People Point Out Surprising Movie Mistakes
Think of your favorite movie. Now think about everything that makes it great, amazing, and unforgettable. True fans can list hundreds of reasons why their favorite is the best of the best. However, if you’re truly devoted to a film, you can also embrace all the ways it messes up. Production issues, set inconsistencies, and script goofs are all part of the movie industry. You almost can’t have a good film without a few of them! We’re human, most people in movies are humans, and that means they make mistakes. That doesn’t mean all movie mistakes are created equal. Some are so egregious that once you think about it, they can change how an entire movie is viewed. Pop the corn, because we’ve found some of the wildest movie mistakes from hit films!

Titanic
Watching Kate Winslet survive in Titanic when both she and Jack could have made it is infuriating. She had everything going on for her, aside from the abusive fiance, and yet she still chooses to be alone in the end. The only thing that kept her company throughout the film with any consistency is that giant necklace and the mole on her face. Of course, not even those things are permanent!
The necklace gets dropped (by her) and the mole tries to jump ship as well. Throughout the movie, Rose’s mole decides it also wants to travel. It’s all over her face and not consistent at all! Perhaps she was adding the beauty mark with makeup and was playing around with the position.
Batman Returns
Every iteration of the Batman franchise brings new stars, new scenarios, and new blunders that make Gotham stick out for the wrong reasons. It’s almost tradition at this point! One of the standard points in all Batman films is that, despite having his mouth and eyes exposed, nobody knows who Batman really is. It helps that he wears more eyeliner than megafans at a My Chemical Romance concert.
In Batman Returns, this is no different. However, when it comes time for the big reveal, Keaton’s version of Batman takes off more than the cowl. In one swift motion he somehow manages to take off the mask and eyeliner in one swoop! Does Alfred make special makeup that doesn’t require a ton of wipes to remove?
Saving Private Ryan
Saving Private Ryan dominated the box office when it premiered. It’s an epic war film full of passion, action, and some of the most memorable scenes in cinema. It also has a star-studded cast where nearly everyone is able to shine. Even stars whose characters were killed off come back and get a little bit of extra screen time.
After Vin Diesel’s character dies in the movie, the platoon is down to seven members. A few scenes later, the full eight are seen traipsing around! Maybe they picked up another person to fill in Diesel’s boots? Steven Spielberg has some explaining to do, because this made no sense!
Jurassic Park
We don’t care what people say, the original Jurassic Park is a masterpiece. Life found a way to come back from fossilization to deliver an amazing movie. We haven’t been able to bring back real dinosaurs yet, but this movie gives us some insight into what that discovery might be like. However, there are some real-world issues though that don’t make sense after watching the film for the twentieth time.
When we first see the t-rex, it’s in a flat enclosure it can stomp around in. But as soon as Allen and the kids climb into it, a huge drop appears! The dino is big, but it’s not over eighty feet tall! Where did that drop come from?
Diamonds Are Forever
There are so many James Bond films it can be hard to keep track of individual stories and mistakes in a scene or two. That’s understandable since each movie is wildly different from the others. The only thing they really have in common, aside from the star’s name, are the fun stunts and gadgets. In Diamonds Are Forever, Bond narrowly avoids some baddies by turning a car on its side and driving through an alley!
We don’t advise people to try this. Mostly because it’s near-impossible. Even in the film things get messed up! Bond enters the alley by leaning the car to the right. However, when he exits, he’s driving on the left side’s wheels!
Godzilla
There are a lot of big monster movies out there. While every generation and production studio has its favorite, there’s only one king. No matter who stands up to them, Godzilla will always be the biggest and baddest giant monster on this and any other planet. Nothing, not even King Kong, can stand up to this giant dino! In fact, most things don’t survive running into Godzilla.
The only thing that has is the Golden Gate Bridge! After Godzilla rampages through San Francisco, tons of stuff is left in shambles, even the famous bridge. When Godzilla gets bored and goes back to the water, the bridge is somehow still intact! Are the engineers THAT on top of things?
Terminator 2
He came back! One Terminator movie was never going to be enough. The second installment of the Terminator franchise is a near-perfect sequel. The villain and effects were next-level and audiences ate it up. The fan reaction was so positive that most small mistakes and goofs went unnoticed. That or they weren’t deemed too important.
However, in true movie fashion, some things are staples, even mistakes. In many car chases, like in Terminator 2, windshields can magically go from intact, to shot out, to just cracked! While the robots are deadly and can repair themselves, the cars still aren’t sentient.If they were, that’d be a great crossover between Pixar and Terminator…
Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom
All of the original Indiana Jones movies are fun adventures. Harrison Ford and his supporting cast have traveled the world and seen some weird and wild stuff. They’ve even had some crazy chases in things that we normally only see in video games! During the mine cart chase in Temple of Doom, we’re treated to a gorgeous view of magma-filled chambers that are full of heat and danger.
As soon as Indy leaves the cart and treks out on foot, the magma vanishes! Instead, there seems to be a shift from raging flames to a waterfall! Which is it Dr. Jones? Perhaps a geologist should have joined the crew.
Goodfellas
A good mob movie, when done well, can be a wild and enjoyable watch for everyone. One of the crown jewels of the genre is Goodfellas. It’s a timeless classic featuring some of the greatest actors in the industry. The kid actors and their props on the other hand…they’re more of a pop-in and pop-out thing.
When Karen decides to visit her husband in jail, she brings along the kiddos. During their conversation, the scene shows a bunch of blocks on the table. Even when they’re not touched, the blocks magically go from stacked, to missing, to messily appearing on the table again!
Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl
Who doesn’t love the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise? The ride is fun. The movies are massive. The casts are great. Most of the films are just a chef’s kiss level of perfection for an idea nobody thought would work. The first film, The Curse of the Black Pearl, introduces us to a wild cast of characters.
One of the best, Captain Barbossa, is a multi-tasking undead captain with a chip on his shoulder. During the final sword fight between him and Jack, Barbossa is busy fighting while also keeping an eye on his chest of coins. He also gets a chance to have a snack while loading and firing a pistol! How many hands does he have?!
Contact
Contact is an amazing movie with legions of fans across the world. It’s even popular in the drag queen community for some reason. That’s probably because most queens don’t Jodie Foster nonsense. Get it? Regardless of what fanbase we’re talking about, the movie holds up decades after it premiered.
It’s so beloved that most fans don’t even notice some of the more high-flying mistakes that made it to the final cut. Fans of jets and planes should rewatch the film to see Jodie Foster fly out in one type of plane but disembark from another! Maybe the aliens changed the model mid-air or something and nobody noticed?
Robocop (2014)
Nobody claims that Robocop is a cinematic masterpiece. The original is just a fun action movie with low-cost effects and cheesy lines. It’s close to perfect in its own way. The remake tried to capitalize on the campy aesthetic while giving the franchise a more serious and grown-up feeling. It does a decent job. However, you’d think with all the advancements we’ve made in tech we could keep some ideas on the same hand.
Robocop’s bionic hand is supposed to be consistent throughout the film. If you pay attention, things go from right to left often and without much explanation. Maybe they’re implying he’s ambidextrous?
Anaconda
Look, making a movie is hard work. There are so many things to keep track of and a strict budget you’ve got to follow. No matter how good your project is, almost every film has to make some compromises. A lot of the time, filmmakers will forgo fancy special effects to trim down costs. Anaconda is a prime example of finding a cheap way to get your effects onto the screen.
The crew trying to survive the giant snake isn’t the best at piloting a boat. They eventually crash a ferry near a waterfall and cause some rocks to tumble. Soon, they dislodge themselves and leave. If you watch close enough, it’s actually the initial entrance scene put in reverse! Rocks don’t fall upwards.
House Of The Dead
House of the Dead is pretty brutal, it’s a remake of a great film that doesn’t quite hit the mark. That doesn’t mean it’s not a fun watch! That’s the benefit of the horror genre, even the bad movies are still entertaining. That doesn’t mean we have to excuse sloppy consistency issues. Remember when everyone’s trying to stay alive on the boat?
It’s a tense scene thanks in part to the rain that makes everything that much worse. Thankfully, the rain only lasts a few frames. Then things are dry. Then wet again. Then dry. Then wet. Wait, what? Maybe this wasn’t a mistake. Perhaps the weather underwent a change too!
The Lord Of The Rings
There are many details people tend to miss in multi-film franchises. The bigger the epic adventure, the smaller the details we let slip through the cracks of our awareness. We may not even pick up on some things because we’re not sure whether or not they’re goofs. In The Lord of the Rings, Legolas has an interesting set of eyes.
Things get so intense that throughout the films his eye color keeps switching between blue and brown! Director Peter Jackson admitted that this was because they occasionally forgot to put in the actor’s contact lenses. For such a big production, this is a mistake we can excuse.
Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter
History is a funny thing. The further away we get from an event, the more distorted people’s memories get. Thankfully, that’s what historians are for. They help remind us what we’ve done and how far we’ve come. For instance, most of us know a bit about Abraham Lincoln. This tall drink of water was the sixteenth President of the United States. He delivered the famous Gettysburg Address. He also slayed tons of vampires.
What? Didn’t you know? Okay, fine, two out of three isn’t that bad. According to Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter, the President was busy running a country, ending Confederate slavery, and slaying the undead. He also delivered his infamous address (in the movie) in front of a fifty-star flag! That’s odd since we didn’t have fifty States in the 1800s, but you know, creative liberties and all that.
The Fast And The Furious 6
Ever heard the expression about doing something so “manly” it’ll put hair on your chest? It’s kind of out of date and definitely has some sexist undertones. The implication here is that doing something masculine enough will cause you to spontaneously grow a ton of hair due to the excitement. The Fast and the Furious movies are a cinematic tour de force that forces everyone, even The Rock, to grow some new tufts!
In the sixth installment of the series, for just a few frames, Dwayne Johnson’s bald and beautiful face somehow grows a goatee! Then, as quickly as it appears, it mysteriously gets shaved off again. He didn’t even have to leave his car!
Commando
He’ll be back. He’ll always be back. It doesn’t even have to be Terminator. Arnold Schwarzenegger will never let people forget about him because he just keeps returning. Every movie he’s in, the stud, former politician, and actor will make an entrance and probably wreck something. In Commando he decided to crash a Porsche because why not?
After the car gets total and flipped, it’s clear it won’t be driving anymore. Then, after Rae Chong joins him on-screen, the vehicle is in driving condition again! Not only that, the dents we saw in the original scene magically popped out! Who knew auto repair was that easy?
Reservoir Dogs
Not all film errors have to do with plot holes or actor issues. Sometimes even the lighting in a movie can be so inconsistent that the mistakes can’t go unnoticed. Lighting is very important in setting the mood and making sure everyone can (or can’t) be seen. The cult classic Reservoir Dogs has one of the greatest lighting offenders.
You can tell there are some problems during a conversation between Mr. Pink and Mr. White. The scene doesn’t take too long. However, if you go by the lighting, it takes hours. Everything is light and overcast blue at first. By the time the two are done speaking, the room is filled with a sunset orange hue!
Top Gun
One of the most blood-pumping, sweat-inducing, brotastic movies in the world is the original Top Gun. Regardless of how you feel about the unnecessary sequel, the original soars high to this day. It has everything you want in a film: fast planes, great music, and Tom Cruise before he lost his mind. It’s great. It also has a touch of magic as all good movies should.
When he’s not in the air and wearing a helmet, Maverick usually has a pair of aviators on him. Sometimes they’re on his face. Sometime’s on his head. If they’re nowhere to be seen, they’ll magically appear again. Those are some pretty impressive shades.
Star Trek: The Wrath Of Khan
Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan! Wrath of Khan is definitely one of the best Star Trek movies of all time. Who could watch Shatner scream at the heavens with such rage and not realize that? It’s such a fantastic scene that cements it as one of the greatest sci-fi films of all time. It’s so exciting that the bloodstains on Captain Kirk’s shirt leap around!
Rewind the tape and pay attention to Kirk’s uniform. A single bloodstain traverses the outfit like Magellan across Earth! Sure, the movie can have some scary parts, but it’s not scary enough to cause stains to flee one spot and set up shop in another.
Paths Of Glory
Kirk Douglas is no stranger to the spotlight. The veteran actor knows when and where he needs to be for the camera to catch him. During Paths of Glory, he was doing what he does best: Running around, screaming, and acting. Even in a war film, it’s clear who the star is supposed to be.
Heck, even in the heat of battle, nobody could take their eyes off of him! However, there is one split-second scene that shows how even the dead are infatuated with the guy. After a huge explosion, one of the war casualties comes back from the dead! Their eyes get wide and they look around for Douglas for a moment!
The Big Nothing
No matter how far you think we’ve progressed as a species, humans have yet to master duplication magic. Yes, we have babies and have been overpopulating the planet. We’re great at that. But magically mass-producing things still takes time. It also requires a lot of resources. We still haven’t mastered the ability to magically multiply stuff mid-scene. Yet.
In The Big Nothing, we get a quick glimpse of the future. Remember when the stars steal a gun and then run away in different directions? They only grabbed one. However, if you pay attention, somehow everyone magically gets a firearm again!
American Pie
American Pie introduced us to the fast-partying style of Stifler and the sexual prowess of Stifler’s mom. Something about that family makes people lose their inhibitions. Nobody’s safe when anyone from that family is on the prowl for a good time. Despite Jennifer Coolidge being the icon she is, we’re here to talk about the infamous pale ale scene during the party.
People put a whole lot of weird and nasty stuff in or on their bodies in this movie. It can be hard to keep track, we get it. However, in this scene, someone’s getting a double dose of gross! The cups keep changing color from white to blue. Does that mean the stuff he was drinking changed as well?
Ocean’s Eleven
Who needs things like flatware and bowls in Sin City? If we know anything about Las Vegas, it’s that you can break the rules and nobody will care or notice. Well, some people will notice, but you gotta be real quick. In Ocean’s Eleven, Brad Pitt showcases his disdain for eating finger food in a split-second scene.
One moment he’s chatting up Julia Roberts and popping shrimp into his mouth, but then something changes. Pitt has so many shrimp all of a sudden that he magically conjures up a bowl! Did some bartender fling one over in the blink of an eye? It’s a small editing mistake, but eagle-eyed viewers still managed to catch it!
The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring
Whenever someone brings up The Lord of the Rings, a bit of suspension in belief needs to take place. This epic saga takes place in a fantasy world where orcs, elves, and terrifying demonic eyes are in control. With all that said, we don’t see a whole lot of necromancy in Middle Earth, but perhaps it’s possible!
Even monsters that are straight-up slain by Aragorn have a habit of sitting up from the dead. After he dispatches some baddies and chases Boromir, one foe couldn’t help but rise from his eternal slumber! We don’t blame them. Who wouldn’t want to see Aragorn run around with that beautiful hair?
Jaws IV
Water is an interesting element. It makes up the majority of the planet’s surface and the human body. It also gets everything wet. This is especially true with clothes. The only time this isn’t the case is in Jaws IV, which seems to defy the laws of reality as we understand them.
By the time the fourth film rolled around, some fantasy elements needed to be introduced. There are only so many ways to tell a shark story. Why not throw in some magic water? Michael Cane showed off this ingenious technology by dropping into water fully clothed but walking out of it dry as a bone!
Freaky Friday
Some movies require a star to do their own stunts. Those that don’t want to get to use incredibly gifted performers known as stunt doubles. Even for less risky scenes, it can be helpful to have someone trained in physical stunts and entertainment. That way, a star doesn’t mess their hair up or something.
In Freaky Friday, both Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan had a stunt double available. The catch is that Lohans’ wasn’t a teenager like her! This professional is clearly an adult. That’s not the problem. The problem is, even for the few frames they appear, they clearly don’t look like the star they’re supposed to be portraying!
Mean Girls
High school is rough. It can also be pretty complicated and tough for teenagers. If it takes you more than four years to get through it, don’t give up. You’ve got this. Everyone learns at their own pace and your journey is your own. With all that out of the way, let’s talk about the best documentary about high school ever: Mean Girls.
This iconic film showcases how terrible teenagers are. Don’t believe us? If you watch close enough you may even see some non teens roaming the halls! Movies love to employ extras, but don’t normally think of how they’ll be portrayed. Some extras may even look a tad older than expected…by a few decades.
Star Wars: A New Hope
Stormtroopers get a bad rap. The fans clown on them for not being able to hit anything, and the Galactic Republic treats them like they’re dispensable. On top of all that, it’s impossible to see in those helmets! Even Luke says so. This hazardous headgear actually caused one of the actors to walk right into a door.
You might’ve missed it as it happens during a tense scene in the first film, but once you see it you’re bound to laugh your butt off! It’s just absurd seeing one of these suited-up, gun-wielding baddies bonk his head like he’s in a clip from America’s Funniest Home Videos.
