish have fluid membranes above their eyes and clear heads that allow them to see above them. The ‘cock-eyed’ squid has two different types of eyes for looking above and below for food, and predators, and is the only one of its kind in the area.
