Iconic Brands That No Longer Exist

Posted by Josh

Circuit City

Founded in 1949, Circuit City was one of the pioneers of advertising electronic devices like televisions and stereos. In the 1990s, the company tried to pivot and try the idea of mass car retailing they called “CarMax,” which was a big lot inventory of used vehicles. Though the concept was a hit with customers, a number of important executives and management staff left during this time, which would prove its undoing.

Circuit City

As their main competitor Best Buy took off, Circuit City wasn’t able to compete, and in a poorly-planned attempt to do so, fired over 3000 of their most experienced sales staff. With better products and customer service, Circuit City couldn’t compete, and would close officially in 2008.
