Kids say the darndest things! Sometimes catching us off guard with their innocence, charm, boldness or intelligence. Oftentimes reckless and funny and other times quite surprising. The limit to creativity and imagination is neverending. Their honest and unrestrained perspectives on life is what amuses and stun us the most. The Burn of the Century
Oh the joys of middle school. It’s just awful isn’t it? Three years of the most awkward phases of our lives. Not just awkward but also can be pretty hurtful. Here’s an example of a middle school breakup that could never be forgotten.
It’s not enough to break up with someone, but to go directly to social media and post something so viscous. The knight in shining armor is really just a loser in tinfoil. Wow, that stings. The power of a well crafted insult, both witty and creative yet extremely painful for the one on the other side. It’s funny when it’s not about us, but we really feel for this guy.
2% Skim Milk or Whole?
Oh those dreaded math quizzes. The memories of minute math and times tables left their mark on us forever. Imagine that on top of the anxiety that these horrible quizzes gave us, that we also received a nickname for doing so poorly on them. This is a reminder that kids are awful and that the impact words can have on a young soul is huge.
One innocent academic mis-step gave the kid a run for his money. Having to face this nickname for the rest of the year as his quiz grade spread like wildfire throughout the school, testing his resilience. At this age kids are unaware of the emotional toll this teasing can take on their classmates.
Go Big and Then Go Home
Preschool, a magical place for kids’ imaginations to run wild and free. When this woman’s daughter asked to go with a spooky costume to class, the answer was a simple yes. Little did they know how scarring this costume would be to her classmates. It is clear that the costume may have been just a bit too spooky for some.
The little girl in the room has the true face of fear and panic as tears roll down her cheeks. No one prepared her for true Halloween vibes. This creepy costume might be memorable for the adults, while we are sure the kids are still having nightmares.
Local DJ Kicked Out Mid-Set
There’s a time for learning and a time for partying. Right? Apparently not. Teachers took away this kid’s DJ equipment after finding out he was starting parties in the school bathroom. We don’t think this was such a bad idea. This kid must actually be on some scale of genius, giving the other kids a place to be loose, have fun, shake off the rigorous schedule of school.
The legend of the toilet raves, this story will last for years to come. The unpredictable acts kids come up with can bring us so much joy and laughter sometimes. This one was worth it kid, this one was totally worth it.
Zoom Classroom, Jokes on You
In the virtual age of online classrooms and Zoom lectures the kids these days have found a new playground for their mischievous pranks. Learning behind the safety of their screens allows their creativity to run wild with all of the possible ways to bring humor to a rather ordinary online class. Teachers have to try to maintain order in this new age chaos.
This clever prank came just at the end of class when the teacher asked if there were any last questions. The raise hand button was pressed and when the kid was called out ready to hear a last question, he simply and snarkily said “ sorry I was just stretching”.
Mind Your Own Business, Please
Children can be both hilarious and cringe at the same time. We just want to mind our own business most of the time but kids have no boundaries. They say whatever comes to mind, to anyone, strangers and familiar faces are all the same to them.
When this teacher was called out on her healthy eating habits by a young student she nearly choked on her last bite. The audacity, the embarrassment! For once couldn’t they just let her eat in peace? These kids’ unfiltered thoughts have the power to not only affect kids their own age but any age. A simple comment but to an adult it can bring up a whole lot more.
Insect Dissection, Innocent or Twisted
Childhood curiosity can lead in various directions and can leave parents amused and oftentimes questioning. In this case we’re leaning more towards questioning. Physically and a bit violently using a blade to open up insects, dissecting them carefully and focused. Some kids play with bugs and others dissect, that’s normal, sure.
His dad seemed not to be too disturbed, lightheartedly adding that he must be leaning towards becoming a surgeon. We’re not sure if that’s a joke but to us we’re half laughing half horrified. We’re sure it’s fine, a kid is just a kid, discovering the strange and disgusting wonders of the world on his own. In a few years things will change, we hope.
Prepare Us for an Apocalypse
Kids are great at seeing things out of the box, and we can’t deny that sometimes they do have a point. This kid is undeniably a forward thinker taking an unconventional approach to school work. How can a kid be so concerned with global warming? Or a future apocalypse?
Wherever he learned this from, he is able to have a different perspective on the importance of his day to day tasks. He can see that there are bigger stakes at hand. This is the tough stuff for the big kids, yes the adults, to deal with, not for kids. Knowing what he does at this young age can lead him to create positive change, maybe we should let him off the hook.
Explaining History Time After Time
History can get confusing for young brains trying to pick up all the details yet not understanding precisely how to measure time. When we were young our parents seemed old and our grandparents were like dinosaurs. As we get older we are able to piece everything together a bit more clearly, time holds a different shape.
This tutor was asked by her student what year she was born, she responded and he replied innocently, were you a slave? A little off buddy but only by a couple hundred years. Soon it will all make sense to him but for now it seemed like a reasonable question, we aren’t judging the little guy.
For the Kids, They Said
We do anything for the kids. When they are babies we babble and make cooing noises, we play imaginary games and go along with their creative minds. As they age we let them do more, like paint our nails. Here we thought this was a nice bonding activity because a chance to hang out with kids at this age is priceless.
All jokes aside when the young kid starts making fun of us. As an uncle to a 4 year old little girl, this is the best activity of the day. Until she calls him out as a “gay girly boy”. Where did she even hear that? Can we pretend we didn’t?
Watch Out, the Kids Talk Back
As time goes by young kids seem to have more and more attitude. Talking back and making sassy comments as if it’s just another way to speak to people. Maybe it’s time to learn some breathing techniques and practice patience a bit. Adults really get on their hands and knees to get these kids everything they need and they still have the audacity to talk nasty to their elders.
One mama called her daughter chunky monkey, to which she replied ok fat rat. Shocking, but still laughing. The other two had incidents with a 7 year old talking back to them about their education, hinting that their parents are dumb. Whew, simmer down kids, simmer down.
Airing Out the Dirty Laundry
Kids are cute until they try to get us in trouble. In this situation a sly little girl who had no idea what funny business she was setting her parents up for, really stirred the pot. Just one question sent the whole family on a mission. The uncanny ability to blur the line between hilarity and absurdity. Catching the family off-guard at the most random time.
The daughter questioned mom about her bra left in dads car, the whole family rushed to the car to see what it was- a face mask. The moments that are so unpredictable and just a smidge awkward remind us of the hilarious instances these kids can bring to our lives.
Sharing the (not-so) Family Secrets
An endearing quality of children is oversharing, no filter, no awareness. Just spilling the beans. As a woman shares her selfless act of becoming a surrogate her son shares the story differently to his teachers. The little boy goes on to describe his moms surrogacy as not being his dads therefore they will not be keeping the baby. Great logic, we will give him that!
The unfiltered honesty actually provided some lighthearted amusement. As candid as it was for him to describe the situation that way, there is something about it that brings a smile to our faces. This lets us recognize the sweet innocence of children and the funny stories they leave behind.
Teach Your Kids to be Better
This shocking incident at the zoo left everyone appalled and saddened. This senseless act by a young ill-mannered kid to decide to throw rocks at these poor caged animals with intention of hitting one of them. These majestic birds are there to be kept safe and well taken care of, to protect them from endangerment and this elementary school kid commits such a selfish crime.
No wonder this woman commented in anger, the act not only harmed the beautiful bird but also those who were there to witness or hear the story. This story just reminds us of the importance of teaching our kids empathy, compassion and respect and to become responsible for their own actions.
Playing Without Breaking the Rules
In a peculiar but creative twist on how to navigate the restrictions of the school yard, these kids figured it out. The peculiar part is that they took the global pandemic we all experienced and turned it into a way to play their game. Using coughing instead of physically tagging. Understanding that coughing is contagious and spreads only makes sense to be used as an alternative.
It’s interesting to see the effect this had on kids and pretty clever of them to come up with it themselves. Using the innocence of childhood to come up with creative ways to adapt and still bring joy to their day without breaking the rules.
Lions and Tigers and Pepperoni?
A treasured purse dating back to their wedding day, how exciting it is to be able to share it with their daughters now. These girls loved playing princesses and now they have a princess purse. They seemed to have really loved it, playing all day. When evening came around the parents checked the purse and realized they had been prancing around with a purse filled with pepperoni.
These girls turned an ordinary day into an unexpectedly funny one. It could have been anything, accessories, toys, but pepperoni? That was definitely a shocker. Oh the joy of parenting, full of surprises and the occasional laugh that leaves you gasping for air.
All Fun and Games Until There’s Ice Cream Involved
The fun of childhood is being reckless and carefree and sometimes also a devious prankster. The school decided to hold the kids responsible for clean bathrooms and at the end of the month whoever was cleaner was awarded ice cream. This led the kids to compete against each other, messing up the other bathrooms in order to win.
That is definitely not what the teachers intended but must’ve been a fun game for the kids to play. The amusement that comes from such a simple prank might actually be worth it. We’re pretty sure this challenge didn’t end up lasting very long once the school caught on. We still wonder who got ice cream?
Don’t Let it Slip, Teacher
In a third grade classroom it isn’t rare to smell a lurking mysterious odor. In this case the teacher was accused by the students of letting one rip. Her response was quick-witted and in good-humor, “no, if it was I’d go into the hallway”. That short response would become an unsuspected running joke.
Everytime this teacher would exit the room the kids would giggle and question her if she’s going out to pass gas. It’s become a sort of lighthearted joke even though it embarasses the teacher, it does keep her on her toes. The kids also get a kick out of it, laughing throughout the day and just waiting for the moment that their teacher steps out just so they can ask her where she’s going.
Lo-Tech is the New Hi-Tech
This fast-paced digital world we live in now has Gen Z kids scratching their heads at old technology. How does a blank CD get songs on it? Why do they have to choose a limited number of songs? Why is it so big? To them this just feels like an ancient mystery and although they may be interested to know how and why, it honestly isn’t very relevant anymore.
It’s a mindbender how quickly technology changes and how the things that once had us fascinated are beginning to interest the younger generation. The curiosity overflows for these kids as they look at the old technology as sweet artifacts while at the same time keep evolving with fast paced tech today.
Loving Son or Mobster, Unclear
We’re both laughing and crying, a hilarious tale but also a bit unsettling. If this is what a 3 year old is capable of coming up with, we’re not sure we’re ready to see the coming years. Tantrums are normal for kids, wanting to be independent but far from being able to take full control of their schedules. The frustration got to the kid and he kicked his dad.
Not a proud moment, but it happens. Later the kid actually apologized for kicking, how sweet and adorable. He then threatens his dad to do as he says and he won’t have to kick him again. Sealed with a kiss, no words except “ok little mobster”.
Children Join the Spinach Resistance
Another child joins the spinach resistance, what did mom expect? The old-tale is coming back to haunt us. Haven’t we learned we have to hide it in something? Don’t show the kids it’s spinach, be smarter. This kid locks down ready to fight in any way to avoid having to eat that green stuff.
Frustrated, she talks back boldly asking her mom why she is treated like a desperate animal. Did she expect her kid not to rebel? These kids sure have spirit and are full of energy ready to fight the good fight. The spinach resistance continues and we must be honest, we’re probably taking the kids’ side this time.
Funny to Some, Punishable to Others
Kids can be hilarious, shocking and just downright ridiculous especially as we see in this school incident. It’s bad when the parents are informed of the mischievous acts the kids come up with in school. This one decided it would be funny to sneak in the comedic catchphrase “UR MOM” to a class assignment.
Maybe he didn’t know the answer, maybe out of boredom or maybe just being a kid and flirting with boundaries. We’re sure he didn’t expect his teacher’s reaction when she took it as far as reaching out to his parents. Aside from the punishment, (what is the punishment again?) we’re sure this kid left all of his classmates laughing.
Learning the Hard Way, for Both of Them
Whew these kids are clever, quick and unpredictable. In less than 5 minutes this 9 year old son sent inappropriate photos to a broad list of people from his dads contact list. People including his business partner and accountant and even a fast food restaurant bot. There really was no holding back with this one.
The kid saw an opportunity and took it for all he could. We’re sure the dad’s reaction was first utter shock and then disbelief, or at least mildly hoping it didn’t actually happen. The son most likely did it by accident, naive and innocent, not thinking of the consequences. Lucky for him the dad was able to shake off the chaos that comes with parenting.
A Run for Their Money
Onlookers, policemen and whoever hears this story will have to pick their jaw up from off the floor. A young girl only 13 years old with an 11 year old passenger driving around and leading the police on a 16 minute chase. This daring duo had the audacity to just keep going, 16 minutes is no small amount of time.
Not only did the police finally catch them but to their surprise also found marijuana and a firearm in the vehicle. That just brings this story to the next level. A strong need for guidance and intervention here as these young individuals found themselves in deep trouble. A bumpy road ahead.
Fake it Until You Make it
A rather clever attempt of a high schooler to get around the “no devices” rule and sneak in an apple watch to class. This teen thought it would work, and we were almost convinced at first glance as well. Wearing his Apple Watch around his ankle claiming he’s on house arrest and is waiting for his court date.
Well the teacher caught onto that real quick, told him to hand over the watch and sent him straight to detention. Though he was innovative with his idea, it just didn’t pull through like he thought it would. These kinds of minds just show us how inventive kids can be when attempting to bend the rules.
Parental Supervision Would be Helpful
A candid email to her teacher left this kid wishing and hoping. The teacher was shocked to receive such an email, it’s written so nicely but the message it portrays is so backwards. This might even be worse than the “my dog ate my homework” excuse.
In fact this isn’t even an excuse, it’s stating how the homework assignment simply cannot be completed on time. She won’t be able to make it by the due date as she has a party to attend to and is requesting a couple more days in order to finish it. Seems like the confidence in this girl is high, a reasonable request she thinks to herself.
Happy Thanksgiving to You too
This girl’s response to what she is thankful for really caught everyone by surprise. Especially stunning that the newspaper agreed to go ahead and print it for the rest of the community to gasp at as well. She says she is thankful for the dead people because at least they tried. Now don’t get us wrong, there is something endearing about it.
She must’ve really tried to think of something good, something different. Welp, she definitely got the different part. A unique perspective on life, one we frankly can relate to. Cheers to the dead people, they sure as heck tried. Honestly a breath of fresh air, offering unexpected lightness into the usual dull answers to what we are thankful for.
Fishy Plan for Something Small
A whole plan, scheming and plotting to figure out the best way to get fake IDs. Usually a move for the older kids, but these two were up to something specific. What was that? One of them seems unsure, maybe it’s a bad idea, the fake ID’s cost more than the fish.
The what? The fish. The pet fish they want to buy at Petco. The whole grand plan to get fake IDs was to use them to pretend they are 18, the legal age to buy a fish at the petstore. These kids must have really wanted pet fish. The plan was so pure, just trying to make their innocent dreams come true.
Say it Ain’t So, Kid
Kids have a natural ability to catch us off guard, speaking words we didn’t see coming. In this experience, an eighth grader was listening to Weezer and the tutor commented on how he also enjoyed Weezer. The kid goes on to say she loves classic rock and feels like she’s in the wrong generation.
Little Lady is 13 years old, and making this poor tutor feel ancient. And side-note it’s not really classic rock, it’s alternative sweetheart. Another side note, don’t make us feel old please, ok? This small exchange was supposed to be a bonding experience not meant to separate us. Let’s just forget she said that and go back to the part where we like the same music.
No Watermelon Baby for This Kid
An Impressive level of intellect for a kid this age. We remember being younger and believing without question the myths the older people would tell us. A watermelon would start growing in our stomach if we swallowed the seeds.
Yes we believed it, certainly. It may have just been a tactic to make children be careful while eating, to avoid choking on the watermelon seeds. We didn’t expect a kid to call out his aunt for being dumb. Nope, definitely not. He stated harshly that she’s wrong, there’s no sunlight in his stomach, a watermelon couldn’t possibly grow there. He goes further to tell her that college has failed her. Whew, what a hit!
