Them: Where does the saying “lit up like a Christmas tree” come from?

You: Christmas lights have been a huge fixture to the holiday with people hanging them just about anywhere from their homes, trees, sweaters, and even beards.

It all started with none other than Thomas Edison back in 1880, who had secured a patent for his incandescent light bulb, and decided to illuminate the outside of his laboratory with them to introduce his new invention and get people in the holiday spirit. Since the lights have been put on strings and have been made cheaper, people have traded in their dangerous Christmas tree candles ever since.
