The Funniest Messages Ever Written on Cakes
There are so many occasions made better by cake. Whether you’re celebrating a birthday, anniversary, or a going away party, you’re likely to get a slice of this baked dessert. People love customizing these confections to suit the occasion. Usually, you’ll spot “Happy Birthday Sarah!” or “We’ll Miss You!” written in frosting, but there are a few more creative ideas people have come up with. These cakes are anything but generic, with messages that range from passive-aggressive to brutally honest. It turns out you can say virtually anything as long as it’s iced onto a dessert!
We’ve collected the funniest cake messages ever ordered, you’d never catch these in a bakery window!
64. Giving the Office Intern a Sweet Send Off
Now, this is a much nicer way of sending a worker off on their way, at least this one has Batman AND Hannah Montana incorporated into the design. What does Hannah Montana have to do with Batman? Who knows, maybe those are Noah’s two favorite fictional characters. Or maybe it was the only candle and cake design Human Resources was able to get their hands on.
Noah was apparently an intern at this company, and it seems that he didn’t live up to expectations. Or rather, he really managed to live up to the low expectations, so much so that the sentiment needed to be expressed on a cake. Congrats, Noah! Here’s to hoping you improve in your next position.
63. This is Why You Don’t Leave Things for the Last Minute
This picture teaches us how important it is not to leave things for the last minute, whether you’re studying for an exam, writing an essay, or even baking a cake! Looks like this person was a major procrastinator and didn’t get around to starting this task until very, very late at night. But we have to admit, for a cake baked at the last minute, it looks like this turned out pretty good.
It’s certainly better than what most people would be able to whip up in a short amount of time. Now the final test is to cut it open. If your knife ends up hitting the hard surface of cardboard disguised with icing then you KNOW this cake was made in 20 minutes!
62. A Harsh and Straightforward Message
If there was ever a cake that could put a frown on someone’s face instead of a smile it would have to be this one. For starters, this is a pretty melancholy message to digest. The person who iced this cake certainly didn’t mince words, they cut right to the chase! Maybe the message is blunt because the cake is relatively small.
But then again, there really isn’t a nice way to convey a message like this, even if you had more words to say it in. I’m not entirely sure what kind of occasion would warrant a cake with that message, but at the very least the recipient gets a whole cake to munch on.
61. Maybe Google the Spelling Next Time
It looks like Alex and James are a couple of excellent academic achievers, though we don’t know if we can say the same for the person who decorated this cake! For those who don’t know, Magna Cum Laude is an honor given to a select number of high achievers. We think whoever did the icing here most likely did not run the message through spell-check.
In any case, this is still a pretty great achievement to celebrate, so it shouldn’t matter TOO much that the cake is a little botched. We’re sure Alex and James are still very happy about their “Maga Kum Latte”, even if their cake doesn’t necessarily reflect their level of academic intelligence.
60. The Best Way to Dump Someone?
What’s the best way to break some bad news to someone? Let’s say, the news that you no longer want to be in a relationship with them. Well, it always helps to have a distraction, and what could be a better diversion tactic than a cake? If you’re delivering a message about wanting to dump someone, they will probably feel the need to impulsively eat something sweet anyway.
That’s why cake makes the perfect messenger for a breakup! If your former loved one is in tears they will be able to pacify themselves with mouthful after mouthful of delicious cake. This has got to be the most thoughtful way to break this kind of bad news.
59. When You Can’t Afford to Replace the Game
As we already know, cakes aren’t only given in the case of a celebration, they can also be used as a way to say sorry. Whether you’re apologizing for saying terrible things during Mario Kart or even committing infidelity. In this case, it looks like this person is apologizing for breaking a favorite game. It would be pretty hard for us to stay mad if we received a cake that was lined with peanut butter cups.
But maybe the person this was given to is more of a hardcore gamer. As tasty as this cake might look, the person receiving it might have been expecting their game to be replaced instead. But it’s the thought that counts, right?
58. Tiger King Doesn’t Look So Happy
If you ask any kid what kind of birthday dessert they want, most likely they’ll ask for a cake in the shape of their favorite fictional character. However, this cake is far from Mickey Mouse or Bugs Bunny, it’s none other than the Tiger King himself. We know this was a Netflix favorite for people to binge, but we can’t imagine who would want Joe Exotic’s head for dessert!
Not only is the choice of the Tiger King a bit bizarre for a custom cake, but the result is also far from stellar. He doesn’t look too happy to be turned into a dessert, plus his expression is thoroughly unappetizing. Maybe it’s a strategy to make sure the guests leave the party early.
57. Taking It Literally
When giving instructions to a baker over the phone, you have to be as specific and direct as possible about what you’d like the finished product to look like. This customer probably thought their instructions to write happy birthday on two cakes weren’t too challenging. But, unfortunately, they couldn’t have been more wrong. Next time, they’ll probably submit two separate cake requests.
This baker took the instructions “write happy birthday on both” a bit too literally, and provided two cakes that spelled out part of the instructions. A pretty embarrassing way to mess up cake decorating. However, when you look on the bright side, this is a pretty funny result, even if it wasn’t what the customer was expecting.
56. Sorry For The Chore I Avoid
We are almost 100% that whoever ordered this cake is married. Many married couples have repeated arguments about the household tasks that neither party wants to take on. Whether it’s taking out the trash, emptying the dishwasher, or folding laundry, usually there’s a specific chore that one partner finds themselves constantly doing.
In this case, it seems that the guilty party never changes the filter in the Britta water filter. It’s a task that should only take a few seconds, but this person has been dodging it at every turn. So, as an apology to their fed-up spouse, they came up with this unique cake. But it would’ve taken far less effort to just refill the filter, though!
55. Definitely Not Feeling Blue
They say that purple is the color of royalty, maybe that’s why this person requested it as their desired shade of frosting. Unfortunately, it looks like the person taking their order was not paying very much attention, or they’re just not the sharpest tool in the shed. Or perhaps the baker has a strong dislike for the color purple and sabotaged the cake on purpose?
Whoever was hoping for purple lettering on their cake is going to be pretty disappointed to find their message written in blue. At least the glitter in the border is purple, that’s got to be some kind of consolation at least. After ruining an order this badly, we’re guessing this bakery just lost one customer for good.
54. Better Late Than Never
Cakes that read “It’s a boy!” or “It’s a girl” are common things to find at a baby shower for an expecting mother. But this young adult’s friends decided to turn the tables on the usual procedure, by getting her such a cake just about a quarter-century later than usual. It really flips the expectations of the people at the party.
They were probably feeling pretty confused once the cake was brought out, thinking that they might need to prepare for a pregnancy announcement they weren’t expecting. Only after reading the full message would they realize it was just a gag. This is a pretty creative message for a birthday cake, it definitely beats the standard generic messages you get on such desserts.
53. When Your Cake is Having an Intervention with You
This cake order was placed at two o’clock in the morning, and the message definitely seems to be fitting! We just can’t imagine someone being so drunk that they ordered this, but still sober enough to place a cake order properly, that’s got to be some kind of talent. It’s a wonder this cake wasn’t immediately consumed in a drunken haze upon delivery.
The baked good indicates that the person who ordered it makes poor choices, but we don’t think ordering a cake is ever a poor choice. In fact, we don’t think there is ever a bad time to order a cake. The text should be rewritten as “You make excellent and delicious choices when you’re drunk”.
52. Annual Occasion
The English language is an interesting thing, sometimes getting just one letter off can change the meaning of an entire sentence. In this case, a relatively minor typo took this cake’s phrase to a totally different place than the customer had intended. As you probably guessed, this cake was supposed to read “Happy birthday,” but instead reads “happy bath-day.”
This pretty much implies that the recipient of the cake only bathes once a year, which is a pretty big screw-up We don’t think you’d want to be presented with something like this on your special day, the person who bought it will probably end up requesting a refund. That or they were so pressed for time they just brought it to the party and hoped for the best!
51. The Message Here is Unclear
This cake seems to be sending a mixed message, though maybe this was just a way to soften the blow of calling this ex-employee a “quitter”. Leaving a job can be messy, especially if you leave at a time of high pressure for the company. It looks like this person’s coworkers weren’t too thrilled with their decision to quit, and are now getting out their aggression in dessert form.
It also looks like this cake is covered in the most disgusting substance on Earth; fondant. That’s how you know their coworkers really didn’t like them, they purposely made the cake taste worse by covering it in that horrible tasting stuff. Hopefully, the inside of the cake was okay, otherwise, there are no redeeming qualities to this cake.
50. A Very Literal Birthday Message
Sometimes writing “Happy Birthday” on a cake can feel a little bit boring or repetitive. Why not spice up a plain old birthday message with a detailed description of what a birthday is all about? There’s nothing like celebrating the day of your birth with the cold, hard anatomical facts! Though it might reduce everyone’s appetite for dessert pretty quickly.
Our favorite part of this cake is the little sunglasses on the icing baby. Seems to imply that whoever the cake is for must’ve been one super cool infant. Though I doubt they would have literally been born with sunglasses. If your child is born with any type of eyewear please see an OBGYN as soon as possible.
49. “With a Cap on Her Head”
This is one pretty impressive mix-up. Apparently, whoever was placing the order for Laura’s graduation cake had asked for a “cap” on her head. Any normal person who got this request would correctly assume that they wanted the traditional graduation ceremony cap. But apparently, the person on the phone misheard and came to a pretty ridiculous conclusion. Instead of “cap”, they heard “cat”.
The result is in the picture before you. We can’t imagine what Laura must’ve been thinking when she was presented with this on graduation day. Hopefully, her parents were able to explain the whole story to her. The cat isn’t even drawn very well, which might indicate that this didn’t come from the greatest bakery in town.
48. A Minimalist Cake
We guess that whoever ordered this cake wanted a minimalist design. However, it seems like there was some kind of confusion when placing the order over the phone. Here’s how we imagine the conversation went:
“Hello I would like to order a cake”
“And what would you like us to write on the cake?”
“Nothing.”
And that’s how they wound up with the dessert you see below.
You have to admit that it’s a pretty funny mishap, it almost feels as though the cake is delivering an ominous message. Of all the misunderstood messages I’ve seen on cakes, we think this one, for lack of a better term, it takes the cake! I might just order all my cakes like this from now on.
47. Their Cake Requirements are Simple
Sometimes you have to be brutally honest when the cake decorator asks, “What message would you like the cake to have?”. Some people just like the cake for the icing and the icing alone. Candles? Don’t need them. If you ask them what flavored cake they like best, they’ll simply answer that they don’t care just so long as it’s frosted. When cutting the cake you better make sure to give this person a frosted flower, otherwise, they might kick up a fit!
Thankfully this dessert is covered in them, just as an icing fanatic would want. However, we think that for someone who only really likes cake for the icing, this cake must be distressingly bare. Aside from the flowers, it’s looking a bit dry.
46. When Your Cake Pranks You
You might have been so excited to receive a homemade cake that it might take you a moment to realize that you’ve been pranked. Once you’ve taken a closer look at the text you will have discovered that you’ve just been Rick Roll’d! Although, does it really count as a Rick Roll if you’re reading the lyrics as opposed to watching the video…?
It doesn’t really matter, the only important thing here is that you have a cake. Internet pranks or not, it doesn’t take away from the fact that frosting looks delectable. Hopefully, it tastes just as good as the pun at the end of the text. We only wonder what kind of occasion this cake was meant for.
45. A Special Occasion
A person’s wedding is usually the most important day of their lives, and (hopefully) an occasion that only happens once. Because of this, many couples go crazy trying to make sure that their big day is perfect, right down to the tiniest detail. The wedding cake is one of the central features of the celebration, and this one might be a little bit on the simple side but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t come out better than it did.
Whoever’s job it was to choose the bakery to order the cake from made a very poor decision. Unless the engaged couple fell for each other over their mutual love of gardening, we’re guessing they’re not going to be pleased with this cake.
44. This Cake Predicts the Future
It seems like Kara might have a reputation amongst her friends as a party animal. That is if this depiction of her passed out drunk has been a common occurrence in the past. It would be really ironic if she was in the same compromising position when the cake was brought out. Your friends tend to know you best, but then again they’re also the ones who like to mess with you most!
Hopefully, she hasn’t been this wasted before, as she is only just turning twenty-one. Maybe the cake is a representation of what her friends are predicting will happen after a night of drinking (as is the tradition at this particular birthday). At least she’ll be surrounded by friends if this scene does come true!
43. Game Day Fail
Super Bowl Sunday is pretty much a national holiday in America, and for good reason, it’s basically Thanksgiving 2.0. You gather your family and friends together for a bunch of tasty snacks and possibly also a barbecue. This Twitter user decided to order a cake to mark the special occasion, but all did not go as planned.
Since it’s the biggest game of the year, it makes sense that the cake would include a football theme. This customer ordered a cake to read “San Fran vs. Kansas City,” and it’s clear that the baker ended up taking the note of “include helmets” way too literally. The game-day crowd probably got a good chuckle of it at the very least.
42. The Sincerest of Apologies, in Cake Form
A cake is a great way to apologize to someone. After all, how can you be mad at someone once you’ve been presented with a sweet and delicious dessert? This person apparently had a lot to apologize for, and they made sure to include all their misdeeds in the iced message. We don’t even want to know what kind of pure chaos went on that resulted in this person projectile vomiting, all over an apartment AND a cat no less!
Sounds like a pretty wild night on the part of the person handing over this cake, we’d be pretty upset if this had happened to us. Hope they cleaned it up after the projectile vomiting, otherwise, a cake might not be enough to apologize.
41. A Very Honest Cake
Look, sometimes there’s no real reason to beat around the bush. It seems like this person just wanted to deliver their cake to the person they baked it for and didn’t want to waste any time decorating it. And to be fair, it’s better to be upfront and honest rather than attempt something you’re not familiar with. The result of trying out a complicated design could wind up being way worse than a blunt message like this.
Though we think the message here makes the cake look a little bit insecure. Don’t feel too bad, cake. You’re not THAT ugly. And after all, when it comes to delicious baked goods, taste means a whole lot more than appearance!
40. Not a Sprinkle in Sight
Whoever placed the order for this cake must have been very enthusiastic. We assume the message that ended up on this cake was originally written in an email. Either the cake designer was too dense to understand that they wanted stars and sprinkles as a design, or they just weren’t capable of pulling it off. That’s definitely one way to get around the fact you’re lacking in the icing department.
It’s got to be a bummer for the person who ordered this, they ended up with a plain cake instead of the design they were so excited for. There isn’t a sprinkle to be found on this pretty boring chocolate cake. At the very least, the baker included a tiny rose in the corner, that’s gotta count for something.
39. A Birthday Cake from the Addam’s Family
Most people find their birthday to be an occasion for celebration, but not everyone. It’s unclear as to who had the idea for this downer birthday message, but whoever chose it might want to seek therapy. There’s a fine line between being realistic and being a pessimist. The one topic you probably don’t want to bring up at a birthday party (or any party for that matter) is death.
That cake does look pretty realistic though. If there’s ever a time you have to bring up death to someone then we guess it’s a good idea to have a delicious chocolate cake around. That is unless they have some kind of heart condition or diabetes, then you might be tempting fate.
38. When the Baker Takes Instructions Too Literally
Now, this could have ended up being a pretty average cake that read “Happy Birthday Heather and Susan”. But whoever took the order for this cake may have trouble with taking directions. Or rather, they take directions so literally that they completely messed things up. It must be some kind of special skill to take that kind of request that literally, and whoever frosted this cake definitely has it.
At the very least, the cake looks pretty delicious, and that’s the most important part, right? Hopefully Heather and Susan are happy enough with the end result.
37. A Very Intense Confession of Love
Someone wanted to give their loved one a romantic gift, along with a romantic message. They might not be Shakespeare, but they at least found an analogy that expresses their intense love. “I love you” just wasn’t going to cut it, and something like “You Are My Sunshine” was simply too generic. But if this is really how they feel about their partner then their love might even be a little TOO intense.
If you’re not in touch with pop culture, Kayne West is a rapper who is very much in love with himself. In fact, he is probably more in love with himself than anyone is in love with anyone else. What a romantic message for a cake!
36. Being Greeted by the New Roommates
Moving into a new apartment with roommates can be a stressful time. You hope that you will get along with the new people you’ll be living with, but unfortunately, that isn’t always the case. Take this guy, for example, he just moved into his girlfriend’s apartment and was presented with this cake. Needless to say, we don’t think anyone would want this to be the first thing they saw when moving into a new place.
The message on the cake was not the warmest or the most welcoming. That is unless this was made in jest, in which case the roommate should definitely provide some clarification. But even if it was meant seriously, he still has a cake to make him feel better!
35. A Less Typical Reason for Celebration
Cakes really can be used for any and all occasions, not just birthdays or anniversaries. You could even order a custom made cake for someone who was just released from prison! After spending time in the slammer and munching on inmate fare, this person is probably pretty stoked to be presented with a chocolate cake. That and, of course, to regain their freedom in society, that’s definitely a little more exciting than the cake.
This was probably an unusual request for the bakery to receive, I wonder how the icing person felt preparing this one. But thinking back on all the other cakes on this list, there are definitely weirder things that have been iced onto these desserts.
34. Coming Out in the Sweetest Way Possible
Coming out can be a life-changing experience for anyone, and sometimes it helps to do so with a little bit of humor. Of course, a delicious frosted cake can’t hurt when you’re breaking the news, especially if you’re worried about it not being taken well. We have to give props to this person for being bold and funny at the same time for this cake’s message.
We can assume that they were pretty comfortable people they were coming out to already, that’s probably why they chose this unique method of communication. The only thing that would make this occasion better would be if the cake was had rainbow layers on the inside when you cut it open.
33. Getting Your Work References as Dessert
There are a few things that need to be put in order when leaving a job. You’ll probably need to give two weeks’ notice before you stop showing up to the office, but more importantly, you’ll want to get some references from your managers as well. Usually, these references can be given in the form of a letter, or maybe a LinkedIn endorsement.
But this manager clearly went a very unorthodox route by providing their referring in the form of dessert! It seems like this particular worker wasn’t the best on the job, and as a result, was not given a real reference. Kind of passive-aggressive, but also very funny. Funny for everyone who isn’t this ex-employee anyway.
32. A Simple Message that Gets the Point Across
It can be a little bit awkward when you’re celebrating someone’s accomplishment while another person has failed to achieve the same thing. That’s especially true when it comes to siblings, and even more awkward when the siblings are triplets! This dad came up with a clever solution for celebrating their child’s accomplishment, without leaving out the two other kids.
Two sad faces for the siblings who failed their driving test, and one happy face for the sibling who passed. It’s so simple the dad could have made it himself (and probably did). Even though this chocolate confection looks pretty good, we’re guessing that the two siblings who failed their driving test are still feeling a bit bitter.
31. The Most Confusing Cake Message Ever
Out of all the cakes on this list, this is the one that might have the most unusual and confusing message. It’s so short but still manages to raise a number of questions. Who sent this message? And who was the recipient? How are you supposed to interpret “GO AWAY”, along with an angry face, written on what looks like a relatively pricey cake?
Why do they want this person to go away, and where are they going away from? Is this an annoying roommate, or maybe a difficult romantic partner they want to break up with? Maybe the cake was intended to confuse the person it’s being presented to? So many questions, so few answers, but still so much dessert.
30. “Here’s the image for the Cake!”
Clearly, there was a communication error that occurred between the customer and the bakery. This person came to the patisserie with a USB drive and told the baker that it had the image for the cake. But it seems that whoever’s job it was to decorate the cake thought the USB drive WAS the image itself, and never thought that it might contain the file for the actual image.
What you see before you is the final result of that mixup. To be fair, that is a pretty clear depiction of that USB stick, you can’t fault them for the quality! And who knows, maybe the cake will be so delicious that the people eating it will forget all about the strange design.
29. Better Watch Your Back when the MIL is Around!
Now, we have no way of knowing what the original message on this cake was. Maybe it was something upbeat and happy, like a birthday or anniversary cake. But it looks like the slice this person received was a little less than optimistic than the rest of the dessert. And to receive that slice from your mother-in-law…well, you might want to watch what you eat and drink at her house from now on!
Hopefully, this isn’t a subtle message being served to this person, and their mother-in-law isn’t actually planning on ending their life. Maybe it would be a good idea to let everyone else get a taste of this cake before taking a bite out of it.
28. A Sweet Valentine’s Day Message
Valentine’s Day is a time where people want to express how much they appreciate their loved ones. However, there are some people who don’t like to get too mushy about it. It seems like whoever ordered this cake would be one of those people. It’s a pretty funny message to read on a cake, and hopefully, their other half has the sense of humor to appreciate it. Otherwise, they might end up getting the cold shoulder for a while.
The cake looks pretty good too. A cookie base with chocolate frosted flowers around the border? Yes, please! You could write pretty much any message on this cake and we’d be happy to receive it, for Valentine’s Day, a birthday, or any other day really!
27. How to Get the Whole Cake to Yourself
This person is probably one of those people who just doesn’t like to share. They figured out an ingenious way to avoid giving away any slices of their birthday cake. They can be sure no one would dare take a slice for themselves, in the fear that they might come across something really disgusting. Even if we were told this was done as a gag we’d probably be too grossed out to try it.
We think this might work for any kind of food. Ice cream, Chinese take out, you name it! We’re going to start labeling our food containers the exact same way. That’ll teach coworkers to steal spoonfuls of our Ben and Jerry’s ice cream.
26. Mark with a Sea and his Brithday Cake
Not every name is spelled the way you might expect it to be. There are Emilies, Haylees, and Mathews out there who are sick and tired of their names being misspelled. In this case, it looks like the cake decorator was so confused by the less common spelling that they ended up writing this face-palm worthy message.
Poor Marc! Not only was his name misspelled but his birthday message was totally ruined. The decorator could’ve even bothered to spellcheck the word “Birthday” before icing it onto the cake. Truly the only redeeming quality of this dessert is the carrots, thankfully the icing person knew what those were supposed to look like.
25. An Enthusiastic Going Away Party
It’s not entirely clear if the person who this cake was intended for is going to or departing from Denmark. But either way, it doesn’t seem like their company is going to be very missed. Whoever ordered this cake for them was just glad that they’re finally going to be out of their hair. What did this person do to warrant people disliking their presence this much?
If he is indeed going to Denmark, then the Danish better watch out! It looks like this guy wasn’t particularly wanted in his home country for some reason, and now he’s coming to live amongst you! Better have immigration services keep an eye out for this one, just in case.
24. The Cake Says it’s Okay to Break Your Diet Now
We all go on a diet every once in a while. Maybe you’ve tried to cut back on sweets and sodas, or you stopped going out to eat fast food and started cooking healthier meals from home. But whoever was serving up this cake wanted to make one thing clear; it’s well worth cheating on your diet to have a piece!
While we have no way of validating whether or not this is true, the chocolaty goodness this cake seems to be covered in is proof enough. It’d be hard to turn down just a small slice of this sweet treat, so go ahead and indulge. It’s worth having a cheat meal every once in a while, and chocolate cake sure seems like a good option.
23. A Baked Bribe to Save Your Grade
There’s a teacher out there somewhere who received this cake and is trying to determine whether it’s an adequate apology, enough to excuse a student who may have been slacking off. It’s possible that this particular student is on the brink of failing their class, and is hoping that this baked bribe will be good enough to save them from retaking it.
You may not be able to relate to this educator, but if a student went to all the trouble to present you with a cake this elaborate wouldn’t you find it difficult to turn down? They even decorated the sides with gummy berries! Who would be able to turn down something as sweet as that?
22. Trying to Patch Up a Problem
One of the most awkward aspects of dating can be meeting your significant other’s parents. Everyone wants to make a good impression on the people who raised the person they love, but sometimes that’s easier said than done. But even when it doesn’t go as well as you would’ve hoped, it usually doesn’t get so bad that your partner needs to bake you an apology cake!
That’s gotta be some tough news to swallow, literally. But on the bright side, it looks like this person’s partner DOES care about them, otherwise, they wouldn’t have gone to the trouble of baking this cake. Maybe they both need to team up and bake this hateful dad a cake to try and win him over.
21. Softening a Harsh Message with Dessert
This is certainly one way to send off someone who is leaving their job! My best guess is that this message was written in jest, but can you imagine if it was genuine? That would be a pretty poor send-off after spending so much time at a company, we’re sure the newly released employee would not appreciate it.
Though I guess if a co-worker was a real pain in the rear to work with, the message might at least be honest. Better to send someone away having them knowing your true feelings than to put on a fake smile, right? Maybe it will teach them to be a little more pleasant when they start their next job.
20. A Cake with a Little Meme Based Humor
Wondering what kind of message to put on your cake? Why not turn to the never-ending treasure trove of humor: memes. This person was clearly unsure of a few things when throwing their birthday party. Did all their guests show up to celebrate their special day? Or did they just come for the cake? If that’s the kind of question you’re asking yourself then you might need to surround yourself with new friends.
We don’t know about you, but we wouldn’t be too ashamed to accept any birthday invite if the cake is involved. It’s just too tempting to turn down! But it is a fair suspicion for the birthday person to ponder. Hopefully, the majority of the guests were there for the celebration.
19. Keeping It Simple
We can pretty much imagine exactly how this situation came to be. The baker asked the customer what message they’d like written on the cake, and the customer responded with “Happy Birthday,”. When the baker asked if there was anything else they wanted the customed replied, “Just Happy Birthday,” and that’s exactly the words they ended up getting!
The baker appears to have taken the instructions way too literally. This result is definitely not what the customer expected. It really goes to show that some people have no common sense. Sometimes you have to take a moment to think for yourself instead of working like you’re a machine on autopilot. Otherwise, you might end up making silly mistakes like this.
18. A Cake from that One Difficult Person in Your Life
This cake could have been intended for a number of different people. We could see it being given to a significant other, a parent, or maybe even a sibling. Whoever this cake was presented to must be a very patient person. It looks like the giver of this cake is well aware that they aren’t the easiest person in the world to deal with, but nevertheless appreciates the effort this person makes to tolerate them.
While a homemade cake is a nice gesture to thank a person for their tolerance, it may be a good idea for this person to consider an attitude makeover. After all, you can’t be giving out cakes like this forever, people do have their limits!
17. A Cake with a Twist Ending
I imagine that the person who received this cake was pretty confused, especially if they have a drinking problem! Once you start reading the text on this cake you would assume it was intended for a birthday, but the twist at the end lets you know that this is actually not a birthday cake. In fact, it’s intended for a much less celebratory occasion; an intervention.
That’s a pretty clever bait and switch right there, though we’re not the sure person who it was intended for is going to be very appreciative. Hopefully, the recipient was bewildered enough that their friends and family were able to capture their attention. That way the intervention could have successfully taken place with minimal resistance.
16. Keeping the Cake in Theme
It’s important to always keep a cake in the theme of the celebration, otherwise, it’s just an ordinary cake that could be for any occasion. Don’t get us wrong, all cakes are good cakes, but it’s always better to go the extra mile to make it customized for the celebration. This particular cake was being presented at an office for IT professional’s day, and the frosted letters couldn’t be more on point.
Hopefully, the IT professionals at this company were able to appreciate this clever design. I wonder how this company is going to keep the cakes on a theme for the celebrations of other departments. Will HR managers get a cake with a resume printed on it?
15. When You Can’t Think of a Design
Sometimes it can be difficult to decide on a cake decoration for your birthday. Maybe you’ve flipped through several catalogs of dessert designs and none of them spoke to you. The only thing you can do at that point is consult with someone and get their opinion, and it looks like that’s exactly what this person did. When you’re completely out of ideas, this has to be the only option left.
You won’t have to explain your cake decoration to anyone, the answer will be clearly written in front of them. Not to mention, it’s a pretty funny thing to get printed on a cake. It’s not a bad idea to have an exchange between two friends as a cake design, it can come out both hilarious and unique.
14. “I Don’t Care What the Message Says”
The story behind this cake is a very interesting one. Apparently, someone wanted to spontaneously order a cake for themselves and instructed the bakers to write any message they wanted on it. After all, no one else was going to see it, it was only for their personal consumption. They probably burst out laughing when they received their order, whoever iced this cake really went above and beyond.
This really is one of the ultimate questions you ask yourself whenever grabbing a snack. It’s especially relevant if you’re munching on something as indulgent as an entire cake! Hopefully, they won’t be hungry after devouring this dessert, but they might still be bored, in which case they might need to order something else.
13. Laura’s Birthday Cake is Ruined
This is definitely a case of instructions being given over the phone because there’s no way someone got this message in writing and decided to write it out this way. It’s such a shame because it would’ve taken the baker far less work to just ice in a comma than write the entire word out itself. We can’t imagine Laura was very happy to see her birthday cake message botched like that.
We think chocolate shards around the edges will make up for it, it’s hard to stay upset when you’ve got a mouthful of chocolate to munch on. Perhaps whoever placed the order for this dessert got free credit because of the mix-up. Though if this is how this bakery operates, we can’t imagine that’d be worth much!
12. The Most Self Aware Baker
Not everyone is great at baking, it’s a skill that can sometimes take a long time to perfect. Nevertheless, it looks like this person at least put in the effort to do what they set out to, even if the job wasn’t executed perfectly. So to mitigate expectations they decided to ice this self-aware message onto the cake. If you start with low expectations then you can only go up from there!
At least they are aware of their own capabilities, which might make up for their lack of baking skills. And look, they even took the time to ice little flowers on the corners, that was a nice touch even if (in their own words) the cake sucks.
11. Ever Hear of Google Translate?
The person who iced this cake had a very bad grasp of the instructions they were given. Clearly, the person who placed the order for this cake wanted the message in Spanish, though they probably didn’t know how to write it themselves. Maybe that was the reason the message for this cake went so wrong. The person placing the order might have had much better luck if they had gotten a Spanish speaker to translate it first.
But alas, the person at the bakery didn’t seem to know Spanish either and decided to create this mess instead. You’d think they would consider using Google Translate for a task like this, but it must have never crossed their mind.
10. An Unconventional Way to Quit Your Job
Most companies require you to give them two week’s notice before you quit. This woman’s boss only specified that the notice had to be in writing with the employee’s signature, but he didn’t say anything about using frosting instead of ink! It looks like she got a little creative with those loopholes, and probably gave the most unusual two week’s notice in corporate history.
She may have even set a precedent in this company, the manager might now require the notice to be in pen and paper after this! But if the cake was good enough, and shared with the whole office, employees might ask their boss to make notices in cake the new standard. Who knows, maybe this will catch on!
9. A Cake with a Separate Agenda
Anniversaries are a great occasion to gift your loved one a cake, whether you’re entering your first, second or even your third year. However, this cake seems to have a secret (or not so secret) agenda included in the icing. It seems like whoever had this cake made was expected that they would have been proposed to before reaching their third anniversary. But clearly such was not the case, and they needed to figure out how to communicate that to their partner.
It would be pretty difficult for anyone to miss this message. We’re guessing that they won’t be able to quietly enjoy this cake before they answer the question it poses. You know what would be a great way for this person to finally propose? With another cake!
8. Does This Cake Want an Apology?
It would be a major bummer if this was the message you received on your birthday cake. But we are assuming that this dessert was not presented on this person’s birthday, it seems more like they got it because they royally screwed something up. It could have been anything really, they could’ve burned dinner or set their bedroom on fire, the possibilities are endless.
This cake seems to be a passive-aggressive apology that’s maybe intended to squeeze an “I’m sorry” out of the recipient. Then again, they might learn that if they screw something up they will be rewarded with cake, that’s not sending out a great message. Don’t be surprised if this person keeps making mistakes in the hopes of getting more cake!
7. No Context
We love a good mystery. From the paintings left on cave walls by Neanderthals to complicated hieroglyphics by the ancient Egyptians, people have always tried to determine what hidden messages others have left behind. And this cake is definitely a mystery we’re trying to crack. What could it possibly mean, and who was it intended for?
There’s a lot going on with this cake. Let’s break it down. There appears to be part of a soccer team, letters forming the word “pity” on top of toothpicks, and the words “nobody loves you” written in the middle of the cake. Clearly, this is a soccer player who is being kicked off his team because no one can stand them anymore.
6. Looks like Video Game Night Got Heated
Some people can have a total attitude change when they’re in the heat of the moment during a video game. When a person is especially competitive, to the point where they will do anything to win, things can get pretty ugly. Plus, Mario Kart is a serious business! Apparently, this person took it SO seriously that they needed to apologize for their bad behavior.
In the heat of the moment, they probably used a few choice words that they ended up regretting after the game had ended. In order to make amends, they decided to present their gaming partner with this tasty treat. Hopefully, it will be enough to earn their forgiveness and they can pick up their consoles together again.
5. No One Can Spell Her Name Correctly
Some people just don’t seem the get the idea that there are names that have unconventional spelling. Poor Sheri, she was probably cursing her parents for giving her a name with a less common spelling after receiving this cake. The direction this baker decided to go with this design was truly bizarre. They heard “Sheri with an ‘i'” over the phone, and seemed to think the customer wanted the word “eye” there instead.
It’s lucky they didn’t ice the image of an actual eyeball on the cake, that would’ve been a whole lot worse. Maybe it would’ve helped if the instructions were given in writing, but after seeing the sheer number of cake fails that exist we’re not so sure it would’ve made a difference.
4. A Passive Aggressive Cake Message
I didn’t know that a cake could be so passive-aggressive, yet here we are! You probably never thought a baked good could be this passive-aggressive, yet here we are. Jason is probably feeling pretty guilty right now, maybe he wishes he had done a little bit more for this person’s birthday. I wonder if they felt too bad about their carelessness to cut into the cake and have a slice.
At the very least, the person who gave them this cake still loves them, even if they might be a little peeved at the moment. Maybe all they have to do is give them an apology cake in return and then they will be able to kiss and make up. Then in the future, Jason will know to put in a little more effort during birthdays.
3. A Passive Aggressive Dessert
This cake is passing off a pretty passive-aggressive message, which also doubles as a back-handed compliment. Who even knows what kind of celebration was taking place when this cake was presented. Maybe it wasn’t even a celebration, maybe the person who received this cake did something horrible and this was the other person’s way of getting revenge.
Even though this is a pretty unsettling cake to receive, it IS still a whole cake after all, and it even has sprinkles! Can’t be too down on life when you have a whole frosted cake with sprinkles on it. Though if the person serving it to you is this petty you might wanna pass on it, just to be on the safe side.
2. A Good Way to Leave a Job
Having difficulty figuring out how to quit your day job? Maybe a written email is too informal for you. Maybe a company-wide announcement is too formal, plus you hate public speaking. So what’s the ultimate solution? You’ve probably already guessed it. But in case you haven’t, yes the answer is cake. The answer is ALWAYS cake.
There’s really no better way to communicate a negative message than in a frosted, baked confection. If you were worried that your boss might be taken aback by your resignation, the presence of cake might even distract them! So if you’re about to give your two weeks notice, why not phone the patisserie and have them whip something like this up for you?
1. Only for the Most Formal of Birthdays
Is the birthday boy an especially formal person? Well, you don’t want to have any cute or silly messages printed on their birthday cake, that certainly won’t do. Better to have a very detailed and technical explanation of the purpose of the cake, and the reason for its presence at the birthday party. Oh, and don’t forget to describe in excessive detail what a birthday party is.
But even on this very technically accurate cake, there is still room for some fun colors and frosted decorations. Honestly, this kind of dry birthday message is so out of place, it’s hilarious. This is definitely an idea you should steal the next time you’re in charge of getting the cake for a friend’s party.
