Vince Villano was a regular customer at the Starbucks in DuPont, Washington for years. His usual barista, Nicole McNeil, who had been working at the chain location for a number of years herself, knew him by his order: “Trenta Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew.”

Though the two were familiar with each other in this context, they had no relationship outside of a daily coffee exchange.
