One of the most recognizable brands in history, from 1927 until its ultimate demise in 1991, Pan Am Airlines was the largest international commercial flight carrier in the world. The Lockerbie bombing over Lockerbie, Scotland was a big contributor to the company’s demise, which killed all 259 people on board. A rise in fuel prices, and a reduced demand for air travel because of the Gulf War was curtains for the company, as it ceased operations officially in December 1991.
