Facts We May Not Know About Chernobyl Disaster
Stray Pets
During the evacuation process in the cities surrounding the Chernobyl nuclear site, people weren’t allowed to take their pets along with them. Authorities would eventually go in and hunt the animals, as they became an extreme hazard to spreading radiation. Some of the animals survived, but they and their offspring, as well as all the wildlife in the area, have life expectancies much shorter than that of unirradiated animals.

Today, you can find wild dogs roaming the areas that their ancestors were abandoned in.
