It was the dawn of the “big-box” chains like KMart, Target, Walmart. And Best Buy that really began the “Black Friday” craze. In the 1980s to 1990s, by situating themselves in between various regional or larger malls, they offered even easier access to all the necessities for consumers. This would in turn begin the true advertising of “Black Friday”.

These stores would use signs advertising blowout “Black Friday” discounts, coupled with ridiculously early opening hours, to drum up crazy levels of business during the holiday season.
