Mally the dog was doing a very important job for the US army in Afghanistan helping soldiers sniff out bombs. Nick Montez worked alongside Mally in 2011, but was honorably discharged in 2013 so they fell out of touch, but Nick couldn’t stop thinking about her.

Since then he has been trying to adopt her, but she was still needed in the armed forces. Finally in 2018 he received a letter from the Idaho Senator that Mally had finished her service and he could bring her home. Nick even got her paw print and identification number tattooed on his calf.
