It is exceptionally clear because their are so few contaminants to cause the light to scatter, The light casts down through cracks in the ice and holes made by seals like streetlights, casting an unearthly glow over the underwater landscape.

The landscape too is totally breathtaking, but unlike the mostly barren ice above, the world below is a spectacular underwater landscape, full of life and countless species, many not found anywhere else in the world.
