Facts We May Not Know About Chernobyl Disaster
Chernobyl’s First Barrier
After the Chernobyl incident, specialized workers, called liquidators, went in to seal the nuclear plant in a metal sarcophagus to prevent the radiation from getting out. However, what they built had the potential to be extremely dangerous because it was never sealed properly enough to withstand everyday weather conditions. It was made hastily, and no one ever expect this to be a permanent solution.

If this structure were to collapse, it would send irradiated dust into the air and be an international disaster; the likes of which we would never recover from.
