The roaring 20s and the economic boom that happened after World War I in the United States brought to households everywhere appliances, cars, and other commodities that were hitherto unavailable to them.
But they bought most of these items on credit, and during that time there was a huge disparity in wealth, with the rich 0.1% controlling over 42% of the country’s total income.

This along with the rising cost and production of goods, along with mounting personal debt for the everyday man, culminated in the stock market crash in 1929, marking the start of the Great Depression.
