British cabinet-maker Thomas Cook started his holiday tour company in 1841, when he took a number of temperance campaigners to see a teetotal rally. This would grow to become a brand offering international travel packages around the world.

Earlier this year (2019), the company started struggling and closed 21 of its branches. By September the company reported operating losses of $2 billion, and soon after collapsed, leaving 150,000 travelers stranded around the world. This forced the UK government to step in in order to return them home.
