Facts We May Not Know About Chernobyl Disaster

Posted by Coby

The Kopachi Ruins

The Red Forest wasn’t the only thing to get bulldozed. As an experiment, the town of Kopachi—which was extremely irradiated after the incident—was plowed to the ground and then returned to the soil. The only thing remaining is a kindergarten and one other brick building. What the government didn’t realize, however, was that burying radioactive material in the ground actually helped to spread the radioactivity.

It seeped into the soil and eventually into the water surrounding the town. It has since become a great destination for disaster photographers, as it’s laden with mounds of buried buildings and hazard signs.
