Though the Depression affected millions, it wasn’t all encompassing. Nearly 40% of America was relatively unscathed by the economic downturn, though it is often described as country-wide.

What’s more, there were a number of people who were able to make a great deal of money during the time.

One of these men was John F. Kennedy’s father, Joseph P., managed to create an enormous fortune from the real estate market, along with a number of other ventures.

Without this boon, the Kennedy’s would not have been able to finance John’s successful presidential campaign.
