If you happened to watch the HBO miniseries, you might remember a very prominent character, Ulana Khomyuk. While she may have never existed in real life, her presence is a very special one. Ulana represents a composition of scientists from the Chernobyl nuclear plant, many of whom were women.

While the technology used in Chernobyl may not have been up to par with American standards, they were definitely ahead of the game when it came to gender equality. Women had a huge role in the U.S.S.R, being top workers in science and medical fields. You go, girls!
