Delorean was a one hit wonder that flopped spectacularly. John Delorean, a Former GM executive started the company with millions from the British government as well as several celebrities including Johnny Carson. The first vehicles rolled off the company’s assembly line in 1981, but with a selling price of $25,000, it was out of the price range of most people.

With less than 9,000 of the iconic gull-wing vehicles produced, the company would shut its doors in 1982. Interestingly, the day the company announced its closure, the owner was accused of trafficking charges, which were later determined to be unfounded.
