Meyer’s theft of the plane put the Air Force into a tailspin,  with several fighter jets scrambled, both from the Royal Air Force and French Air Force, all trying to find the plane, and Meyer.

Though some believed the plane had been shot down, the officers at the time quashed that rumor, and said that the reports were accurate as written.

But the transcripts from the tower tell a contradicting tale, one that says it wasn’t just two planes that were launched to find the plane, and were unsuccessful.
