In 1973 Johnny Carson thought of a funny joke that accidentally caused the entire nation to go into panic mode. Carson kidded about a shortage of toilet paper, and about what would happen if the world would run out of it. Americans took his joke literally, and the next day everyone went out and got insane amounts of toilet paper. This is where it gets ironic, the joke caused an actual shortage in toilet paper and a pretty serious one that lasted for several weeks.
