The Water is Freezing! Literally.
A ton of planning went into these dives, as the conditions outside are slightly less than ideal. And the situation in the water isn’t necessarily much better, Water’s freezing point is 32 degrees Fahrenheit, and the Antarctic waters are below 29 degrees’ the only reason that it remains a liquid is that it is salt water.

If they were to dive without dry suits and their other essential equipment, they would be dead in 10 minutes. But this equipment still only gave them up to 5 hours.
