When Bob Hope got older he started losing both his eyesight and his hearing. Johnny Carson didn’t seem to have much compassion for Bob and his condition and didn’t like having him on the show.
You can defend Carson calming it is hard to interview someone who has trouble seeing and hearing but it’s not fair or tolerant when it comes to dealing with someone’s disability. One of the show’s writers even claimed Carson said, if he ever finds himself in Hope’s situation, he wants to be shot. Not sure how to respond to that.
