Kids Stand Up To Their Toxic Parents

Posted by M. Kroll

You know what they say, blood is thicker than water, but what happens when that blood is more like battery acid? Toxic parents can make your life feel like a never-ending horror movie, but some kids have had enough and decided to stand up for themselves. That’s right, these individuals aren’t taking any more crap from their toxic parents and are ready to take charge of their lives. Whether it’s setting boundaries, seeking help, or cutting ties altogether, these kids are breaking the cycle of abuse and taking control of their own happiness. So, buckle up and get ready for some serious inspiration, because we’re sharing the stories of kids who stood up to their toxic parents and how they did it. Get ready to witness some serious bravery!

Continue Being An Ally, Friend!

Not every parent and child are going to agree on the same issues. It’s clear that our parents grew up in a different generation as some of them refuse to accept other people for who they are. We’re not exactly sure why this happens, but some folks just can’t stand the fact that the LGBTQIA+ community has allies.

reddit by u/Socialableintrovert

That’s not what the A stands for, but it’s still nice that they’re there. Not every ally comes from an accepting home. It’s wild and completely bonkers to think that even non-queer allies to the community can experience homophobia. Good for this person for not backing down when their bigoted parent starts fussing!

They Can Dish But That’s It

It’s fair to say that if you can’t take criticism or sarcasm, you shouldn’t deliver it. It’s a two-way street that so many people think should be on their side until it works against them. Regardless of how you voted or feel that others should have voted, the 2016 and 2020 elections in the States happened.

reddit by u/engwish

We all went through it. Someone lost. Someone else won. That’s the tea. This dad doesn’t seem to appreciate that that’s how democracy works. He also doesn’t seem to like his own words being thrown back at him. Well, if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen and stop over-seasoning your food.

You Get What You Wish For

Listen, a parent’s job is to raise their kid in a safe and loving environment and then prepare them for adulthood so they can fly the nest. Just like other animals, it’s a basic task. That doesn’t mean parents and children need to get along. In fact, quite a few can’t stand each other for some reason. Some parents will even fail to realize that they were so abusive that a kid wouldn’t ever want to talk to them again after leaving!

reddit by u/Retcher_ballwiggons

When that happens, unfortunately, it’s up to the other person to lay down the law and let them know exactly how they feel. If the kid is fortunate, the parent may even take the first step and send a rude message just to help them get the no-contact agreement started. All that’s left to do is hit that block button and move on.

Just As We Thought, Trash

Never has there been a more fitting caller ID photo. As a parent, your sole mission is to raise and protect your child. Make sure they’re safe and accepted and loved. That’s it. It’s not easy, but it’s also not rocket science. As they grow up and figure out who they are, a mom or dad may not always understand or agree with their kid’s journey. That shouldn’t matter.

reddit by u/Tulip_Flores

It’s their journey to make. Sending hateful messages and claiming they’re making poor “choices” when identity isn’t a choice isn’t just rude, it’s hurtful. It shows how little the parents themselves were taught about acceptance and understanding. We’re glad their kid turned out better than them. Break that mold!

Yeah, No, That’s Still Abuse

If your parenting philosophy involves hitting your child until they bleed, you’re a bad parent. You need a new plan, but you’re still just a bad parent. If someone else’s parents thought assault and abuse were the ways to go, they’re also just a really bad parent. Spoiler: parents can be horribly wrong, too. They make bad decisions and choices like the rest of us.

reddit by u/Old_Country9807

However, there’s no excuse for hurting anyone, especially a kid. Knowledge doesn’t go in where the “blood comes out”. Wounds, trauma, and a lifetime of therapy go in. That’s all. The only valuable life lesson someone learns from abuse is to resent the abuser and distance themselves from them.

Some People Refuse To Apologize

If there’s a toxic individual in your life, get rid of them. Distance yourself as much as possible. The further away you get, the better your mental state will be. Of course, therapy, acknowledging the abuse, and maybe trying to reason with the other person could help. That’s case-specific though. This screenshot is a great example of what happens when an abuser is finally confronted.

reddit by u/instantlightning2

It’s a shame that he refuses to even listen to his kid’s statement. This dad seems to have their head buried so far into the sand that he’s reaching the earth’s hot inner core. If this is their response, perhaps going no-contact is the best plan to find some relief from the stress.

He Showed His True Colors

The old rule of thumb for a family gathering was to never mention religion or politics. Those two topics always seemed to rub people the wrong way. Unfortunately, those discussions are sometimes unavoidable. This is especially so when a child is a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. Accepting your offspring for who they are should be a boilerplate rule that must be followed before someone qualifies to be a parent.

reddit by u/Fiyachan

Since that’s not a thing, people like this are allowed to raise kids and then vote against their lifestyle choice because of stupid reasons. Then, when the kid points out the hypocrisy, the parent will try to guilt trip them with an inheritance! No amount of money is worth staying connected to someone like that.

It’s Not A Choice People Make

Discovering your own identity isn’t an overnight process. It can take some people years, decades, even a lifetime to not only realize who they are, but to accept it and learn to express and live with themselves in an authentic way. This, for some reason, rubs certain people the wrong way. After a certain age, it appears that an entire generation (or two) worth of people just refuse to learn anything new.

reddit by u/popcornbeanpaste

They don’t care if there are now words being put to feelings that people have struggled with for a long time. They don’t care that now more people are positively finding their place in the world. If someone isn’t a “He” or a “She”, some people don’t want to hear about it or be near anyone who doesn’t fit into their gender binary. It doesn’t even matter if the person is their own (adult) child.

Choose: The Bottle Or The Grandkids?

Alcohol can be a terrible killer. It can exacerbate people’s addictive personality traits, corrupt minds, and destroy the body from the inside-out when consumed regularly. That’s why moderation, if you’re drinking anything, is always best.  Alcoholism itself is a growing disease that isn’t only affecting individuals but also those around them. It has a way of tearing families apart.

reddit by u/his_glory_alone

While this conversation could have gone a lot worse, it seems like we’re seeing a grandfather decide to choose his love of drinking and profanity over spending time with his own grandchildren! The refusal to not drink or cuss isn’t what’s sad here. It’s the quick decision to only send cards instead of considering a face-to-face visit that stings.

She Practically Rewrote The Bible

There’s not accepting your child and then there’s this. What kind of retelling of the Good Book in text form is this? This lengthy sermon just to say you don’t want to be part of your gay child’s life is completely unwarranted, ma’am. The only good thing about it is the humorous angle where she managed to take a scripture screenshot and knew how to send it.

reddit by u/CivilDiscourse

This kid remained way more composed than some of us would have been. If anything, she’s the definition of grace and patience. The mom on the other hand? She probably needs to reread that book again and pay attention to the message of the story.

This Was Over A Password

Technology can be very confusing and intimidating for some people. They may even get irrationally angry because they don’t understand how to do certain things, like change their Facebook password. This entire five-message dispute has a lot of twists in it. First off, the ASAP emergency call request was because Mom couldn’t change her password.

reddit by u/Jamied2003

This was obviously another catalyst for an already heated situation when the child had to set things straight. They had to make it known that they were done with a lifetime of abuse at the hands of this lady. Then, the mom (obviously) gets upset. After that, everyone’s mad, not talking, and the Facebook password remains the same.

Messy Room, Messy Life

Ugh, okay, stop. We get it. You’re not happy with your mom at the moment. Breathe. Think about what you want to type and then do it. Typing while angry may feel like a good idea, but it just creates an array of words in one giant bright green run-on sentence. We want your mom to really hear your important argument.

reddit by u/mydude_guy

Feeling like anything that you do is never enough is a horrible experience. You continue to try your best to make your parents proud and all they do is ridicule you. We respect our parents, but sometimes enough is enough. Regardless of how messy your room is, you should live your life for yourself. It’s hard to stand up to someone we love. Respect for that! Set things straight, prioritize and move forward.

Did They Kidnap The Grandson?

This reads less like someone standing up to their parents and more like a parent just trying to keep control of their child’s upbringing. Why would a biological grandparent want to negotiate a visitation contract? That seems like it’s crossing several boundaries, red tape, and all other manners of lines.

reddit by u/lavender_dreams95

This parent is trying to juggle the needs of their autistic son and an existing parental visitation agreement. Surely their own parents coming for them is not particularly helpful. We wouldn’t be surprised if this became the next hit Netflix true crime documentary or something. Just because you become a grandparent doesn’t mean you’re entitled to your grandchildren whenever you want.

Do It, Call The Cops!

Some parents go so far beyond overbearing that they’re impossible to live with. If you’re not in a safe place or need to leave, and you’re legally allowed to be on your own, go for it! Be aware of the reality of living on your own, but make sure your safety comes first. This kid did things by the book.

reddit by u/Rogueness04

That caused this mom to go from angry to upset to a little bit remorseful…only for a minute. She then went right back to sending threatening messages. We kind of feel bad for the teen, but it’s great that they put their foot down and said they were done being treated unfairly!

Shared Houses, Share House Rules

Leaving home on bad terms is already an uncomfortable situation. Leaving home on bad terms with just one out of two parents can make an uncomfortable situation a bit more tricky to handle. This person moved out after being told to leave by their dad.

reddit

While the child and father don’t get along in the slightest, the mom still seemed okay enough to have her kiddo get mail delivered to their old house. That didn’t sit well with the dad at all. Thankfully, since he wasn’t the only one who owned the house, he couldn’t ban his child or threaten them with the police.

Tips On How Not To Parent

Not every parent can handle the struggles that come with raising a child with special needs or mental health issues. Instead of admitting they need assistance, or aren’t equipped to handle things alone, parents (like this one) will go off the deep end. The “kid” that left home with friends only did so after her mom stole a phone with nude photos of her daughter on it!

reddit by u/spaceinvaderbo

She then kept making fun of and threatening her kid’s life for almost no reason! According to the daughter, things had been bad since the mom decided she couldn’t handle her daughter’s mental health issues! Instead of creating a calm and safe environment, she drove her own children away!

We Hope Your Wish Comes True

Listen, dude, if you’ve failed to parent so badly that your kid is only on a first name basis with you, that’s a big deal. Not many deadbeat parents can fail this badly and still somehow maintain a relationship with the child they hurt. Many kids, regardless if they’re grown or not, are quick to write off the abuser as soon as they can.

reddit by u/100percentflesh

Others, like Taryn, are able to let the parent know just where their relationship stands. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing! Sometimes, having that conversation can be hard, but can lead to the greatest gift of all: independence and living a more stress-free life. Don’t let the “Pathetic Little Red Man” hold you back, have a great birthday Taryn!

They Should Call The Police

Theft is theft. It doesn’t matter if you were robbed by a stranger, “friend”, or a family member. If you have a bank account, and someone other than you accessed it, that’s theft. Call the police. Don’t let your relationship with the person affect you from doing what’s right and protecting what’s yours. The upsetting thing isn’t just that the mom stole from her kid; she does nothing to deny it!

reddit by u/OatmealRaisin-Cookie

Instead, it seems like she decided to just take whatever she wanted, spend it on herself, then admit to it because…why? Is she not afraid of the consequences? Well, hopefully she bought something important because this was probably her last chance at any cash or a relationship with her child.

Grandparents Should Be More Mature

One of the perks of being a grandparent is that you can help be part of a kid’s life without needing to be there constantly to help raise them. Usually, once they grow up, a grandchild will call and occasionally visit. They’ll also, like most people online, send a cute little birthday message on Grandma’s Facebook each year or something.

reddit by u/Nymphomanius

However, when an emergency strikes, some superfluous things will be cast aside, like a birthday message, to tend to the immediate issue. This guy’s wife was diagnosed with Lymphoma around his grandmother’s birthday. Obviously, he has been focused on his spouse and lost track of the days. This wasn’t to Grandma’s liking at all. Well, we think she could have also called to check in!

What Do College Grads Wear?

A little context: this exchange happened after a very informal Thanksgiving meal. The mom and adult kid were both at great-grandma’s house. It was supposed to be a special family gathering, irrespective of the choice of motif. The choices made by her recently graduated kid and girlfriend were certainly not acceptable to this mother. They showed up in coordinated and clean outfits that happened to be jeans and t-shirts.

reddit by u/thundershock823

Mom FLIPPED OUT. She ended up berating her son through some confusing texts! Then, here’s the fun part: she banned her son from his great-grandmother’s house, which she has no claim to any way. He did a great job standing up to her for this crazy behavior. This could be an excellent telenovela!

It Goes: Once Bitten, Twice Shy

After growing up in an abusive household or one where a parent values substances over the welfare of their family, some kids end up calling for no-contact orders. That’s fine! People should do whatever it takes to safely give themselves a more stable living situation and mental state. This mom tried to reach out to her kid to connect, but instead, was met with the harsh reality and consequences of her actions.

reddit by u/djkdangerous

Yes, people can overcome drug dependency and addiction. That doesn’t change how they’ve acted in the past. It also, at least in this guy’s case, doesn’t help or make things better. Apparently, this is a road everyone in that family has been down before and it seems that this guy has finally had enough.

You Can’t Have It Both Ways

We’re jumping down to the bottom of the pic here. That’s not how you talk to your kid. In fact, that’s not how you should talk to anyone. How dare you write off your offspring after they demand respect due to years of abuse. Maybe this could be a blessing. At least now, despite it being hurtful, this deadbeat dad showed their true colors to their kid once and for all. Walk away!

reddit by u/Razor01

It may be upsetting, but once the kid removes themselves from the situation entirely, things will get better. Nobody needs this kind of negativity in their lives. If someone is callous enough to tell their child that they’re dead to them, then the child doesn’t need a useless weight of stress like that in their lives.

Mom Is In The Wrong

Okay, nobody is dead in the traditional sense. The mother is referring to the “dead sister” after they transitioned. The “death” is the death of the previous identity and the lack of acceptance for living life as a man instead of a woman. This is what this is about. We’ll be the first to shout it from the rooftops, this mom is completely out of her mind. If your child comes out as trans, or any sort of member of the LGBTQIA+ community, the last thing you should do is consider them not part of the family, let alone reference them as deceased.

reddit by u/Worldsmallestviolin8

This parent went further than that though. They decided to not only dismiss their trans child and their non-trans offspring but to call one of them a freak and consider them both dead, in the literal and metaphoric sense. It’s a good thing her child understands how terrible she is and won’t let it get to them anymore. We’re glad these siblings have each other!

Caught In Her Own Lie

Gaslighting is a form of abuse. If you say something, and everyone hears it, and you then deny it ever happening, that’s ridiculous and abusive. For context, the person in blue grew up with selective mutism and needed help in social settings. As an adult, things are better, but occasionally they’ll ask their mom for some assistance. It doesn’t help when this mother then shouts to tell her own child to keep their mouth shut.

reddit by u/kittbith77

Having grown up terrified to speak, these verbal attacks from their own mother must have really hurt. When the kid had the confidence to defend themselves, the parent immediately denied it ever happened. After some back and forth, it turns out the mom has been doing stuff like this for years. This isn’t about winning or losing. It’s about owning up to your actions, Mom. Just apologize, genuinely!

This Is About A Shoe

While we can do our best to pet-proof the house, eventually, those feisty and rascally little critters will find a way to explore and claim things that aren’t theirs. Pets will be pets! That’s just something that comes with having an animal in the house. This entire feud in text form is happening because a pet rabbit chewed a tiny inch off of the tip of a dad’s shoe. Or is it even about shoes at all?

reddit by u/Deevys

The rabbit incident led to a six-hour screaming session where he belittled his daughter, chased her around the house, and then called his friends to loudly complain and make her feel bad. Who calls their friends just to verbally assault their own kid?! Even after offering to pay for the shoes, the adult child was dragged into a family fight and was then gaslighted!

Respect & Acceptance. Not One Or The Other.

Having a great relationship with our father is something we should cherish. We want our dad to love us unconditionally! However, things tend to change when your dad decides to be a bigot. After a few years pass and he begins to show who he really is, maybe holding on to that bond will be harder than you thought.

reddit by u/LittleSnowDragon

Acceptance about his child’s true identity should be a priority for this father. When that doesn’t happen, the child finally has the confidence to set things straight. Carrie-Anne was really hurt and just wanted to be accepted and addressed by the correct pronouns. How many chances are too many?

Go To AA, Not The DMs

Looks like Mom hit the bottle a bit too hard one night. Instead of sleeping off her bender, she decided to take out her frustration on her kid. This entire exchange started after the parent got drunk and couldn’t locate their vape. In their (not so) rational state of mind, they immediately blamed their kid.

reddit by u/serryn_bruh

Even when it turns out they didn’t have it, she doubled down and refused to accept the fact that she was too inebriated to find it herself. It couldn’t have been easy for this child to put their own parents in their place. Hopefully, things ended up all right. Also hopefully, this person found a dentist and a night guard to help with that teeth grinding.

You Are Not The Truth

Some people live in their own reality. Whether it’s to cope with the stresses of the real world, deny the reality that other people have their own lives to live, or whatever, some people just can’t live on this plane of existence. Some parents can’t even fathom the idea that once their kids are grown that they’re done depending on them!

reddit by u/Kowalskeeeeee

This fully grown and independent adult told their parents they couldn’t travel during the pandemic for a get-together. With the restrictions in place, it was just too dangerous to risk getting sick. That didn’t sit well with their mom and dad. When the “child” tried to explain the truth of the situation, the mom shot back that she was the truth and nothing else mattered!

Stop Trying To Convert People

Many families around the world commit to a certain belief system. While common, it’s also not uncommon for some kids to grow up and find their own beliefs as they enter adulthood. Some of them may even decide to forgo religion entirely and live an atheist life. Fantastic as long as everyone’s happy with their choices. Who are we, or anyone else, to judge?

reddit by u/mstheman34

According to this mom, she and the Lord will be the judgment of this person. While her son remained as respectful as he could, this parent couldn’t get it through their head that they don’t want to be preached to! Sometimes, the best thing a child can do is let the preaching go to the spam folder.

You Were Only Punched Once

Geeze, way to make an incident of abuse into something as big and dramatic as…an incident of abuse. No parent, in any timeline on any planet, has the right to strike a child. Spanking is already abuse (regardless of what others say), but straight-up punching anyone, especially a child? That’s not discipline.

reddit

That’s a court case that should have locked this “adult” up for a long time. Good for this person for surviving her mother and for choosing the calmer and saner option presented to her. If they ever have kids, be sure to never let them visit Grandma. Protect yourself at all costs and do what is right for your family!

Grandma Doesn’t Always Give Great Gifts…

Not all grandparents have great relationships with their grandkids. Sometimes it can be tough to connect or see eye to eye with someone a full generation removed from your own. However, when the family is involved, most people let their love supersede that and do their best to be part of their grandkids’ lives. Then there’s this person. One of the first rules of being a grandparent should probably be to not use profanity to describe your grandchild.

Reddit by u/catamaranbatman

Just because you liked dolls and stuff as a kid doesn’t mean they would. Instead of resorting to name-calling, why not see that there’s something they like over whatever you want to play with. The level of immaturity here is ridiculous. Sometimes it’s best to receive no presents at all instead of one from someone like this.

Threats Won’t Get You Anywhere

We’re absolutely shocked that a parent would talk to their child like this. It sounds a lot more like a schoolyard bully than the person who’s supposed to support and nurture you. No one deserves to be spoken to like this, especially over something like money. Since when does a child need to be expected to buy their dad a car?

Reddit by u/BlueJaywalkers

The ironic part is the father calling their kid a coward when they’re the one acting like an immature child. The fact he’s using Christmas to justify his actions is even worse. This is definitely not in the Christmas spirit, and we can imagine he’ll be spending his holidays alone for a long time.

Intimidating Your Son With Police

It’s hard to imagine what people with toxic fathers go through every day. What we see here is just a small taste of what this kid must be going through regularly. This dad probably has a very short temper and eyesight if he was willing to call the police on his kid after missing the message where he specifically told him where he was.

Reddit by u/SheriffMork

For starters, it seems like this dad is always annoyed at something. Nothing is ever good enough for him and he acts like everybody is out to get him. It seems like he doesn’t care about his kid as much as he cares about the car. It’s also never a good sign when someone is being manipulative and combative.

Dad Is A Real-Life Monster

You’d think these messages were sent by a movie villain, but it’s actually this person’s father. We didn’t think people actually talked like this in real life! It’s shocking to think someone would be this vindictive, especially when it comes to their own child. We think these texts are reason enough to get a restraining order.

Reddit

We can’t imagine the frame of mind someone would have to be in to send these. We thought parents have unconditional love for their children, yet this guy seems to be hellbent on making his kid’s life a living nightmare. He needs something more productive to do with his life ASAP.

It’s Complicated

Few things are more complicated than the stories behind Facebook’s “It’s Complicated” category for relationships. We may not know how messy this romantic relationship is, but we certainly got a lot of different information from the kid. We’re not sure if the father is going to unfriend his child over these comments, but opinions about this guy are sure to change.

Reddit by u/ExLaxMarksTheSpot

This is a sad story, but we’re glad the kid had the courage to say this in public. It’s easy to present a side of ourselves on social media that we don’t want others to see. This guy was clearly using his status to cover some pretty vile stuff, and we’re glad the kid brought it to light.

If It’s Not One Problem, It’s Your Mother

We feel bad for this young woman, but we’re glad she can stand up for herself. A lot of people don’t like social media drama. But let’s face it, family conflict is great as long as you’re a spectator of it. This looks like something out of a movie, but we think yes, the mother is really this melodramatic.

Reddit by u/lairofnexus

We aren’t psychiatrists and can’t diagnose people with narcissistic personality disorder, but this mother seems to fit the description. Calling a child “ungrateful” is such a cliche, but barging in on them at work? In fact, she’s encouraging her boss to fire her! Is she assuming the cops would be on her side? This daughter is wise to stay away. She should get a restraining order.

Teach Your Parents Well

True, kids should respect their parents. This doesn’t mean they have the right to correct them if they’re publicly spreading misinformation. This son dared to fix his mother’s story of warning people against the MMR vaccine. Although there was a grain of truth, the son was able to clarify how it’s way more complicated.

u/HeyGirlLemmePikachu

Parents can feel traumatized when something goes wrong with their kids. However, this mother might be excessively alarmed and is using her son as a cautionary tale without his permission. We’re glad he spoke up and added crucial details so readers can make an informed choice about health procedures. Getting it right from the source is important.

Deadbeat Dad

We’re sure this guy doesn’t mention his kids much. There’s a good reason for it. Maybe he’s afraid someone is going to find out what kind of parent he truly was and put an end to his sob story. We’re aware parental alienation happens and isn’t a laughing matter. However, this guy assumes people will believe his fake story and gets a nasty surprise.

Reddit by u/jokerlovesharleen

We think he probably really did forget that his daughter was on his friend list. The post makes it seem as if he forgot what she looks like. He tries to blame her mother for that, but the daughter tells the entire story. We think we know which side to believe and it isn’t the dads. His excuses are likely to fall on deaf ears from now on.

Neither a Borrower Nor a Lender Be

One of the many famous lines in Shakespeare’s Hamlet is “neither a borrower nor a lender be.” This person seems to believe this 100%. Except there’s one problem–they don’t realize they’re contradicting themselves. What is so funny about this is how serious these people seem to be. Yet they have no idea and think they can have it both ways.

Reddit by u/thekuecker

Even without the revelatory comment, it’s clear this guy is not being honest with himself. He claims to have made his own way and doesn’t owe anyone and yet he says, “I have had to pay my debt.” This isn’t even true. According to the kid’s comment, he hasn’t paid his debts.

Say It Again But Louder

This text conversation shows the negative impact of a temper tantrum on family relationships. The mother’s outburst and threat to get rid of everything is manipulative and demonstrates a lack of respect for her daughter’s belongings. The daughter’s response is practical, suggesting that her mother put everything in a box until she can arrange to pick it up, but it does not address the underlying issue of her mother’s behavior.

reddit by u/EropaSmols

While it is important to listen to family members and try to understand their emotions, it is also crucial to set boundaries and hold people accountable for their actions. In this situation, the daughter’s unwillingness to show sympathy to her mother’s temper tantrum is justified, and it is important to prioritize her own emotional well-being and boundaries.

Have an Unmerry Christmas, Dad

There’s a lot to consider before you and your partner decide to have kids. We’re not just talking about what school you want your kid to go to, or how you discipline them. When you make the choice to have kids you have to accept they’re going to grow up and become their own individuals.

Reddit by u/Zealousideal_Care807

If you’re not going to be okay with them living their authentic life because it makes you uncomfortable, consider not having children. This daughter was kind enough to reach out on Christmas to make amends only for her dad to ruin that completely. We’re sure that going off on him was the best Christmas gift she could have gotten.

The Only Problem Here is You

If you’re having a hard time with your role as a parent, there are lots of things you can do. You can turn to your partner, your parents, a therapist, or the internet. If you decide to leave your children or treat them poorly, don’t expect them to let you back into their lives once you’ve gotten your act together.

Reddit by u/quietasahippo

They’re especially not going to want anything to do with you if you promote the idea that parents should beat their children. There might have been some hope if he hadn’t posted this, but it just goes to show he hasn’t changed one bit. We’re sure his kids got a laugh out of this comment.

Try the Truth Next Time

If you’re going to be an absent or inattentive father you lose the right to complain about the future generation on your annual Facebook rant. Typically, when people post things like this it’s a cover for something they’re trying to hide. Thankfully, his daughters were there in the comment section to bring all their father’s antics to light.

imgur

We feel terrible for these girls, but it looks like they made the best out of a bad situation. Instead of being proud of his daughters and commending them for making something of their lives without a father figure, he tried bringing them down. We hope this lives on his social media for years to come so people can see what kind of man he really is.

Ask and You Shall Receive

Child support is a touchy subject for parents who share custody. For reasons that remain unknown, a lot of people who are ordered to pay child support don’t think it’s necessary. This user saw their uncle post this and knew they had to say something about their own dad. We’re glad that they took a stand for their mom who clearly worked hard to raise her kid.

We see these types of posts bashing moms all too often, so it’s refreshing to see this kid supporting their mom for a change. If you have a kid you have to help pay for that kid, it’s as simple as that. If all children were like this user maybe the world would be a better place and we’d see fewer posts bashing single moms.

Mind Your Own Business

Not everyone has a close relationship with their parents. It’s not like these kids don’t want to tell their parents everything, but rather their parents don’t know how to handle a lot of the stress. It stresses a lot of parents out when their kids become sexually active. Simply because you don’t want your kid to do something doesn’t mean they’re going to stop.

This daughter accidentally synced her calendar with her mom’s and she found out her daughter was using birth control. We’d expect most parents to be happy their kid was taking precautions. We might understand the frustration if she was a minor, but she’s a full-grown adult who can make her own decisions.

A Mom’s Conditional Love

This conversation just plain sad. The kid is trying to express a need for love and acceptance, but the mom isn’t hearing it. Instead, she tells the kid that they need God, which is a pretty messed up response. When the kid says they need a mom, the mom threatens to cut them off if they don’t fit her mold. It’s like she cares more about control than love.

The kid’s response is spot on – they can’t change who they are, and they just want to be accepted. But the mom can’t seem to understand that. It’s frustrating and heartbreaking to see a parent fail to support and love their child unconditionally. This conversation is a stark reminder of the damage that toxic relationships can cause, and the importance of healthy family dynamics.

Who Really Needs Therapy Here?

This conversation between a mom and child is a hot mess. The child asks the mom to stop texting and calling, but the mom isn’t having it and insists her kid needs need therapy. But her kid insists that they’re not interested in reconnecting and that she needs to change her mindset about their past. Mom responds with some fake-sounding love, but the child is straight-up honest and tells her that the only reason they haven’t blocked her number is to hear about their late Nana.

At the end of the day, the kid asserts that their mom needs therapy for herself, not for the both of them, because the mom is the parent and the child is the child. They’re standing up for themselves and not putting up with the mom’s controlling behavior.

Don’t Breathe Bleach

The person is beyond pissed that their parent doesn’t read warning labels and thinks Tik Tok is a joke for medical advice. They’re especially worried about bleach, which can be seriously harmful. Despite the parent’s apology and asking them to chill, the kid keeps asserting themselves. When it comes to a serious subject like health it can be dangerous to back down.

We’re glad they didn’t back down or give their parent any leverage. They repeat that bleach is dangerous and refuse to let their parent use it in their living space. It’s a sad state of affairs when a kid has more common sense than their parents.

Standing Up For Her Sister And Herself

The girl is standing up for her sister and herself, and we commend her for it. She confronts her mom, pointing out that she had yelled at her sister, called her names, and accused her of ruining her life. But the mom is still convinced that her kids are in the wrong. By the end of this exchange, the daughter is beyond done with her mom’s behavior and decides to stay out for the night, telling her mom to call the police if she wants to.

The daughter’s frustration with her mom’s toxic behavior is crystal clear. She even reminds her mom of past investigations by social workers. Her decision to stand up to her mom’s behavior and assert her own boundaries is an important lesson in self-care and setting healthy limits.

Challenging Dad’s Beliefs

This child showed a lot of courage by confronting their dad about an insulting TikTok video he sent. They respectfully explained that the video made fun of trans people and people who are hesitant to get vaccinated, which is important to protect vulnerable individuals, like grandma and grandpa. They also mentioned that they have friends who are trans and the video hurt them. It’s not easy to stand up to a parent, but this child showed maturity and empathy.

This situation reminds us that it’s not acceptable to be cruel to people or mock them for things they cannot control. It’s important to respect others, especially those who may be marginalized or vulnerable.
