Sometimes the locks on public bathrooms can be a little confusing. You don’t always know which knob needs to be turned in what direction in order to ensure the door stays locked. After all, the last thing anyone wants is for someone to walk in on them while doing their business. In this case, someone has taken it upon themselves to educate the public.

Without using too many words, these labels inform the bathroom user what they experience will be like depending on which direction the lock is turned. If they want to poop alone (which most people do), it should be turned to the left. However, if they want some company, they should feel free to leave it facing right.
