Johnny was married four times, but he only had children with his first wife. The two had three sons and one of them, Rick, had some mental health issues. Rick Carson was hospitalized in a hospital for the mentally ill. Johnny decided to turn his back on his son and wasn’t a supportive father at all. He refused to visit Rick in the mental hospital. The strained relationship between the two probably didn’t help Rick and in 1991 he eventually killed himself by driving down an embankment.
