Moments That Aged Like Milk

Posted by M. Green

No one can predict the future, but that doesn’t stop us from trying. As time moves forward and new things come our way, people give their two cents on whether or not they’ll stick around. Sometimes they end up being wildly wrong! Time also causes companies and people to change, catchphrases and mission statements of the past become ironic. Hypocrites get exposed and their past behavior no longer sits well with us. Some things just age poorly. Like milk left out on the counter to curdle, these statements just didn’t stand the test of time. In retrospect, they can be hilarious or cringey to look back on.

Here are some of the wildest moments that aged poorly.

Now Video Calls Are Our Life

Phones advanced at a crazy rate in the 21st century. From not having mobile phones to having a mini-computer in our pockets, it’s hard to believe these gadgets are capable of so much. It all started with one of the most popular smartphones, the iPhone. And it only took off from there, Apple released new features to their device every year. But some of us were skeptical about them.

reddit by u/wrpg

Just think about how much we video call today. Heck, some people video call on the go! This feature isn’t unique to the iPhone anymore, but it helps keep people connected around the globe. Isn’t it crazy to think we used to live without it?

Not What She Was Hoping For

Some people need a break from life every now and again. The daily grind can tire us out, and many people yearn for a short escape from the rat race. This woman was merely expressing her wish for a vacation, and boy did she get it! Unfortunately, it wasn’t off to any exciting location, and most of the world was taking it with her.

reddit by u/siariart

Most of us will remember spending March 2020 at home during one of the first lockdowns. It might’ve given us some time away from work, but not the way we were hoping for! This is a classic case of being careful for what you wish for, you just might end up getting it.

Hypocritical?

Most of us are pretty jaded when it comes to big corporations, and can you blame us? We’ve seen time and time again companies preach one thing yet practice another. They may try and cover up certain business activities with benevolent actions, but everything comes to light eventually. This article from Vox aged very poorly over the course of a couple of months.

reddit by u/lighted_is_lit

We wonder if the woman who wrote that article was one of those laid off. While the work of one journalist doesn’t necessarily reflect an entire company, you’ve got to admit it’s pretty ironic seeing these headlines side by side. We wonder if Vox tried to bury that original article…

Investing Fail

The world of investing can be incredibly fickle. Only the very shrewd manage to make serious money off the stock market, the rest of us have to stand by and watch. However, even those who claim to understand the market are sometimes doomed to make terrible decisions. Just ask anyone who’s bought or sold stocks and they’ll have a story of failure to share.

reddit by u/Supernova008

Though none quite as embarrassing as this one! Cryptocurrency was a concept many didn’t understand, and even more, people thought it wasn’t worth buying into. Needless to say, Bitcoin is worth a whole lot more than $2.70. Nick is definitely eating his words!

The Average Has Changed

The Simpsons episode “King-Size Homer” aired in 1995. The plot revolved around Homer looking to gain enough weight to be considered disabled and work from home. The first out-dated part of this plot is that so many of us worked remotely over the past couple years. The second obviously lies in Homer’s weight being considered obscenely obese. 300 pounds no longer seems that absurd.

reddit by u/IttHertzWhenIP

With TV shows like “My 600 Pound Life”, a 300-pound man doesn’t seem all that unusual. In the episode Homer dons a muumuu and is turned away at a movie theater, two things we can’t imagine taking place in the 21st century. While there are still funny elements to the episode, certain aspects will remain relics of the past.

The Standards of “Sin City”

Certain major laws are bound to change with time, one of the big ones in the US was definitely marijuana. For years this “devil’s lettuce” was considered a horrible gateway drug that would tear families apart and melt your brain. But nowadays recreational possession is legal in several states. And Nevada is the last place we would expect pot to be a no-no.

reddit by u/IttHertzWhenIP

Vegas is considered to be an oasis for all kinds of taboos, why do you think so many movies take place there? It’s going to be hard for future generations to believe that possessing weed could get you 20 years in a place known as “Sin City”!

Nine Days Later…

We take a lot of aspects of our modern world for granted. Over the past two decades, technology has made some major advancements, but there are even older inventions that are absolute wonders of the human mind. Today you could board a plane in New York and land in England in less than 7 hours. Before planes, it would’ve taken several days!

reddit by u/AwesomeAlKTM

People in the 1900s were skeptical about mankind’s ability to fly. It does seem pretty fantastic if you look at it from their perspective. Thankfully, Orville and Wilbur Wright weren’t deterred by anyone’s skepticism. In fact, they came out with their invention only 9 days after this headline was published!

What’s a Windows Phone?

There’s more than one smartphone on the market, but none hold the same status as the iPhone. This is a brand people swear by and are incredibly loyal to. Maybe it was Steve Jobs’ genius marketing, maybe it’s genuinely better than other versions out there. Whatever it is, it’s got major staying power. It’s come out with 13 versions since its launch in 2007.

reddit by u/user1one-

This awkward marketing stunt definitely didn’t age well. The Windows Phone was released in 2010 and was discontinued in 2020. That’s a longer lifespan than we would’ve guessed, considering how little we heard about it while it was around. Rest in peace Windows Phone!

Over 92 Million Sold

It’s hard to predict what technologies will be a hit and which will fail miserably. Sometimes even the companies manufacturing them can’t know for certain! People were skeptical when Nintendo came out with the Nintendo Switch. This was a unique device that combined features of a handheld and traditional plug-in console. With over 92 million sold we think it’s safe to say this was a hit.

reddit by u/NAVL-Alprazolam

Nintendo really knows how to come out with unique products that people fall in love with. Maybe it’s because they’ve been around for such a long time, they were founded in 1889! We’d be wary of calling any new product of theirs a failure without a really solid argument.

Walmart? Tiny?

Companies rise and fall as time marches forward. Go ahead and ask your grandparents and they’re bound to have a list of businesses that aren’t around anymore. Back in the 60s there were a few department stores people could count on to make their purchases. Nowadays the big players have completely changed. Woolco isn’t a name that’s come up in the past few decades, and that’s because Walmart bought it!

reddit by u/redsparroww

Kmart used to have their own stores, but they’ve since acquired Sears to become Sears Holdings Corporation. Who knows what the future will bring? One thing’s for certain, Walmart did a lot more than just survive against the big guys!

Touch Screens Only

Remember texting before touch screens? Our thumbs used to get a major workout clicking on the same key over and over again. When phones came out with a full keyboard we thought it was revolutionary. Just imagine going back in time and showing someone a phone with a touchscreen, they would’ve lost their minds.

reddit by u/l-am-Not-Me

With screen protectors there isn’t a whole lot to worry about. We’re not sacrificing too much for the sake of convenience, it’s impossible to imagine our phones being anything but rectangular touch-screens. But who knows, maybe there will be a future cell phone that’s implanted straight into our heads! Let’s hope this article doesn’t age as poorly as this comment.

Did They Predict the Future?

“Would You Rather” games can be an interesting way to pass the time. That is unless your questions start to spiral into pure insanity. Back in the day, there were books that posed their own questions, but as expected, some of these questions didn’t age well. One glance at this image and you’ll be laughing at the irony.

reddit by u/cris0613

The cellphones we carry around everywhere have the ability to track our location and record what we say. How much of that is really being used by others? It’s hard to say for sure but people have their own theories. Some highly cautious people stay away from smartphones for this very reason!

This Hurt to Read

If you don’t remember Blockbuster you may be a part of Generation Z. These video and DVD rental buildings used to be everyone, and visiting one was a real treat. It meant you were going to stay home with some microwave popcorn and enjoy a movie or two. Can you imagine having to visit a store just to watch a movie at home?

reddit by u/Elbarto_007

With the advent of streaming services, these stores are completely obsolete. It’s too bad Blockbuster didn’t hop on that train sooner, maybe then it wouldn’t have become a relic of the past. Believe it or not, there’s still a single Blockbuster open. If you care to visit it you’ll have to travel to Bend, Oregon.

This is a Bad Take

When a new artist has a charting song people wait and see if they’ll stick around. There have been a number of one-hit-wonders out there, Chumbawamba, Blind Melon, and The Knack are a few that come to mind. People are always making predictions when someone new breaks onto the scene, but this Reddit user clearly backed the wrong horse after hearing “Old Town Road”.

reddit by u/ppmaster6969

With 7 charting songs, including hits like “Montero” and “Industry Baby”, it’s clear Lil Nas X is far from a one-hit-wonder. How much staying power does his career have? No one can say for sure, but we’re willing to bet this artist is going to stick around in the 2020s.

And They’re Still Going!

Some TV shows overstay their welcome. The Simpsons is a good example of a series that floundered when it came to staying relevant over the course of many seasons. But some shows just have the ability to keep things fresh year after year. Love them or hate them, South Park has shown its ability to stay in the spotlight after a whopping 24 years!

reddit by u/SamMarduk

Unsurprisingly, people thought this show would fizzle out at some point, but creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker have kept that from happening. The pair have managed to keep their show on top even while dedicating their time to other projects. We hope South Park has many more decades of content in the future.

Turns Out They Were Wrong

The entertainment industry getting involved in politics is nothing new. Actors and musicians have always put in their two cents when it comes to the big issues. They’re just like the rest of us, but with a much bigger audience. However, sometimes they end up being wrong in the long run. When Jussie Smollett went public with a hate crime he experienced the public was split.

reddit by u/B34TBOXX5

Some believed him and some didn’t. It wasn’t until 2021 that Smollet was found guilty of making false police reports, making photos like these pretty awkward to look back on. Can we blame the actors for getting behind a cause? That’s for you to decide.

It’s Still Standing!

The Leaning Tower of Pisa may not be one of the seven wonders of the world, but it’s a structure that keeps tourists coming back year after year. The tower is located in Pisa, Italy, and began tilting when it was completed in the 12th century. This is said to be because of the soft ground it was built on. Nevertheless, it managed to stay standing tall for over 800 years!

reddit by u/Aayan1171

Scholars assume the building will collapse at some point, though it’s hard to say when. This textbook clearly made the wrong prediction. 2020 is over and the tower is still there! Who knows what they’ll rename it once it inevitably falls.

The Live-Action Remakes Would Like a Word

It goes without saying that a company’s mission statement will change over the years. The longer it’s around the more people take over and change its direction. Disney’s had a lot of time to change hands over its 98 year run, and its biggest pivot in recent years has to be its live-action movies. Specifically the remakes of classic Disney films.

reddit by u/Gryncubus

While some people find them entertaining, it’s hard to see them as anything more than a cash grab. These remakes don’t have a fraction of the magic and wonder of their animated counterparts. They’re clearly movies that exist to make money, and sadly they’re very good at it.

Where’s This $300 Phone?

Prices change over the years, it’s a fact of life we all have to accept. A gallon of gas used to cost less than a dollar in the 70s, you can tell that fun fact to anyone who drives a car. We never expect inflation to affect the cost of goods very much. But with new technology, the price tag on things like phones has become insane.

reddit by u/petallofthekittens

$300 for a brand new phone would be a bargain compared to today’s standards. If you want to get your hands on an iPhone 13 you can expect to pay over $800! And a more modest Android smartphone will still run you up a few hundred dollars.

That Catchphrase is Ironic Now

For years, Ellen DeGeneres was a name associated with kindness and wholesomeness. This beloved talk show host seemed to be above any criticism or scrutiny. But all of that changed in 2020 when employees began to come forward with accusations of workplace misconduct. But that wasn’t all, DeGeneres herself was said to not be as sweet as she let on. This eventually would lead to the show’s cancellation.

reddit by u/-WhY_HellO_ThERe-

As this information came out people began digging up some less savory moments from her talk show. Among these was an episode that involved Ellen pressuring Mariah Carey into admitting she was pregnant. While this sign might’ve looked inspirational once it’s nothing but ironic now.

W R O N G

The Star Wars prequels are a point of contention among fans. Some regard them as utter blasphemy to the series’ legacy while others enjoy lengthening the story’s lore. However, there’s one thing most fans can agree on; Jar Jar Binks is an absolutely terrible character. Is there anyone out there who likes him? His ugly design and annoying voice grated on fans’ nerves.

reddit by u/SuperAceSteph

And that’s not even mentioning his bumbling antics. This prediction went sourer than milk left out on the counter. We can’t believe anyone compared this CGI monster to a beloved animated bear. Whoever wrote this review must’ve been tipsy while watching the film, there’s no other explanation.

Remember the Hype?

Most of the things Google has come out with have been major hits. Their search engine is the most popular worldwide, and that’s to say nothing about Google maps, drive, photos, and more. But don’t be fooled, this company doesn’t have a perfect track record. Many will remember their trial social media site in the early 2010s.

reddit by u/Teenagedirtbag98

People thought this was going to be the new Facebook. It felt like an exclusive club, mainly because you could only join it through invitation. Whether or not that was its downfall is hard to say. All we know for sure is that Google+ bombed hard. Whoever made this meme must’ve been bad at predictions.

When Was the Last Time You Took a Horse to Work?

It’s hard to picture the car as a revolutionary invention. But like all creations, it was considered new at one point. The automobile was brought into the world in the 1880s, before then people used to get around with horses! What is now a luxury pet was once the main method of transportation. Below you’ll see a paper making the argument in favor of the four-legged creature.

reddit by u/Past_Construction946

But unless you’re in rural areas you’re not likely to see anyone getting around on a horse. It’s weird to imagine an animal being more convenient than a car! We’re thankful that we were born into a world with such convenient transportation. Plus, cars are much better vehicles for road trips!

Now They’re Bigger Than Ever

Every new invention has its naysayers, and video games are no exception. While this method of entertainment isn’t universally loved, it has enough fans worldwide to keep it going for generations to come. What started out as hand-held devices you’d play alone have become multiplayer games that can involve people around the globe. And the video game industry continues to innovate to this day.

reddit by u/mattpilz

But back in the 80s people like Sharon thought they were a passing fad. Back then she was most likely processing words on a typewriter! It’s pretty incredible to see how much technology has evolved and how universal video games have become. It all started with Pong and went uphill from there!

WandaVision Anyone?

Twins Mary-Kate and Ashley were born into fame. They were in front of a camera from infancy and their popularity only grew from there. From zinging one-liners on Full House to starring in direct-to-video films, these sisters really rose to the top. But a third sister named Elizabeth stayed out of the spotlight, hardly anyone knew she existed until her major role in Wanda Vision.

imgur

She’s definitely a household name among Marvel fans! To think she was sitting in the background all these years while her sisters were in the limelight. Now they’ve switched places, with the twins taking a break from acting. Elizabeth is probably glad she finally got her chance to shine.

He Brought Shame to the Joker

While its movies don’t currently have the same popularity as Marvel, there’s no denying the iconic status of DC. Its characters are known worldwide, and its most famous villain has been on the screen in multiple forms. Fans will argue over who portrayed the Joker best, but one of the all-time favorites is Heath Ledger’s version in The Dark Knight.

reddit

And everyone’s least favorite? We think Jared Leto’s performance in Suicide Squad might take that title. The film was panned by audiences and critics alike, with Leto’s Joker being mocked for his bizarre delivery and appearance. We think it’s safe to say it didn’t hold a candle to Ledger’s Joker!

That’s Gotta Hurt

Not all predictions are on a large or historical scale. Sometimes people make wildly incorrect judgments when it comes to their personal lives. We’re sure most of us have incorrectly assumed a friend or romantic partner was perfect, only to have it all come crashing down later on. The lesson here is to keep your private life off social media!

reddit by u/Zee_Ventures

Her ex-boyfriend’s overenthusiasm might’ve been a red flag from the start. But in all fairness, there was probably no way for this girl to know she was dating a heartless cheater. The only sure thing here is that her original Tweet aged VERY badly. She’ll probably wait a little longer before announcing her next beau.

Before Sugar-Free Was a Thing

Diet fads come and go. Nowadays companies are pushing protein into their foods in an effort to make them seem healthier. Manufacturers won’t shy away from telling us how much “natural fruit juice” is in their products. The health food market is worth a lot, but sometimes they have us focusing on the wrong things. Can you believe there was a time people thought sugar was a diet food?

reddit by u/CraftBeerMountaineer

Today we know that added sugar can make us hungrier in the long run, causing us to snack more than usual. This ad says it’ll lower our appetite when it does the complete opposite! Sugar went from being a diet food to a detriment to health.

Not a Believable Killer?

The Terminator was an iconic 80s sci-fi action movie, starring one of the most famous bodybuilders of all time. The movie post can be recognized by people around the world, as is Schwarezzeneger’s “I’ll be back,” line. We can’t imagine anyone else playing this killer cyborg from the future. But believe it or not, one football player was turned down for a very interesting reason.

wikipedia

For those of you born after the 90s, O.J. Simpson is infamous for his high-profile murder trial. Despite being found not guilty, the public at large believes he killed his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ronald Goldman. But a decade earlier, James Cameron just didn’t see him as a bad guy!

The Internet is Everything

The Internet is a phenomenon that has shaped the world in many different ways. But before it came into fruition people didn’t know what to make of it. As with all new inventions, experts were called to give their opinions and predictions. This economist gave his two cents on how the internet would impact the economy, and boy was he wrong.

reddit by u/javatar44

Last time we checked no one ordered a new pair of pants over a fax machine. The internet has made it possible for stores to sell their products online, it also gave way to small-time creators to get their wares around the world. Since this quote was published Krugman has said the statement was meant to be, “fun and provocative, not to engage in careful forecasting.” Sounds like he’s backpedaling!

Not a Thought-Out Tattoo

This long-running adult animated series made a bold move when killing off one of their main characters. The plotline did an excellent job of shocking fans as well as garnering plenty of media attention. Typically the main cast is there to stay until the series’ end. Being a beloved character, viewers of the show were understandably devastated. Too bad this guy didn’t realize the dog would be brought back to life.

reddit by u/jamie_X_passion

Creator Seth McFarlane said he pulled the stunt to show people to never take those they love for granted. Though truthfully we think the publicity played a part in it as well. Regardless, this guy should’ve waited a little longer before getting this ink!

He’ll Have a Shorter Reign Than He Expected

While this cover isn’t technically incorrect, the people behind it didn’t expect Queen Elizabeth II to hold the throne for so long! She’s one of those figures who seems practically immortal. The monarch is well into her nineties and she’s seen it all. Heir to the throne Charles is in his 70s, it’s doubtful he’ll have a reign quite as long as his mother.

reddit by u/Late-List

He looks like such a young man in that photo, he probably thought he’d be king sooner rather than later. But after all these years he’s probably gotten used to the idea of remaining a Prince. It’s not such a bad title by itself!

Karma Came for Her

Be careful what kind of energy you put out into the universe, karma’s always waiting around the corner. Looks like this woman had a bad Walmart experience and decided to disparage the kind of folks who work there. Not a great look. Retail workers often need to deal with some pretty difficult situations, they deserve just as much respect as anyone else.

reddit by u/diverareyouok

This lady ended up eating her words when she took a job at Walmart. We wonder if she remembered what she said in 2013 while putting on her new uniform. Walmart might not be a glamorous job, but it’s a living! Maybe her new experience gave her some much-needed humility and perspective.

That Didn’t Last Too Long

A lot of people thought the Star Wars prequels were a bad move. Creator George Lucas was pretty keen on telling the full story of Darth Vader, and to be fair it’s an interesting tale. Whether it was executed well is a totally different story. For a while it seemed the Star Wars story was over, but then Disney came along…

reddit by u/IndiaSuperPower2022

You’d be surprised how easily money can change people’s opinions. Four billion dollars is a huge chunk of change, it probably made Lucas forget all about this old assertion he made in 2008. Now, for better or for worse, we have a whole new slew of Star Wars stories.

Not Environmentally Friendly Anymore!

This will bring back old memories of being asked “paper or plastic?” at the checkout counter. Back in the day, environmental groups advocated for using less paper to prevent deforestation. At the time, plastic seemed like a tree-friendly option. But nowadays it’s the ultimate evil onto the Earth. The stuff takes hundreds of years to break down!

reddit by u/Fattall

Paper, on the other hand, decomposes in a matter of weeks. It’s crazy to think we once opted for plastic instead. But humanity is always learning and making new discoveries, it’s only natural that we’d have a few missteps throughout history. Though it’s still pretty bizarre to see plastic being labeled as “a smart environmental choice”!

They Doubted Tom Brady’s Superpowers

If you’re not an NFL fan you might not know who Tom Brady is, though he’s arguably one of the biggest names in the sport. This powerhouse had been playing for two decades, he’s 44 and is showing no signs of slowing down. Brady had played 20 seasons for the New England Patriots, only to move to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020.

reddit by u/notgeckogary

Clearly whoever wrote this headline didn’t have enough faith in him. Brady went to the Super Bowl with the team and they ended up winning against the Kansas City Chiefs. It was their first win since 2003, and we don’t think Tom Brady’s presence was any coincidence!

The Worst Movie Musical

You’ve probably come across at least one WatchMojo video. The YouTube channel is constantly cranking out top ten lists, though they can be hit-or-miss. This particular video seems like an interesting watch, though it’s clear their ranking hasn’t aged well. Frankly we’re surprised Cats was placed at the top! There are plenty of great movie musicals, but Cats doesn’t exactly lend itself to a movie format.

reddit by u/Illustrious_Solid_47

If you don’t believe us you can find out for yourself! Cats was one of the biggest movie bombs in a while, it was panned by critics and audiences for its bizarre visuals and plot. If you’re interested in the show you’re better off watching the stage version!

How Dare They Besmirch Alex Trebek

New TV shows always have their naysayers. It’s impossible to know what content will stick with audiences and what will be passed over for the next new thing. It seems Jeopardy had a slew of critics when the game show first hit screens. These people would’ve been shocked to learn that it lasted 36 years! Not to mention Trebek going down as one of the greatest hosts in history.

reddit by u/Torley_

We wonder what Trebek did to get these people so upset. We can’t imagine him as anything but a loveable and professional host. Since his passing in 2020, the show has been scrambling to find a suitable judge to replace him!

We Don’t Think These Sentiments Exist Anymore

Attitudes about the internet have changed over the years. When it was still relatively new, we were cautious when it came to sharing any information about ourselves online. But nowadays people put all their business out there! Facebook is one of many social media platforms where people share news and photos about themselves, but the tides have changed for this site, too.

reddit by u/spinybutton49

Over the last few years the website has landed itself in some hot water when it comes to privacy. It’s safe to say people are less enthusiastic about the platform nowadays. We doubt a statement like this would be made today, people trust Facebook a whole lot less than they used to!

Not So Fond of the Gym Anymore, eh?

This guy’s motivational mantra wound up being super ironic. We don’t expect anything too drastic to happen at the gym, worst case scenario we tire out and leave early. But this man ended up dealing with a truly terrifying situation! We’d start panicking if we were locked in a gym overnight, though we hope he handled it better than that.

reddit by u/Jamandcheese1

Maybe he had a few protein bars on hand to stave off his hunger in the middle of the night. After getting out he probably avoided the gym for a while after that, or perhaps he switched over to a different place. We bet he regretted going on that particular day!

Doctors Promoting Cigarettes

Nowadays you’re not allowed to advertise cigarettes on TV, but it wasn’t always like that. Cigarette ads were all over the place, magazines, radio, TV, you name it. And there weren’t any warning labels on the boxes, either. Before the effects of smoking were widely known, cigarette companies would boast about their brand being approved by doctors!

reddit by u/4reddityo

While people still light up today, smoking was far more prevalent in the 60s than it is in the 21st century. Smoking in restaurants, airplanes, and even classrooms are a thing of the past. It’s quite jarring to see a man with a stethoscope advertising Camels to us, but this was once pretty common!

A Little Late Now

James Cameron’s Avatar came out in 2009 and proceeded to smash all box office records. People were absolutely breath taken by the Na’vi and the setting of Pandora. Though some felt the plot was a bit overdone, it was still a major hit that had everyone talking. A movie that successful is sure to have a sequel, right?

u/HooptyDooDooMeister

Looks like the release date for Avatar 2 keeps getting pushed further and further. It’s been over a decade since the film came out, seems like a sequel would be a little late now. But who knows? Maybe when Avatar 2 eventually hits theaters it’ll break the records set by its predecessors.

The Longest Fad of All Time

It’s clear that the rise of the internet was confusing for people at the time. Obviously, it’s a huge part of our world now, but take a moment and consider what it must’ve been like back in the day. Computers themselves were relatively new inventions, the concept of the world wide web was probably hard to comprehend.

Reddit by u/RopesAreForPussies

Now we can’t imagine our lives without the internet. How would we look up word definitions or check the weather in a matter of seconds? How would we stay in touch with our friends and family around the world? Sure, it has its downsides, but overall it’s really improved the world for the better.

What Have You Done Kevin?!

Every new year we make wishes and resolutions for the next 365 days. This tradition can start quite early on in life, who else remembers doing this sort of thing in school? Kevin gave a sweet albeit generic answer, though we would’ve preferred his prediction to the actual outcome. He clearly didn’t foresee the COVID pandemic, but to be fair neither did most of us.

Reddit by u/2343252621

We hope he doesn’t think he jinxed us all with this innocent prediction. Though it was a pretty ambitious one, curing EVERY disease in a year is a pretty impossible feat. Isn’t the hopefulness of children great? We wish we could go back to those naive times.

Pretty Big Jump

As you can see from the photo on the right, Demi Lovato used to be a vegetarian. People take on this diet for a number of reasons ranging from animal welfare to health, and it looks like Demi was an animal-lover who didn’t want to see feathered friends on the dinner table. But it looks like that mindset didn’t last too long…

reddit by u/lion_OBrian

A lot of people chose to abandon their vegetarian or vegan diets, others will stick it out until the end. We can’t exactly blame Demi for choosing to change their eating habits, but it’s pretty ironic seeing these two photos side by side. At least it wasn’t the same turkey!

Tell That to the Series Finale

Game of Thrones was one of the biggest series of the 2010s. You couldn’t go anywhere without people talking about this fantasy series full of death, war, and betrayal. It shook up the fantasy genre and managed to gain mainstream popularity. Unfortunately, its later seasons aren’t fondly remembered by fans. Having run out of books written by George R.R. Martin, the showrunners were forced to come up with original storylines.

Reddit by u/Jaf1999

These weren’t very well-received by fans. The finale was the nail in the coffin of this great series, and something that people try to avoid remembering. Clearly this article was wrong in their prediction, running out of books is likely what led to the drop in the show’s quality.

A Little Awkward Now

Let’s be real for a moment, no couple gets together with the expectation that they’re going to divorce. Most couples get married with the belief that they’ll be together forever. But famous couples often fall victim to divorce, and Kim and Kayne were no exception. Though fans might’ve believed they’d stick it out, they ended their marriage in 2021.

This Instagram post was probably seen as sweet at the time, but now it just feels uncomfortable. We wonder if she kept this one up or if she pulled romantic photos like these. Photos like these can remind you of the good times, which can be an important way to cope with any breakup.

Do NOT Do This!

Safety precautions are subject to change over the years. What we thought was safe one hundred years ago would be majorly hazardous today. Case in point, the image below. Nowadays batteries are made out of less toxic materials and can be thrown away, though it’s preferable to recycle them. But the number one way you NEVER get rid of batteries is by burning them.

Doing this will release chemicals into the air which have been shown to cause lung problems. We don’t even want to think about the harm sustained by the people who believed this was a good idea. We’re glad the world is more aware of the dangerous effects they can have.

So That Wasn’t True

Most of the world grew up during a time without smartphones. If we wanted to calculate which carton of milk had the best price for its size, or how many apples Susie would have after Greg took away five, we’d have to do the math in our heads. Carrying around a calculator would be plain impractical…at least that’s what our teachers told us.

Nowadays we have a calculator, camera, computer, and music player all in one small device. While it’s important to know basic math, there’s really no need to solve complicated equations on the fly. Oh, and we still don’t understand why they taught us cursive either!

The Worst Year for Travel

A lot of us get the itch to travel, some people call it “wanderlust”. The idea of selling your worldly possessions and trekking across the globe sounds highly appealing to some, though it isn’t the most practical thing to do. It would’ve been especially complicated to pull off in the midst of a global pandemic!

In 2020 especially countries were closing their borders and enforcing lockdowns, not a very fun time to travel. We sincerely hope this woman didn’t go through with her plans, she would’ve had an extremely difficult time. Now travel is a bit easier, though COVID testing still makes it a little more complicated than it used to be.

Now It’s Obsolete

It’s extremely bold to claim that any piece of technology is immune to becoming obsolete. Even the devices we have today will probably become defunct after enough time passes. This computer would be considered an ancient artifact by today’s standards, most kids probably wouldn’t even recognize it. Though this slogan did have a double meaning, we have to cut it a little slack…

Apparently this particular brand could be traded in for a newer model on the cheap, which was part of the reason they adopted this slogan. Still, looking at that sticker in the 2020s is definitely an ironic moment. Let’s not be too sure our tech will be around forever.
