People Share Their Experiences Meeting Celebs
We all love indulging in movies, television shows, and basically any type of entertainment. We learn to love certain characters on screen, but we often forget that behind the persona is a real-life human being. Meeting celebrities can be either the best or worst thing someone can experience. Some famous people are patient and love their fans, while others prefer to be left alone. Before approaching any celebs, it’s probably best to do your research. You wouldn’t want to have an unpleasant experience meeting one of your idols.
Whether the interaction was negative or positive, we’re sure these people were surprised to have met these stars in the flesh.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt
It makes sense that Tom from 500 Days of Summer is a gentleman in real life. He has the type of face that screams “polite”. It’s wrong to assume celebrities are anything like their characters, but in this case, it makes perfect sense. However, Gordon-Levitt’s character in Inception was arguably a villain, so he’s pretty versatile. This person’s boyfriend probably didn’t expect an A-list celebrity to be so approachable.
It was nice for him to see that the fame didn’t change Gordon-Levitt’s attitude towards meeting his fans. After meeting him, this guy definitely went home and watched all the movies he’s been in. It’s fun to see the contrast between meeting a fictional character on screen and their real-life personality.
Bill Gates
Co-founder of Microsoft and billionaire Bill Gates shocked this person when they met him. He was just like any ordinary guy standing in line waiting his turn. You’d expect someone with so much money to be a little pompous and entitled. Bill Gates showed this person that he was humble and human, just like the rest of us. He doesn’t feel more important just because of his status.
Gates is a philanthropist and whose passion in life is helping others. It makes perfect sense that his generosity also translates into his interactions with others. Behind the curtain of this rich tech-mogul persona is a kind-hearted person.
Michael Phelps
Swimmer and Olympic medal-winning athlete Michael Phelps is one of the most recognizable Olympic athletes. Throughout his career he’s won 28 medals. Eight of them were all during the same Olympic games in 2008! His talents in the water are clear, but according to this person, his manners leave something to be desired.
This guy claims he witnessed Phelps mistreating employees at the casino and leave without tipping. If you’re a celebrity, it’s no secret that you have a little extra money in the bank. It’s a shame that Phelps wasn’t as generous as he could’ve been during that particular visit. We wonder if he visited that casino again.
Hillary Duff
You might know this celeb as Lizzie McGuire from the TV series of the same name. Her fame skyrocketed in the early 2000s when she starred in iconic films like Cadet Kelly and A Cinderella Story. Her bubbly personality on screen, however, didn’t seem to shine through in person. This user recounts an interaction they saw on a flight.
According to this story, her approach to fans isn’t what they expected. Duff is a star who’s adored by young girls, but she seemed to show no interest in talking to her fans. This little girl probably took down her Lizzie McGuire posters after this encounter. We hope it didn’t discourage her from approaching some of her other idols.
Tim Allen
Allen is an actor and comedian who started his career in the 70s. He would perform at comedy clubs and make TV appearances occasionally. But he’s most famous for playing Tim Taylor on Home Improvement, and Santa in the Santa Clause film series. He’s also known as the voice behind Buzz Lightyear in the Toy Story franchise.
You might assume that his roles in kid movies would make him less of a Grinch, but this person had an uncomfortable experience with him. They say he’s not the best neighbor, maybe he didn’t want people knowing where he lived? Or perhaps he just really hates pie?
Viggo Mortensen
This celebrity is known to all fantasy fans. He starred in the legendary Lord of The Rings trilogy as Aragorn, as well as films like Witness, Captain Fantastic, and Green Book. He’s a seriously talented actor, you should watch at least one of his films if you haven’t already. According to this former restaurant manager, Mortensen is also a great guy in person!
He’s big-hearted and cares about the service workers who provided him with a great dining experience. We’re sure that having this celebrity as a guest at the restaurant was always a pleasure. The waitstaff would look forward to seeing his friendly face.
Steve Austin
If you’re a wrestling fan, you know who this guy is. He’s a renowned former wrestler who got the nickname “Stone Cold Steve Austin”. Despite his tough name, he seems to be quite the gentle giant. His career as a wrestler didn’t change who he is inside. The fact that he was willing to take care of a wandering dog on the street is a testament to his big heart.
Perhaps we should change his nickname to something like “Softie Steve”. We’re picturing this muscular guy picking up a puppy from the street and bathing and playing with him. Adorable! It reminds you that someone could look tough on the outside but be a total softie on the inside.
Jaden Smith
Son of Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith, Jaden first made his way into Hollywood by acting alongside his famous father. The Pursuit of Happyness and After Earth are two examples. In 2010, he landed the role of Dre Parker in the remake of The Karate Kid. You may also remember him from his rap verse on Justin Bieber’s song Never say Never, which was featured in the film.
Jaden Smith is no longer a kid and is probably still learning how to deal with his fame. But this person’s interaction with him left a nasty taste in their mouth. They felt like Smith didn’t care for anyone but himself. We hope he’s grown out of that.
Mark Ruffalo
This versatile actor is a big name in Hollywood. You might recognize him as Marvel’s Hulk. He also played smaller roles in movies like Shutter Island and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, which were both critically acclaimed. He can go from playing a serious character to a sillier one. According to this user, his personality off-screen is nothing but friendly.
We’re sure the emails exchanged between these two were invaluable. This person must’ve really appreciated getting insight into the industry from someone who knows it so well. Breaking into Hollywood isn’t easy, it was probably a real treat to get to talk to one of the pros!
Keanu Reeves
Reeves is one of those actors whose personality off-camera will surprise you in a good way. His intense roles in movies like John Wick and The Matrix movies would make you think he’s a serious person. This person’s story about Reeves makes you want to meet him yourself! He’s described as being down-to-earth, maybe that’s why he has such a great reputation among his fans.
Celebrities who let fans take pictures with them are pretty special. We’re excited to see him in even more roles now, knowing he’s such a genuine person. Perhaps what makes him a successful actor is his ability to create a separation between his characters and personal life.
Natalie Portman
Natalie Portman started out acting as Mathilda Lando in Léon: The Professional. She’d go on to portray Padmé Amidala in Star Wars and Evey Hammond in V for Vendetta. One of her recent hit films was Black Swan directed by the legendary Darron Aronofsky. This person seems to think Portman is a bit stuck-up based on their experience with her.
The name they’re referring to is likely Natalie Hershlag. Portman changed her name when she was 13 for privacy reasons, as she was starring in a role that was a bit provocative. We think that her desire to stay anonymous in school might be related to that.
Julie Andrews
This English icon is beloved in Hollywood. She won us over in her roles in Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music. You might even remember her as a queen from The Princess Diaries. She’s known for playing upbeat and loveable characters. She’s also notorious for her beautiful singing voice. It’s no surprise that she was nice in person as well.
It was beyond nice of her to send her compliments to the chef. We can picture her big, friendly smile when she made this man’s day. He’s lucky to have had such a great experience meeting this icon. It probably made him want to watch Mary Poppins over and over again.
Cee-Lo Green

His talent as a musical artist landed him a job as a judge on The Voice, though he left the show after four seasons. Based on this interaction with a stranger, it seems like Green acts like an ordinary guy when in public.
He doesn’t make a scene when people stare at him might even be happy to talk to his fans, as long as they muster up the courage to approach him. He’s had some recent controversies on Twitter, but this person seemed happy to have met him.
Justin Bieber
We all remember him as the teenage heartthrob, but Justin Bieber is now a married man. Scooter Braun discovered through his YouTube videos, and the teen quickly rose to fame. In the early 2000s, Bieber was almost every teenage girl’s crush. His iconic hair and smile melted the hearts of young girls around the world. Apparently, not everyone finds him charming.
This helicopter pilot claims Bieber wasn’t a great passenger on his flight. He probably won’t be going to any of his concerts. If he has kids we’re sure he’ll keep them from spending any money on his music or shows. Maybe Bieber should’ve shown more gratitude toward the person flying him around.
John Stamos
We know and love him as uncle Jesse on Full House and according to this story, he’s just as nice in person! Being someone’s personal assistant can give you a good idea of someone’s personality. The tasks they give you and how they dictate them can tell you all you need to know. Stamos wasn’t the type of celebrity that demanded things from his assistant.
He was modest and behaved like another normal guy. We’re sure it was a breath of fresh air for this driver to have such a courteous person as a client. Instead of being slaved around, he could feel like an equal next to this big Hollywood star.
Adam Driver
Any Star Wars fan knows who this celebrity is, his portrayal of Kylo Ren in the franchise’s reboot is unforgettable. Driver appears in plenty of other films including BlacKkKlansman and the highly acclaimed Marriage Story. In photos, Driver looks very stern and serious, but according to this fan, he’s just a shy guy.
Even though actors may appear to have all the confidence in the world on screen, their personalities in real life can be the total opposite. Apparently, Driver is also a lot taller in person than you might expect. Seeing him on screen, you wouldn’t know that he’s over six feet tall!
Zooey Deschanel
Zooey Deschanel is a Hollywood actress born into a family who knows the biz. Both of her parents have jobs in the industry, so it’s no wonder she rose to stardom as an actress. She’s known for her lead roles on the TV show New Girl and the film 500 Days of Summer. She also joined her sister Emily on the series Bones for an episode where, ironically, the two played characters who disliked each other.
Despite having a bubbly personality on screen, this person seems to have a different opinion of Deschanel. He worked with her on the set of “New Girl” and found her to be unpleasant. We wonder what she did to make this person dislike her so much!
Flava Flav
William Jonathan Drayton Jr. AKA Flavor Flav is a rapper you might not have heard of. He was most famous in the 80s and 90s when he was a part of the rap group Public Enemy. The eccentric artist is notorious for wearing giant clocks as necklaces.
His level of celebrity is just enough to recognize that he’s famous even if you didn’t know him. Based on this account of him at the airport, he doesn’t seem to be the most approachable. He may have been having a bad day and lost his cool in public.
Robert Downey Jr.
This seasoned and experienced actor is one of Hollywood’s most respected celebrities. He’s most famous for starring in Iron Man. He’s featured in ten movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Tony Stark, a character we all know and love. Another one of his big roles was in Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes, where he puts on a convincing British accent.
Regardless of the roles he’s played in, Downey Jr. seems to stay grounded. This user shared a story of meeting the star at the beach. He was so down-to-Earth that he seemed to not be aware of his celebrity status. We hope the guys he met were able to keep their cool.
Keegan-Michael Key
You might recognize this comedian from his comedy sketch show Key & Peele. This hilarious actor and comedian is an expert at making people laugh. His appearances on shows like Whose Line is it Anyway? and Park and Recreation only highlight his skills as a comedian. He even landed a job that many comedians dream of when he performed at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner as Luther, President Obama’s anger translator.
Even though he’s had raging success, he’s still a humble guy. This man met Key backstage and the celeb seemed to appreciate the support he received from a fan. It seems like he knows that he has his fans to thank for his rise to fame.
Mark Cuban
This celebrity isn’t an actor or Hollywood star, but he’s definitely well known. He’s an entrepreneur that’s also a shark on Shark Tank. He also owns the basketball team the Dallas Mavericks, which led to an increase in the success of their games. Cuban is a man who grew up poor but managed to become a multi-billionaire through his determination. But having all that money didn’t make him a snob.
Based on this account, Cuban is a fun guy who likes to get to know people. He also isn’t camera shy, as he was willing to take photos with whoever wanted one. We’re positive this was a night everyone would remember!
Tiger Woods
Tiger woods, born Eldrick Tont Woods, is a professional golfer. Even those who don’t follow the sport will recognize his name. His career as a golfer started when he was only two after his father introduced him to the sport. Slowly but surely Woods made a name for himself. He managed to secure his title as one of the best golfers out there.
Unfortunately, this story doesn’t portray him in such a great light. Woods ignored a young boy’s request for an autograph, which would’ve taken him only a second. This boy probably stopped watching golf after this happened. Wood was his favorite athlete, but after this encounter he probably prefers a different sport.
Kevin James
Kevin James is best known for his role in the sitcom King of Queens, though he started his career doing stand-up comedy in the late 80s. But he’s also featured in comedies like Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Grown-Ups, and Don’t Mess with the Zohan. He often acts alongside his longtime friend and fellow actor Adam Sandler.
This person’s story makes James sound like a bit of a diva. Based on this account, he doesn’t like to be spoken to by waitstaff and tells his guards to keep people away. This is a celebrity that prefers not to be approached. If he’s out in public he wants to be left alone.
Guy Fieri

Who wouldn’t want to watch this rambunctious and outlandishly dressed man tour the country in search of delicious eats? Based on his style some might think he’s unpleasant to be around, but they’d be wrong!
Based on this story, Fieri is just as fun in real life as he is on TV! Maybe getting to cruise around and sample delicious food gives someone a likable personality. If this is what he’s like in real life we’d love to grab a bite with him.
Ashton Kutcher
That 70s Show alum Ashton Kutcher is an actor and entrepreneur. He’s been in romantic comedies like Just Married, A Lot Like Love, Killers, and plenty others. Johnny Depp
This talented A-List actor might be best known for his portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. He’s also starred in major hits like Edward Scissorhands and Sweeny Todd. He got a lot of press recently for his turbulent relationship with actress Amber Heard, and has been mostly out of the spotlight since. However, this story paints him in a positive and giving light.
That $100 bill that they got from Depp is probably sitting on their desk in a glass container. They probably show it to people whenever they tell this story. This experience probably made them a permanent fan of the actor.
Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey is a legendary pop artist with a number of smash hits. When the winter holidays roll around you’ll definitely hear her singing All I Want for Christmas is You. You may be familiar with some of her other hits like Fantasy and Always Be My Baby. There’s a reason Billboard named her Artist of the Decade in the 90s!
While she’s a talented singer with an angelic voice, rumor has it she’s a bit of a diva behind the scenes. This person’s testimony seems to imply that Carey’s not the easiest person to work with. Maybe the stress of showbiz was getting to her, or perhaps she’s simply not a team player.
Chevy Chase
This comedy actor and writer has been on the scene for a long time. He started out on the first season of Saturday Night Live back in 1975 and would go on to perform in hit films like Caddyshack, Three Amigos, and Hot Tub Time Machine. You might recognize him as Pierce Hawthorne from Community, though after one too many fights with the creator he had to leave the show.
Chase has a bit of a reputation for himself in the Hollywood scene. Though it’s hard to say whether these are rumors or not, this person’s experience seems to imply there’s more than a little truth to them.
Henry Winkler
Henry Winkler has had a long and illustrious career. If you grew up during the 70s or 80s you’ll remember him as Fonzie from Happy Days. He’s even a published author in children’s fiction!

While we know her more for her music, Lopez actually got her big break after starring in the biopic Selena. Her first studio album On the 6 was released two years later and was a huge success.
But was she really “Jenny from the Block”? It seems life in the spotlight might’ve gotten to her after a while. Based on this person’s experience, it sounds like J.Lo might’ve become a bit of a diva. It’s easy to let all that fame go to your head, though we hope this incident was an exception.
Shia LeBeouf
Shia LeBeouf’s been in show business for a while, getting his big break on the comedy sitcom Even Stevens back in the early 2000s. He’d go on to star in such films as Holes and Disturbia and was eventually cast as the lead in Michael Bay’s Transformers films. The actor hasn’t shied away from controversy in the past, but does that reflect on his interactions with others?
Based on this story it seems LeBeouf isn’t one to mingle with fans. We want to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he was simply in a high-stress situation, but most of us know not to swear in front of kids.
Sandra Bullock

Willem Dafoe
Willem Dafoe is a highly-acclaimed Hollywood actor, no matter what kind of movies you like you’re sure to have seen him somewhere. Superhero fans will recognize him as Norman Osborn aka the Green Goblin from the Sam Raimi Spider-Man films. If you’re a more artsy film fanatic you may know him from The Grand Budapest Hotel or The Lighthouse.
But it seems like Dafoe didn’t let his serious acting affect the way he treats others. Many people, celebrities and everyday folk alike, tend to act as though waitstaff aren’t important. The fact Dafoe was polite and made sure to tip well shows what kind of character he has.
Shaquille O’Neal
Even if you’ve never watched basketball, you’ve probably heard of Shaq. He’s a 7 foot 1 tower of a man with a big heart. His career as a basketball player ended in 2011 and has been enjoying his legendary status since. He’s famously known for being a huge player, but his size says nothing about his personality.
According to this fan, Shaq was perfectly comfortable acting like he was best buds with his brother. We can imagine that even his handshake is gentle despite his enormous hands. This would be a beyond awesome way to celebrate your birthday! Who wouldn’t want birthday wishes from one of the greatest Lakers?
Andy Dick
Andy Dick is a comedian, actor, and producer known for his work on Ben Stiller Show, and The Andy Dick Show. He has a reputation for being arrested and being vulgar at his shows. He has been removed from shows several times for inappropriate behavior. Considering his track record, this person’s experience should come as no surprise.
He seems to have no regard for the surrounding people and does what he pleases. He’s not the type of celebrity you can chat with over coffee if you saw him. You might like his sense of humor, but meeting him in person is a different story.
Harrison Ford
Famously known as Han Solo of Star Wars and Indiana Jones, actor Harrison Ford is one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood. He’s also known for his role in Blade Runner and Witness. The 79-year-old actor has a long list of films on his resume and is also a licensed pilot! This description of him at an ice cream shop perfectly describes how you’d expect him to be.

While some of those films were on the serious side, Williams was mostly known for his comedic chops and bubbly personality on the screen. He’s famous for being the voice of the Genie in Aladdin and won a few awards for his performance. His untimely passing left many of his fans devastated.

Kate Bosworth
Kate Bosworth is a model and actress that’s been in a few films like The Horse Whisperer and Blue Crush. She also works as a model and has been in several commercials for companies like Revlon and Calvin Klein. You can currently catch her playing KC in the Netflix miniseries The I-Land. But this person wasn’t a fan of meeting her in person.
This person claims she didn’t leave a tip for her server at a bar. We hope that this was just a bad day and that Bosworth doesn’t always act this way. It’s a shame when celebrities act entitled and don’t pay mind to other hard-working people.
Pink
You might know who Pink is from her hit songs Lady Marmalade, Get the Party Started, So What, and Give Me a Reason. The singer/songwriter was born Alecia Beth Moore but goes by “P!nk” as a stage name. She’s known for her pop-rock style and distinct style of singing. This story about her wanting to go to a party with strangers she just met seems too good to be true!
Pink is probably one of those celebrities that doesn’t let the fame get to her head. She’s still a human, just like everyone else, and treats the people she meets as equals. On top of being a nice person, she’s also known for her charity work and has donated to organizations like Save the Children.
Rachael Ray

She is a cook, author, and TV personality who’s known for the Food Network program 30 Minute Meals, and her self-titled cooking show Rachael Ray. When working on a set, celebrities have to take into consideration all the other people involved as well. It seems that Ray wasn’t working well with others during this encounter. Hopefully, this isn’t a recurring situation, no one wants to work with someone rude or demanding.
Drew Carey
Stand-up comedian and television personality, Drew Carey, started his career in 1985. He performed at comedy clubs, played a couple of minor roles in films. He went on to star in The Drew Carey Show in 1995. Many of us remember him hosting the improv comedy show Whose Line Is It Anyway?. This fan story portrays him as a stand-up guy, literally and figuratively.
The fact that he remembered to take a photo with this guy and even stayed to chat with him is really wholesome. Celebrities are busy people, and the ones that take time out of their day to talk to fans are special. We’re sure this fan cherishes that photo.
Michael Jordan
Michael Jordan is undoubtedly one of the best-known basketball legends. The famous NBA player has been titled “greatest basketball player of all time” and has won 6 championships. If you’re a big fan of sneakers you definitely recognize his name. He collaborated with Nike, and his Air Jordan sneakers are worn by many.
One of his side hobbies is golf, and this person claims Jordan didn’t tip after dining and drinking at the golf course’s clubhouse. We know it’s not a matter of not being able to afford it, so this account is a bit unsettling. We can imagine he has a lot on his mind, but we hope this isn’t a trend.
Nicolas Cage
Meeting a nice celebrity is always a nice breath of fresh air. This person met Nicolas Cage, the actor best known for his role in Leaving Las Vegas, as well as films like Adaptation, The Rock, City of Angels, and The Wicker Man. Most of the films he’s been in have been action movies, and he’s even pulled two of his teeth without anesthesia for a role as a veteran in the movie Birdy.

His songs are typically upbeat and fun to dance to, but this person’s experience was anything but a good time.
Service workers often get rude behavior from customers, but it stands out all the more when it comes from a celebrity. It’s pretty hard to forget a name and face that’s been all over the music charts. There’s no reason to take out a bad mood on a server.

He’s probably best known for his role as Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, which he later reprised in The Hobbit film series. He’s also been involved in public activism, going to Iraq in 2002 to protest the US’s plan for a military strike and getting involved in humanitarian work after Hurricane Katrina and the earthquake in Haiti. This outspoken actor doesn’t shy away from controversy.
He’s been in the news a few times over certain public comments, including one in defense of former Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez. Sometimes controversial individuals can be brash in real life, and it seems this may be the case with Penn. According to this user, he wasn’t a particularly fun person to have on set.
Weird Al
There’s no way you haven’t heard at least one of this brilliant artist’s song parodies. If you haven’t, you’ve got to go fix that right now. Some of his biggest hits are “Amish Paradise” and “White and Nerdy” among many many others. He’s been cranking out hits since the 80s and we’re grateful for every one of them. He’s also notorious for getting the artist’s permission before parodying their songs.
Based on this encounter, it sounds like Weird Al is friendly when it comes to his fans. It would be surprising if someone with his quirky persona was standoffish. We’re more than glad to hear that he’s just as cool in real life!
Steve Jobs
We don’t think it’s a stretch to say that Steve Jobs brought one of the most influential pieces of technology to the world. Without him, it’s unclear whether Apple would be the major player that it is today. His untimely passing in 2011 shocked the world, but he left a pretty big legacy behind. Unfortunately, some people have come forward with their unpleasant work encounters.
People have been discussing Steve Jobs’ work ethic and real personality for a while, and it seems this user has another story to add to the “bad” pile. Sometimes the big-wigs in the tech industry aren’t the nicest people to work with.

We would’ve been absolutely devastated if he wasn’t a nice person in real life, thankfully it seems his onscreen persona matched his real-life personality.
This person shared their experience sitting next to the actor on a plane. Plane trips can be stressful for some children, we’re glad Mr. Rogers was able to make this kid’s experience a little better. Though he passed in 2003, this genuine soul left his mark on the world forever.
Julia Roberts
Julia Roberts has starred in a number of highly successful films, the first of which was the classic Pretty Woman. You might also recognize her from My Best Friend’s Wedding or Notting Hill. She’s definitely a go-to when it comes to romantic comedies. But unfortunately, this smiling starlet has a bit of a reputation behind the scenes.
This particular encounter describes Roberts as being difficult to work with. This could’ve been a one-off scenario, but based on other professional accounts it seems this might be a pattern. One of her notorious feuds was with director Steven Speilberg on the set of Hook. She’s still working in the movie industry, we hope she’s cleaned up her act.
Danny DeVito
This actor proves that talent can come in small packages! Danny DeVito’s film career took off in 1975 after his role in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, he’d go on to appear in movies like Terms of Endearment and L.A. Confidential. He’s still working today as one of the main cast members in the comedy series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Starring in such a bizarre role in his 70s is quite a feat, we’d be disappointed if DeVito wasn’t a fun guy in real life. According to this user, he’s the kind of person who appreciates his fans. Younger fans can be extremely enthusiastic, and it seems DeVito handled the encounter the right way.
Jack Black
There’s no shortage of hilarious movies starring Jack Black. His breakthrough role was in High Fidelity, and he’d go on to star in films like School of Rock, Tropic Thunder, and Kung Fu Panda. This funny guy is no stranger to the music industry either. His band Tenacious D had its own movie, The Pick of Destiny, which featured Black and his bandmate Kyle Gass.
Based on his film characters, you’d expect Black to be a fun and friendly guy. If we’re going off this user’s story, you’d be right! Jack Black has a reputation of interacting with his fans and making them feel good while meeting him.
Aaron Paul
You’ll recognize this incredible actor from his role as Jesse Pinkman in the highly acclaimed series Breaking Bad. He took home the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series three times. He’d go on to reprise his role in the Netflix film El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie. More recently he voiced Todd Chavez on the Netflix series Bojack Horseman.
But what’s Paul like in real life? This fan recounts a time he ran into the actor at an airport, and the experience was beyond great! Sounds like he’s a genuine guy who isn’t shy when it comes to meeting his fans in public spaces.
Scottie Pippen
This athlete is known for being one of the greatest basketball players of all time. Though he played for a number of different teams, most will remember him for his time with the Chicago Bulls alongside fellow legend Michael Jordan. But despite being great on the court, many consider him to be a bit of a cheapskate in real life.
Pippen has a bit of a reputation for not tipping. In fact, it’s so well known that he’s earned himself the nickname “No Tippin’ Pippen”. He might be a great guy otherwise, but we bet you’d prefer not to wait on his table. Tip your server, folks!
Steven Spielberg
This director is responsible for some of the greatest films of all time, including Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Jurassic Park, and the Indian Jones franchise among many others. He’s won three Academy Awards, two for Best Director and one for Best Picture, among several nominations. His movies often have a lot of heart, does that translate to his real life?
This person had a brief and pleasant encounter with the legendary director, and we’re guessing it totally made their day. It’s always nice to get a photo with someone you look up to, even better if you get to exchange a few words with them!
Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift is one of those artists whose known for having a great relationship with her fans. The singer started out in the country music scene before transitioning to pop, some of her early hits were “Teardrops on my Guitar”, “Love Story”, and “You Belong with Me”. She’s won countless awards and has solidified her place in music history.
Whether it’s in-person or online, Swift loves to talk to her fans. They love her and she loves them right back! This encounter is no exception, she probably felt even more at home while hanging out in her hometown. Though she’s achieved crazy levels of fame, she’s still a country gal.
Jack Nicholson
This Academy Award winning actor may have retired, but he’s left an incredible legacy behind him. He’s best known for his roles in films like One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (which won him Best Actor), Chinatown, and The Shining. His characters tend to be loner-types with an air of rebelliousness. Based on this account, Nicholson might’ve had that persona in grade school!
It’s always interesting to hear what celebs were like before they were famous, and it sounds like Nicholson was a bright and bold student. We’d feel pretty cool if our grandfather had a brush with a legendary actor! We bet all teachers wonder which of their students will rise to stardom.
Christina Aguilera
You don’t need to know her name, you probably already recognize this singer by her voice! Christina Aguilera’s known for her incredible range as well as hits like “Genie in a Bottle”, “Beautiful”, and “Dirty”. She’s also dabbled in film, you might recognize her from the so-bad-it’s-good film Burlesque, starring Aguilera and Cher. But this pop princess might be taking the “diva” role too far sometimes.
While it’s not uncommon for celebrities to travel with a group, they’re not exempt from paying for things like everyone else. Some celebs are given free merchandise for endorsements, but we don’t think that applies when it comes to visiting a popular amusement park.
Lea Michele
This actress started her career on Broadway, appearing in productions like Les Misérables, Fiddler on the Roof, and Spring Awakening. If you’re not a fan of live theater, you probably know her as Rachel Berry on the hit TV series Glee. Michele plays a self-centered high school student with dreams of making it big on Broadway. The character might’ve been a tad too similar to her onset personality.
In recent years a lot of dirt has come out regarding the actress’s behavior behind the scenes of Glee. Rumor has it that this behavior started back in her Broadway days. We just hope that Michele has learned from her past mistakes and stopped the shoe throwing!
Hugh Laurie
You’ll recognize this actor from the medical drama House, a role that earned him two Golden Globe Awards. Early in his career, he collaborated with fellow British actor Stephen Fry in a comedy act called Fry and Laurie. The man’s been in the biz for a few decades, you’d think all that fame would go to his head.
But that doesn’t seem to be the case! Being personable is a skill that not many have, but Laurie possesses it in abundance. Based on this account, he’s the kind of guy who never forgets a name or face. Quite the opposite of his on-screen persona as Dr. House! Just goes to show what a talented actor he is.
Scarlett Johansson
We all know and love her for her portrayal of Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but this starlet’s been acting for nearly three decades! She got her big break with the film Lost in Translation and would go on to perform in films like Her and Marriage story. But what’s this gorgeous and talented actress like in real life?
It seems she’s not too proud to have a genuine interaction with a fan. A non-stressful environment is probably the best situation to meet a celebrity in, Johannson clearly liked the reference to her earlier work. Just goes to show that celebs can be friendly if you meet them at the right time and don’t push their boundaries.
James Corden
This English actor and comedian is best known for hosting The Late Late Show with James Corden. If you’re from the UK you might recognize him from the popular series Gavin & Stacey. Though many find him funny and entertaining, he’s got a bit of a polarizing personality. Plenty of people abroad and in his home country find him a bit irritating, and it might not be for nothing.
This barista shared a story that any service worker would dread. Having a customer flip out isn’t unheard of, but it’s pretty remarkable when it’s a celebrity. We get that some people are irritable before having their morning cup of joe, but throwing drinks is never okay.
Elton John
Sir Elton John isn’t just a beast at the piano, he also knows how to captivate an audience with his flashy and flamboyant style. The English icon has released 31 albums since 1969. He’s also been involved in philanthropic efforts with AIDs awareness, founding the Elton John AIDs Foundation shortly after the death of Ryan White and fellow musician Freddie Mercury.
Based on this encounter it seems like John is a pleasant guy to work with, he seems to have a great memory as well! Imagine remembering a face you only saw a year ago. maybe those glasses give him some kind of special seeing powers. Kidding aside, we’re glad to hear he’s a class act.
Jared Leto
This actor is certainly no stranger to controversy, though that’s far from why he’s been in the spotlight since 1995. Jared Leto has featured in a number of highly-acclaimed films like American Psycho, Requiem for a Dream, and Dallas Buyers Club (which won him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor). But it’s his strange method acting that seems to put people off.
His behavior in this person’s story might’ve been just that…or he could’ve been straight-up rude. Customer service workers usually get the short end of the stick when dealing with the public, we hope this was just a one-off unpleasant encounter. Though if those Hollywood rumors are anything to go off of, it might not have been.
Will Smith
This actor/rapper’s career kicked off with The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and he’s been an absolute powerhouse since. He’s starred in several hit films including Independence Day, Men in Black, and Ali. He’s done everything from comedy to dramatic roles, proving he has range as well as talent. Recently he won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in King Richard, but not after a heated and physical confrontation with Chris Rock.
Based on this person’s story, it seems Smith is generally a kind-hearted person. Some famous people think they’re too good to thank the people who work for them, but not this guy. We hope to see more of this Will Smith in the future.
William Shatner
This Canadian actor is best known for his portrayal of Captain Kick in the Star Trek franchise. From 1996 to 1969 he was the face of the USS Enterprise Captain, he also provided the voice for the character in the show’s animated series. Willaim Shatner has a bit of a reputation for being difficult to work with, some of his former coworkers cut off ties with him!
Knowing Shatner’s history, it’s not difficult to believe this story. Some people just don’t know how to interact with others, and it seems like he’s just one of them. He might be great on screen, but doing business with him doesn’t sound like a great experience.
Paul McCartney
If you don’t know who Paul McCartney is then please go to YouTube and educate yourself, and stop making us feel old! This singer is often named as everyone’s favorite of the four Beatles and was considered the frontman of the wildly famous group. McCartney was able to continue a successful career after the band broke up and has been involved with quite a bit of animal rights activism.
It seems the singer has a good sense of humor, too! You can imagine celebrities get this sort of response from fans all the time, but who would’ve thought about responding that way? We guess brilliant songwriting skills come with a sharp wit.
Nick Offerman
This brilliant actor brought our favorite character from Pawnee to life. If you’re not familiar with Ron Swanson or Parks and Recreation, you might recognize him from the TV series Fargo (though you really should give Parks and Rec a watch). Ron Swanson is known for his deep voice and deadpan personality, Nick Offerman used that to his advantage in this encounter.
Sometimes celebrities aren’t in the mood to take a photo, and that’s okay! They’re people who are trying to get on with their lives. We think Offerman did a great job of turning the offer down in a polite yet funny way. Honestly, that exchange is better than an ordinary photo!
Alice Cooper
This singer’s illustrious career went on for decades, and it’s easy to understand why. Alice Cooper, known as “The Godfather of Shock Rock”, had a stage presence unlike any other. From crazy props like fake blood and electric chairs to his distinct raspy voice, he’s not a guy you forget easily. He seems to have stayed humble despite his fame.
This isn’t the first story we’ve heard from a fan of Cooper’s. A lot of celebrities can get away with giving a little less attention to a conversation with a fan, but it seems like this glam rocker really wanted to listen to this user’s uncle. He’s a great guy on and off stage!
BTS
Boy bands come and go, but BTS will always be #1. Not only are they one of the most successful South Korean groups of all time, but they’re apparently super duper kind and humble. The love that Western audiences have shown groups like BTS is pretty sweet. In return, many artists seem genuinely touched by people’s adoration of them and their art. When BTS was still working on breaking into the American mainstream they were still acting like huge celebrities (with even bigger hearts)!
Taking the time to share your appreciation to fans is one thing, it’s a whole other thing when you’re doing it in a language you aren’t fluent in! Their patience and care for their fans are only rivaled by their incredible talent. Even though they’ve broken up (hopefully temporarily) we’re still hoping for a reunion tour that’ll bring them back to the States soon!
Gene Simmons
The lifestyles of the rich and famous are often weirder than most can comprehend. The lifestyles of the internationally famous (and infamous) rockstars are something else entirely. KISS is no stranger to controversy. From their elaborate makeup to eardrum-shattering rock hits, the members of one of the world’s most well-known rock bands aren’t strangers to controversial opinions and headlines. However, Gene Simmons in particular has his own special headlines to worry about.
Multiple fans say that the rock legend is actually a bit handsier (and inappropriate) with fans. It doesn’t matter if it’s during a show or in a hotel, Simmons has often been reported to be a bit too familiar with younger fans and handsy with just about anyone he can get close to.
Russell Crowe
When you’re surrounded by yes-people, paparazzi, and just about anyone with a camera, it can be tough to find some peace and quiet. It doesn’t matter if you’re a huge star or not, everyone deserves some time for themselves. Unfortunately, when you’re an internationally recognized movie star that can be tricky. Thankfully, some celebrities have fans that know when to take a hint. Plus, most people tend to forget that many movie stars are just like us.
When Russell Crowe was spotted at a local bar, a fan decided to be a decent human being and give him some space. Sometimes those moments are more meaningful than a quick handshake at a meet and greet. Instead of fawning over the star they quietly asked for a cigarette and went about their way!
Lou Ferrigno
It’s really easy to be starstruck by people when you only know them from television or movies. It’s even easier to build up the narrative in our head that people are either exactly like their characters or even nicer in real life. Of course, that’s probably why they say you should never meet your idols. A lot of them just turn out to be terrible. After being spotted at a local eatery, an employee went to serve the original Hulk, Lou Ferrigno.
Based on this account, the star had a complete breakdown and DEMANDED a new server before anything could be done. Why? While the actor didn’t give a reason, he apparently has a history of not being very kind to fans (and people in general) with a different skin color than his own.
Christopher Lloyd
Everyone relax. Put down the pitchforks and get out of the Delorean. This is a good story. Actor, legend, and all-around amazing guy Christopher Lloyd is a cinematic treasure. Not only is he the best time traveler around, but he’s also Uncle Fester. On top of that, he’s genuinely a kind guy! Even when he’s busy and trying to get to work, he has no trouble stopping to chat with a fan.
Once, at Universal Studios, a young fan saw Lloyd hoofin’ it to a set. Even though he was in a rush, the fan ran up and asked him a silly question. Lloyd took it in stride, took a breath, and chatted with the kiddo before heading off to make more movie magic!
Wayne Gretzky
If you’re not in the know, Wayne Gretzky is one of the best ice hockey players to ever skate on this planet. He’s destroyed records, was named an NHL MVP nine times, and has four Stanley Cup victories under his belt. This guy is a BEAST on the ice. Apparently, that beastly attitude doesn’t stay at the rink. A fan recounted the time they spotted Gretzky catching a bite after a huge game.
This user says they waited a bit to not crowd him, the young fan went up and asked the athlete to sign a ticket to the game they just watched him in. Instead of politely saying no he got the entire family thrown out of the restaurant! That seems a bit excessive…
Robin Williams
Some actors transcend fame and become as close to legendary as possible. Not many get that honor, and one of the few universally agreed upon is Robin Williams. The Mrs. Doubtfire, Aladdin, Good Morning Vietnam, and countless others, star always had a soft spot for fans. He always LOVED to spread joy whenever he could.
Even when he wasn’t at an event, Williams found ways to make people feel special and seen. He even once arrived at a store just to autograph a bunch of DVDs before they had even been purchased! On top of that, given that he started as a standup comedian, Williams proceeded to just hang out and crack some jokes with the store’s staff.
Drake
Fame affects people in different ways. While many artists claim that they’re down-to-earth and will never let their egos outshine their talent, some people decide just to let the dice roll and see what happens. Even though he’s one of the greatest singers of all time, Drake didn’t always know when to keep a cool head. He was still VERY green behind the ears during his ascent to fame.
This user recounts a time when the singer’s mom had to act as a counselor of sorts when he got upset. After he yelled at someone during an awards show, his mom intervened and had to talk the singer down from his rage-fueled tantrum! Does that mean his mom was on the payroll?
Tim Gunn
Don’t jump the trigger on this one, but one day you’re in and the next day you’re out. Tim Gunn is a national treasure that most of us know from Project Runway. The fashion celeb knows a thing or two about walking fast and delivering a fierce look. However, he usually doesn’t have to worry about people just hanging out in his path. While an unsuspecting fan was just chilling on the steps one day, Gunn almost toppled over them!
He was running to an appointment and the other person happened to be resting on top of the staircase. Instead of going about his way, Gunn stopped rushing and made sure the other person was okay. Not only that, despite it not being his fault, he even apologized for what happened!
Sir Rod Stewart
Despite being a knight (yep), a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member, and just about one of the most well-known musicians from the UK, Sir Rod Stewart also has some bad press surrounding him. The accomplished artist isn’t always the nicest when off stage. Like some stars, Stewart seems to think that wherever they go they’re entitled to service because they’re…themselves? We’re not sure why, but celebs don’t like being told no.
According to this story, when Stewart arrived at a restaurant without a reservation, he was politely denied a table. Instead of accepting the news and moving on, he began to berate the host! Not only did he lob insults about not being seated, but the rock legend also started throwing out personal insults about the host’s appearance for no apparent reason.
Hugh Jackman
While Hugh Jackman may be most recognizable for playing the superhero Wolverine, he’s well-known as an amazing actor and singer both in films and in live stage performances. He’s also known for being extremely kind and gracious when meeting his fans. Whether it’s after a show, or just on the street, there is no shortage of stories from fans about their positive experiences with Jackman.
He certainly gave off a very good impression to this user who got to take part in a show that Jackman was singing in! Sounds like a dream come true for this star-struck fan. We wish we could share a stage with the legendary actor, too!
John Mayer
Some celebrity encounters come during the course of one’s work, and this can give you an interesting insight into a star’s life. This was the case for a this user and former limo driver who claimed to have driven American singer and songwriter John Mayer and his friends around. Unfortunately, he seems to have come away with a rather unfavorable impression of the Grammy Award-winning singer.
They reported a rather unpleasant experience compared with other celebrities they spent time driving for. We can certainly understand how being stuck in a car with an unpleasant person, celebrity or not, would be pretty unbearable.
Cate Blanchett
Australian actress Cate Blanchett’s long and storied career includes major roles in Lord of the Rings, and the Indiana Jones franchise, among many others. She’s won two Oscars as well as several other awards. She also gives off the vibe of being a very classy, easygoing lady, and one user’s account of a meeting with her in an airport lends seems to confirm that
They may not have even known who she was at the time, but Blanchett clearly left an impression on the then very young user, as the memory remains with them many years later. Have you ever met a celebrity as a child?
Tommy Lee Jones
Tommy Lee Jones has had a very successful career as an actor and director; he’s won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and an Emmy, among many others. While his career stretches back to the 1960s, he’s probably best known for his role in the Men in Black franchise, as well as other parts playing dry, tough guy characters.
But even the calmest and most collected people can lose their cool, and Jones doesn’t exactly have a reputation for being either of those things. We can all relate to being somewhat frustrated during the check-in process at an airport, and celebrities are no exception, but that’s no excuse to take it out on the poor airport staff!
Alan Alda
Alan Alda’s long acting career began all the way back in the 1950s, though a six-month stint in the US Army during the Korean War put that on hold for a bit. That experience did come in handy, as he was later cast as Hawkeye Pierce in the mega-hit television show M*A*S*H, which was set in Korea during the war. He was the only series regular to appear in all 256 episodes.
While M*A*S*H is no longer a household name, it is a classic and enjoys quite a number of fans. Though, as one commenter readily admits, most of those are not all that young. So it’s probably no surprise that Alda made a bit of a joke about that during their meeting, helping to relax the very nervous fan.
Neil Degrasse Tyson
Neil Degrasse Tyson can be a rather polarizing figure online. Many fans enjoy the scientific knowledge he loves to share as well as his commentary on pop culture. However, there are many others who find themselves annoyed that he seems to take pleasure in nitpicking fiction that never tried to claim any sort of scientific accuracy.
According to one user, meeting Tyson in person was a disappointment and they were not at all impressed by his public demeanor at a dinner party. It’s never pleasant to feel like you’re being talked down to, especially by someone you admire! How would you feel after an encounter like this?
Jason Momoa
Jason Momoa has attained legendary status among geeks due to his major roles in science fiction and fantasy productions like Game of Thrones, Aquaman, and Justice League. The Hawaii native also enjoys a reputation as someone who just loves meeting his fans, and there are many funny interactions you can find online where he’ll mess around with people meeting him for an autograph and a photo. He really looks like he’s just having fun.
One person can personally attest to him being a loveable guy and shared their wonderful time meeting him. With the staying power of the Aquaman franchise, we can imagine there’ll be more opportunities to experience this for themselves before too long.
Floyd Mayweather
Floyd Mayweather is, simply put, a boxing legend. His extremely successful career, which began in 1996, saw him cross paths with many other boxing greats. He retired undefeated with fifty wins. He’s often referred to as the best defensive boxer of all time. While he’s no longer fighting professionally full-time, the now 45-year-old Mayweather does occasionally take part in exhibition boxing matches.
He’s had his share of controversies and spent 90 days in jail in 2011 following a domestic battery conviction. And, according to this online account, Mayweather wasn’t a particularly pleasant guest at the luxury resort he visited.
Jeff Goldblum
American actor and musician Jeff Goldblum is probably best known for his roles in some of the biggest blockbuster films of the 1990s, such as Jurassic Park and Independence Day. In the years since he’s also appeared in sequels and other media related to these films. He’s also attained legendary internet status due to memes he’s featured in. More recently, he appeared as the character Grandmaster in a couple of Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, though he’s starred in plenty of less fantastical roles as well.
His characters are often relaxed and laid-back in temperament, and many people, including this commenter, report him as being similar in real life and a real pleasure to be around.
Mickey Rourke
American actor and former boxer Mickey Rourke made his career by playing gruff, confrontational tough guys on the big screen in films such as Sin City and The Expendables. Very often he’s cast as the villain, and he seems to quite enjoy taking on those roles. He’s won several acting awards as well, though he lost out on his sole Academy Award nomination to Sean Penn.
One wonders if some of his experience playing villains came out during the drunken incident shared by this person. They clearly weren’t a fan of Rourke’s before, and this encounter was certainly not going to do anything to win them over.
