He’s a Nice Guy, Really!

Notorious gangster and Chicago icon Al Capone, besides his career of crime, also took his own stab at philanthropy.

As the Great Depression spiraled downward, many people were out of work, out of money, out of food, and out of time.

He’s a Nice Guy, Really!

In one of his more magnanimous gestures, he opened up one of the first soup kitchens to offer free food to the poor and unemployed.

Over the course of its operations, it served hot meals to over 120,000 people, and would continue to stand until 2 decades after the Depression ended.
