People Who Didn’t Realize They Met Celebs
There is something so fascinating about celebrities’ lives. That’s why paparazzi make thousands off their photos, and why we all care so much about gossip. As much as the media likes to paint the portrait that celebrities lead lavish lives, it’s not always the case. They don’t always eat out at fancy places and attend extravagant events. Sometimes they do normal things just like the rest of us. That’s probably why these people didn’t realize when they’d met celebrities out in the wild! It even led to some pretty funny interactions, like some people thinking they were just hitting on a regular person and not an A-list star. Say hello to the crazy moments when these people had no idea who they were standing in front of!
Viggo Mortensen
What was your idea of fun in the early 2000s? If you were anything like the average person, you’d have a movie night with your closest friends and eat junk food. Nowadays we can search through multiple streaming services and find a movie without ever needing to leave the house. In the early 2000s, we had to go to Blockbuster and manually search for the night’s pick.
Obviously, working there was a lot of fun, and this previous employee had more fun than most. Seeing someone walk around trying to conceal their identity typically means they’re stealing. Much to this person’s delight and shock, it was just Viggo Mortensen wanting to pick up a couple of movies he was in.
Natalie Portman
Have you ever gone out of your way to meet celebrities? Your best bet for running into one is either in New York or LA. When waiting around at the airport there isn’t much to do. There was considerably less to do in 2004, which was why this person resorted to checking out fellow passengers waiting in line.
This person’s thought process is fairly normal, and we also would have felt bad for the girl. We wonder how it dawned on him that the girl was Natalie Portman, not a cancer patient. We’re sure it was refreshing to see a star waiting in line with all the regular people and that’s why this person was so confused.
Jackie Chan
When you hear the word “celebrity” what do you think? A lot of people think celebrities live in their own little world, and don’t care much for normal folk. At least that’s how it seems to be today. Some people’s fame has inflated their egos taller than the Burj Khalifa, and it can make their fanbase dwindle.
Other celebrities are full of kindness not just for their fans, but for all the people around them. Jackie Chan is known for being an amazing actor, person, and stuntman. We’re pleased to know it’s not just an act, it’s who he really is. We’ll think of this the next time we watch a movie starring Chan which will no doubt be amazing.
Angelina Jolie
Nowadays it’s becoming less and less popular to see celebrities out and about doing mundane things. This is partly because the Paparazzi capture them everywhere, and before they know it, wherever they are will be swarmed with fans. If you do happen to see a celebrity, you’d assume it’d be at a high-end shop, like Chanel.
We love Gap just as much as the next person, assuming that the next person isn’t the one and only Angelina Jolie. This person’s interaction taught us a few valuable lessons. One, even celebrities like a good deal. Two, if you’re not sure who someone is, check their card when they pay to confirm suspicions.
Michael Sheen
Are you someone who watches many different shows, or do you repeat the same few shows a couple of times a year? If you watch a show so many times, it can start to feel like you know the characters in real life.
That’s why when this person came across one of the actors in real life, they couldn’t quite piece together why they looked familiar. If you can’t remember where you know someone from, a polite greeting is always a good option. In this case, because the recognition was only one-sided, it might have come across as a little creepy by the one and only Michael Sheen.
Danny Glover
Have you ever bumped into a friend when you weren’t expecting it and had a hard time processing who it was? The same goes for running into celebrities. Unless you live in Hollywood, most people don’t expect to see famous people during their day-to-day lives.
We’re sure this person was especially not expecting to see the legendary Danny Glover while working their job at a gas station. Both this person and their mom were blind to what had happened until their cousin told them who it was. We’re sure they saw Glover again considering that their gas station was his favorite. Did you expect famous people to pump their own gas?
Michelle Kwan
If you’re not at least a little familiar with the world of figure skating, you sadly won’t know who Michelle Kwan is. Today she’s a United States Ambassador, but she’s also a 2-time Olympic medalist. It’s safe to say that Kwan can do it all, and she has a big fanbase in the skating world. This person was just working the show, so they might not have had much knowledge of the skating world.
We hope Kwan didn’t take offense to this person not fawning over her. Then again, maybe she appreciated the break from all the screaming fans. Would you have gone back up to Michelle after and introduced yourself properly if this happened to you?
Sean Bean
Do you like meeting new people when you’re out at the bar? Some people only want to stick with their friends and watch the game they came for. Others like the community feel of meeting new people and striking up fun conversations. Of course, when you’re drinking during these games you’re not as perceptive as you might be.
That’s likely the reason this person didn’t realize they were conversing with Sean Bean for the whole evening. It was sweet of Bean to buy this person a bottle of champagne. If the bartender hadn’t said the name of the guy, they never would have known…how crazy is that?
Ruth Bader Ginsburg
There are lots of things we miss about being kids, like how carefree you can feel. Other times, we’re thankful that we’ve grown older and developed a better understanding of the world. Kids don’t have a great understanding of what things mean, or when something is important.
It makes sense why this person just wanted to go home and play video games instead of being pictured with who they assumed was a random lady. Perhaps if this person had met RBG at a later point in life, they would have appreciated it more. At least they eventually learned how important that moment was. Stone Cold Steve Austin
Nobody is the same today as they were twenty years ago. As a young adult, it’s almost a rite of passage to make stupid decisions and go out clubbing all the time. In the 1990’s, raving was extremely popular, and people’s sole focus was on dancing and having fun. Other people’s status wasn’t something that often ran through partygoers’ heads.
We’re surprised this person was aware enough to even notice that there was a big group of muscular men around them. We’re sure at the time this piggyback ride was the most exciting thing to this person, and the status of the person carrying them around didn’t mean much, even if it was Stone Cold Steve Austin.
Eminem
What is your dad like? No matter how different all dads of the world may be, there is one thing they all have in common: they all strike up conversations with random people while traveling. It’s like a switch in their brain flips once they have children that makes them all so social.
In this case, this dad ended up living out the dream of many young people, which is meeting Eminem. Eminem took the rap world by storm years ago and is still popular to this day. We’re sure it was shocking for Eminem to have to explain his status to this random man. We wonder what this dad would think of his song if he gave them a listen.
Mike D
If there’s one thing about this world that will never change, it’s the fact that boy bands will always be popular. Today’s youth are hung up on BTS and Olivia Rodrigo, but those who were around in the 80s know that the Beastie Boys were all the rage. Sometimes fame can get to people’s heads and they’ll turn to drinking and drugs to cope.
Sadly, this happens with a lot of pop stars, which is likely why this person thought Mike D was a homeless meth addict. We wish we could have seen the shock and realization setting in on this person’s face once they figured out who it really was.
Snoop Dogg
What do you dread most in this world? For most of us, running mundane errands can ruin our whole mood. Walmart may be well-priced, but it’s always packed, and it’s rare to get in and out quickly. Of course, there are some things that would make it all worthwhile, like if we ran into a celebrity.
Sadly, most of us aren’t lucky enough to run into anyone cool while picking up our groceries. This person and their cousin can’t say the same because they not only ran into Snoop Dogg, but they had a small conversation with him. We wish more celebrities would go to Walmart, then we’d have a fighting chance of meeting one of them.
Isla Fisher
What’s your favorite quick-service restaurant? We were all loyal McDonald’s fans until Shake Shack came into the picture. Everything they do is simply better, and we don’t stand for anyone who gets in the way of us and our delicious burgers and fries. We would have been upset too if someone was blocking the ketchup.
At least this person was kind about asking for the ketchup. Can you imagine what would have happened if they were to have snapped at the ketchup blocker only to realize it was Isla Fisher? In this case, this person’s polite Canadian tendencies saved them from being massively embarrassed. Take this as your reminder to always be polite when someone is blocking your favorite condiment.
P!nk
There’s no group of people we love more in this world than the elderly. They’re full of positive energy and are always sweet to those around them. They also have the unique ability to strike up conversations and make friends with complete strangers. We’re sure this grandma loves it when she’s able to find someone who wants to engage in conversation with her and listens to what she has to say.
P!nk is an amazing singer, but she’s also known for having a huge heart towards not just fans, but everyone around her. The only thing that would have made this interaction better was if P!nk had invited this little old lady to her concert.
John Cleese
Do you like flying? Most people aren’t big fans, but if there’s any group of people who hates it the most, it’s children. Kids have a harder time adjusting to the small, cramped space, and the air pressure.
A lot of people wince when they see children on their flight. Anyone who goes out of their way to make a child feel at ease during a flight is an angel. We’ll add actor and comedian John Cleese to the list of angels. Both parties got something out of this interaction: this person got some entertainment during the flight, and Cleese got help with his puzzle. Do you think Cleese remembers this?
Chuck Norris
What are your thoughts on elevators? Personally, we’re not huge fans and would rather take the stairs unless absolutely necessary. Part of the issue with elevators is that you never know who you’re going to get stuck with, like someone who passes lots of gas. Thankfully for this dad, he got a pleasant surprise instead of a stinky one.
Chuck Norris does it all from acting to martial arts, and he’s popular among lots of age groups. Maybe this guy’s head was in the clouds on his business trip and that’s why it took him so long to recognize this legend. Did this story inspire you to take the elevator more often?
Lindsay Lohan
Do you have a favorite coffee shop? Some people pick their favorite shops based on the coffee itself. Others pick their favorite shop based on how cute the barista is. Customers flirting with their baristas is a tale as old as time. It makes sense why this person thought their customer was flirting back.
Lindsay Lohan was extremely popular in her prime, and we doubt she would have flirted with her barista given that every man in Hollywood was swooning over her. Do you think the way this person interacted with Lindsay changed after they realized who she was? We just hope Lindsay didn’t take offense to the abrupt stop in her barista flirting.
Stephen King
It’s not uncommon to mistake one person for another. Even our own parents confuse us for our siblings from time to time. It also makes sense why we common folk confuse one famous person for a different famous person. Stephen King and Dean Koontz are both famous authors who dabble in the same genre.
As such, it makes sense why people get confused every once in a while. Sometimes celebrities get upset when being compared to someone they’re believed to have a rivalry with. Thankfully, King was able to laugh this off. As for this person, we’re sure they’ll take better note of their favorite authors’ faces from now on.
Alice Cooper
What do you do when you want to relax with your significant other? Sometimes it’s nice to stay home and cook together. Other times, it’s nice to go out and grab a bite. You never know what’s going to happen when you go out to eat, maybe you’ll even run into someone famous!
An empty, or nearly empty restaurant is a little slice of heaven. It also meant that this person was able to spot Alice Cooper more easily than if the place was packed. Alice Cooper is known for his eccentric stage makeup, so it makes sense why this person had trouble placing him at first.
David Beckham
There are multiple hot spots to go to if you want to run into a celebrity. The largest one being southern California. The streets may be flooded with stars, but there are also a good amount of normal people who work normal jobs, like waitressing. We’re sure that at some point these waitresses get used to seeing famous people, and some may not even recognize who they’re serving.
A lot of stars dream of being treated normally for a day, so we’re sure this was very refreshing for soccer star David Beckham. The Amex Black card should have been the first clue she wasn’t dealing with any regular Joe, but she eventually learned the truth.
Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman
If you’ve ever worked in any customer service job you know just how tiring it can be. By the time the day is over, you just want to clean up the store, pack up, and go home. If a customer is staying behind too long you need to politely nudge them to leave. Unfortunately, some people don’t know how to take a hint.
This person must have been so exhausted if they didn’t recognize Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman walking around their store. It was an honest mistake, and we don’t blame this person for acting the way they did. At least they weren’t rude about it, they were just a little pushy! Hopefully, Mullally and Offerman understood where this person was coming from.
Uma Thurman
There are lots of fun things to do when you visit New York. Of course, the shopping and food are great, but one of the best parts of visiting is catching a play. Broadway is expensive, but thankfully Off-Broadway plays are just as good and only a fraction of the price.
The other cool thing about New York is that it’s crawling with celebrities, especially at events where other celebrities are performing. At this time, Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman were married, so it makes sense why she’d be attending her husband’s play. Now you know where to go if you want to spot celebrities in New York: plays!
Bill Gates
There are a few ways to tell if there is a famous person in your midst. Maybe you’ll recognize them, see large crowds of people, or heightened security. Tennis is a way for a lot of people to relax and take a breather, so we’re sure this guy didn’t appreciate all the ruckus of these security guards.
Bill Gates has done a lot of amazing things, but his face isn’t one that’s often plastered on magazines or put on TV. It makes sense why this guy didn’t immediately put two and two together. Do you think if he had recognized Bill right away he would have asked him to play a round of Tennis?
Pierce Brosnan
We’d like to say we’re rational and sane 100% of the time, but that’s just not the case. Anytime we get the least bit hangry we become completely different people. We get hangry doing day-to-day activities, so we can’t imagine how hangry this mom was after hours of skiing. Sadly, celebrities think they can get away with anything because of their status.
News flash, they need to wait in line for their food like everyone else! This mom might have been a little out of line by snapping, but her reasoning was completely justified. Nobody likes a cutter, and we hope Brosnan remembers this lesson for years to come.
Daniel Radcliffe
As adults, we have a better understanding of celebrities and how Hollywood works. Kids don’t really think much of famous people, in fact, they might not even notice they’re there. If there’s anything kids love in this world, it’s going on adventures, and meeting other kids they’re age. It makes sense why this person befriended other kids while hanging out at the zoo.
If this person had been told right away that they were famous children, maybe they would have acted differently. Not knowing gave them all the ability to enjoy a day of just being children. We wonder if the Harry Potter kids remember this interaction. We’re sure they were thankful to be treated normally for a day.
Scarlett Johansson
If you have kids yourself, or if you’ve spent even one afternoon with them, you know just how inquisitive they can be. They ask a million questions a minute, and sometimes that can be overwhelming. Taking kids to the zoo is a great way to expose them to new things and help them learn about animals.
However, if they can’t read yet, you’ll be stuck relaying every little piece of information to them. We’re sure this mom was happy to do that, but we also understand why she needed a break. Thankfully, Scarlett Johansson is a sweetheart and was more than happy to help this little boy and his mom out.
Jack Black
There are some celebrities so famous you’ll know them even if you haven’t watched them in a while, or if they’ve taken a step back from the spotlight. Jack Black is an amazing actor, and as a bonus, he’s hilarious and has a huge heart. Naturally, this makes him a fan favorite.
Even if you don’t see someone famous, seeing someone who bears a strong resemblance to a famous person can be just as cool. In this person’s case, she ended up being wrong, she actually did see Jack Black! We have to agree with her sibling, we’re extremely thankful she didn’t tell him he looks like a fatter version of himself.
Jamie Foxx
There’s no such thing as having a normal day in LA. You can run into a model picking up your coffee, a comedian while grabbing lunch, or an actor while at the convenience store. Some people might find this overwhelming, but a lot of people think it’s cool.
If you see someone overly dressed in the middle of the day, it’s safe to say they work in Hollywood. The thing is, it might take you a while to place who the person is. Sadly for this person, it took Jamie Foxx walking out for them to realize who he was, which is way too late to grab a picture.
Jerry Seinfeld
Most of us have worked, or will work a customer service job at one point in our lives. Some days it’s great and you leave work feeling happy and excited to come in the next day. On other days, you want nothing more than to close shop early and head home. For some reason, customers always try coming into shops after they’ve already started closing.
There’s nothing more satisfying than turning these customers away unless, of course, they’re famous. We’re sure this person felt bad turning Seinfeld away, but it had to be done. It just goes to show you that the rules apply to everyone, even those with hit TV shows!
