Funny Neighbors That Make Life More Fun
Love ’em, hate ’em, or ignore ’em, almost all of us have neighbors. These friends we haven’t yet met can come with a lot of surprises. You never really know who you’re moving in next to. However, they sometimes like to leave us clues. Whether they’re making a mess of themselves or a mockery of something else, people are weird. Not everyone is good at keeping their weirdness at bay. Some of them don’t even want to. So let your freak flag fly and grab the apple pie! It’s time to say hello to some of the more colorful people on the block.
Oh, and don’t forget this important piece of advice: if you have no weird neighbors, that means you’re the odd one out.
Professional Home Installation Is A Good Option
Everyone has that one dream bathroom we’ve designed in our heads. What type of light fixtures and glass work is in yours? Some of our ideas are more practical than artistic. When you’re planning that dream water closet you have to think of some necessities. Having a little bit of sunshine is a good thing in a bathroom.
Why? Because light is beneficial to life and bathing in the dark isn’t as romantic as it sounds. So how do you get sunlight without a public indecency charge on your record? Easy, install frosted glass. There’s a funny thing with those thick blocks. If they’re not installed the right way, or the wrong ones are ordered, they don’t really work.
They’ll Do It, Jason’s Weird
A finely kept yard is a symbol of pride in one’s home. Some neighborhoods even have competitions to see who can maintain their yard the best. Things are weird in the suburbs. When there’s a big plastic trophy at stake, things begin to get serious. Even without competition, it’s just polite not to dirty up someone else’s property. That’s common sense 101. Fun fact: you don’t have to be smart to be a homeowner.
Even without being clever, some people take their yards to weird places. Guard dogs are apparently a thing of the past. Instead, people have guard children. Where do you even get those? Is that what they’re teaching in schools now? We’re starting to see why people stay in the city.
The Happiest Time of Year
One of the benefits of living in a desert is the lack of vegetation. Wait, maybe that’s not a benefit. Whatever, we’re getting cheese fries. What we’re getting at is that every environment is beautiful in its own way. While that doesn’t lend much to celebrating, it does have its advantages. For instance, you can celebrate with a weirdly decorated carrot.
Who needs a Christmas tree anyway? All those pine needles get everywhere. They start to dry out. They’re really more of a hassle than anything. People in the southwest of America are doing it right. The annual Christmas carrot is a much more sensible option.
Look Who’s Not Too Thrilled
Making a big deal about a loved one is understandable. Whenever a birthday rolls around, even a prank or two can be expected. However, this seems intentional and hurtful. Who knows, we’re not here to judge. If someone in the cul-de-sac started putting this out, we’d be worried. You can just sense the impending fight that’s about to go down. This is almost like a teaser trailer for a thrilling summer blockbuster murder mystery.
Maybe some people enjoy having their baby pictures blown up to massive proportions and paraded on the lawn. It’s almost like your own billboard celebrating yourself. What makes it all better is that this is probably a surprise. Who doesn’t like being reminded of their age like this?
They Were So Close To Bed
Going on a bender isn’t always a great idea. But if you’re in your own home, who cares? As long as you’re being safe and not hurting anyone, do whatever you feel like. You can even drink on your roof! That’s your right. Why not even get more comfortable and do it nude? There are more than a few good reasons not to…
One, you don’t want to pass out on your roof naked. Two, you don’t want to end up on some influencer’s stream. If you go viral, you should at least be conscious for it. This guy didn’t seem to care. He didn’t even listen to rule one! Oh well, not everyone lives a private life.
Keep On Hanging In There
What’s your favorite holiday? If you didn’t say Halloween then we need to have a talk. Sit down, drink some water, and let us explain why you’re incorrect. Actually, we don’t care. All holidays are fun. Setting up for all of them is an absolute nightmare. Who has time to put up lights, throw out the tree, carve a pumpkin, and bake apple pies? Nobody, that’s who.
This may look weird. But his homeowner is already ahead of the curve. Instead of wasting all that decorating time, just put everything out at once. It’s an absolute win-win. The street gets a laugh, that’s one good thing. The other is that you’re always prepared for every occasion.
Is This How The Story Goes?
Not everyone is well versed in the lore of the holidays. Who even has seen a sleigh in these modern times? In fact, we’d like to wager a guess that not everyone knows their stories. How do sleighs even work, anyway? Who’s to say that this creative homeowner isn’t just telling the truth. Maybe we’re all wrong and they’ve got it correct.
If reindeer can fly they can surely do other things. They probably have to be crazy strong to pull the sleigh through the air. Who’s to say that those physics make sense. Guess what? They don’t. This seems much more accurate. We bet that’s why Rudolph’s nose is red. He keeps bonking it on the sleigh!
The Dog Days Of Summer
Less on the funny side but still heart-warming, check out this cool cat. They love dogs so much they can’t bear to see them melt. The summer heat is no laughing matter. Thankfully, there are still people in the world who know how to keep their cool. They also want to help others get their pets poolside. You don’t even need to travel.
They’ve got you covered. Well, at least your paws and ankles are cooled off. Small gestures like this are what make good neighbors great. Not only is this a selfless act, it’s pretty creative. This is the person we want over on cookouts. They probably bring everyone, even the pets, a treat or two.
Dave Is An Absolute Savage
Having a neighbor you’re close with can be nice. Some apartment complexes have entire group chats! These are both great to meet people but still have some privacy and boundaries. Sometimes these neighbors become friends. That’s when the sharing shows us that some walls are thinner than others. We get that loud music can irritate those near us. Other things are usually quieter and more discreet.
Yes, friends share a lot of things. They can even make us laugh and smile. Those are positives when you’re starting out on your own. Some things don’t have to be shared. They also definitely don’t have to become weaponized.
Their Playlist Is Pretty Ruff
Raise your paws if you were in a band in high school. What about college? Anyone in a band right now? Okay, great, this one’s for y’all. Designing posters for a show is both fun and exhausting. You have to fit so much info to get a message across, but you don’t want to lose people’s interest. Sometimes you just can’t help but go on and on.
Take for instance this sick new band that has a gig nightly. Well, not a band, but a super dedicated dog. He’s so popular other people are designing his marketing. Wow, someone get them into the big leagues. Maybe get them out of the apartment a bit more, too.
The Ball’s Not In Your Court
One of our favorite fantasy creatures was a tree. Specifically, the Whomping Willow that pummelled anything that got near it. This tree had a real bad case of the Mondays. Since art imitates life, what would the real world equivalent of that be? It’s probably some thorny plant that doesn’t like joy or happiness. It also has a real big thing against any type of bouncing ball.
Plant companions can take on personality traits and habits of their owners, right? If a neighbor won’t give back a ball, you’re out of luck. If a tree won’t, then maybe you’re just a muggle in a weird neighborhood.
The Guardians Of The Garden
A beautiful garden takes time, dedication, and plastic fairies. These three things combined make for a gorgeous landscape right next to your house. The third requires a bit more work (and a trip to the nearest toy store). When you can wrangle everything together, you’ll have a sea of green that’ll scare the bravest of birds. Plus, you’ll become a neighborhood spectacle.
Having a cute garden takes time. Why not incorporate a little fun into it, too? While nudity and streaking are usually frowned upon, Barbie gets a pass. Why? Because just like Madonna she’s been around long enough to transcend rules. She’s also just exploring her more natural side.
Mark, May We Have Some?
Fruit trees provide the world with shade and nutrients. People wouldn’t have gotten very far without learning that fruits were good for us. The problem with that is, now everyone wants them. Fast forward to now, and some of our neighbors are lucky enough to grow their own! Does that mean they have to share? Absolutely not.
Stealing food is a no-no. If someone on the block is kind enough to share, or even let you pick your own, that’s different. That shouldn’t mean you get to become picky while picking. Don’t get greedy while gobbling either! There should be enough peaches to go around.
Mr. Brown Moved To Town
Everyone celebrates the holidays in different ways. In October some people love to trick or treat. Others prefer to wait for the arrival of the Great Pumpkin. When things get colder, out comes the mistletoe and big festive firs. What do you do when you don’t have a forest to mow down? Use what you got and leave it in the ground. Just don’t let your ornaments snap it in two.
It may not look like much. That’s it. That’s the sentence. It also may be deeply iconic for fans of legumes. If you’re in the know, this neighbor, and the Red Baron can meet for eggnog. If not, time to hit the newspapers. Just don’t miss the football when you reach the sports section.
He’s Been Doing So Well
To everyone who’s quit, thought about quitting, or is working on quitting cigarettes: congratulations! We know it can be tough. Sometimes people think it’s the hardest struggle of their lives. Willpower and a good support network can make it easier. A good way to start is to lay off the catnip. Sneaking out to smoke the butts on the ground isn’t advisable either.
This homeowner cares for their kitty. They decided to involve the entire neighborhood just to help their feline quit. Now everyone can lend a paw to making sure the street is clean. Think of the nicotine addicted cats! This is a wholesome and slightly bizarre neighborhood that’s finally going smoke-free.
Look Who’s Acting Absolutely Quackers
Does anyone read those “Don’t Feed The Wildlife” signs? Did you even know they existed? Well, they’re in certain places for a reason. While taking care of local wildlife is kind, it can lead to some problems. Take for instance Fowl Property Overcrowding and Loitering. That’s a fancy name we made up to ask this person: Why do you have so many ducks in your yard?
This person fed these daffy ducks a few times too many. When there’s a free buffet the word gets around. Once everyone is billing about this place there’s no stopping them. Hopefully, they get their ducks in a row and sort this out. It’s almost time for them to migrate!
Is This Against Their Lease?
Ah yes, who doesn’t love a good ol’ fashioned fire hazard? It’s even better when they’re not yours. Okay, never mind, we’re just blowing smoke. This is terrifying and dumb. Thankfully, this didn’t belong to the photographer. Could you imagine being this dumb and still knowing how to operate the Internet?
Some people just shouldn’t be allowed to do their own home repairs or installations. This person’s neighbor probably thought they were being clever. It doesn’t matter how cool you are. Blocking air vents isn’t the way to go. There are much easier ways to fix an air conditioner. This isn’t one of them.
Sailing Around The Concrete Jungle
Living in a major city comes with a ton of advantages. Proximity to business, nightlife, even knock-off Friends-inspired coffee shops are all great. You’re also close to many interesting people. How exactly do you stand out when you’re truly one in a million? Just become a pirate and set sail for adventure. It doesn’t even matter if your boat is a balcony on the 30th floor of a building.
First off, please don’t turn your balcony into a boat. No matter how hot it gets, this isn’t the answer. But you can absolutely PRETEND your balcony is a boat. While setting sail isn’t a possibility, that won’t stop your neighbors. For all anyone cares, they’re the Dreaded Pirate Roberts, and they have an adventure to embark on.
Wi-Oh, Wi-Fi, Why?
The advent of Wi-Fi was both a blessing and a curse. The blessing is that we finally had a reason to loiter at Starbucks. Apparently, they don’t like non-customers standing around for their A/C. The curse is that we’re burdened with coming up with a snappy name for our router. If you ever look at your neighbor’s names, you may see that they found a way to chat without really meeting.
Who doesn’t love a witty title? Just like ugly shoes, a dumb router name can really show off who you are. Other times they can be more of a warning. Is it much of a warning if the neighbors intended to be caught? These modern times are weird, man.
You Won’t Answer For Cookies?
Knock, knock! Who’s there? We actually don’t care. Read the sign. Our homes are our fortresses and it’s annoying when someone tries to breach the outer perimeters. Even an unannounced visitor is enough for us to raise the drawbridge. Some can make it through. Specifically, if they’re selling thin minty chocolate cookies that taste HEAVENLY when put in the freezer.
Everyone else needs to pivot and walk back the way they came. That can get old fast. This private citizen decided to go old-school to get their message across. No means no and that counts for trespassers, too. Seriously though, cookie sellers totally don’t have to listen to the sign.
A Little Privacy Would Be Nice
By the time any of us can afford a house, we’ll be old enough to rest. Why? Because that’s pretty dog-gone impressive. It takes a lot of hard work to buy a property, you deserve to just have a sit. Rest up, think about your success, and enjoy the privacy. Wait, is that your neighbor taking your picture over there? What’s going on?
Now flip the situation around. Pretend you’re just minding your own business in the backyard and you see this. First, turn off the grill (don’t start a fire). Now, ask them if they’re okay. What else is bound to happen when dogs sit like humans? Maybe even our pets need to take a mental health day from time to time.
A Grudge With Deep Roots
Not everyone gets along with their neighbors. While that’s part of the fun, this can also be stressful. What fun? We’re not sure. We’re just looking for a silver lining. Sometimes your neighbors are jerks. The good thing is that you don’t have to ever talk to them! That’s what privacy shrubs and obscenely large crop circles are for.
If you have the ability to grow crops, then you probably have some skills with a tractor. Whenever you’re in a feud with your neighbor you’ll have some options. Taking the high road is usually advised, but blowing off steam doesn’t hurt either. Will it affect the taste of the corn?
A Man Of His Word
It’s impossible to please everyone. One person may like your welcome mat. Others may hate the type of flowers in your garden. Your neighbors may even be fed up with your fence. When any of these problems occur you have to learn how to compromise. Just because someone asked you to paint a fence doesn’t mean you need to do it their way.
Compromising is something we all have to learn how to do. What many of us don’t realize is what that means. When we compromise we basically all agree to settle on not being satisfied, but civil. While that may sound bad, so does living in the suburbs. So now everyone wins and loses. Hooray!
It’s The Sequel Everyone Wanted
Movie remakes and sequels are absolutely out of control. Almost every famous title is getting a reboot these days. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but most of them are pretty unwatchable. That’s not an opinion, just a fact. Sometimes movies are so low-budget that they have to film in residential neighborhoods. When that happens we learn industry secrets. One of them being: Godzilla was never very tall.
Who was lucky (or unlucky) enough to have the king of movies visit their home? Is there even insurance for giant lizard attacks? Maybe this would raise the property value. At the very least they’ll get some great shots for their feed. Even famous movie monsters have to settle for whatever jobs they can get these days.
It’s Being Installed In Sections
Having a beautiful yard has a lot of advantages. However, having something so cool comes with responsibilities. Do you want everyone in the town traipsing around it? No, of course not. The best option is to get a beautiful gate installed. People can still look at the grass, they just won’t be able to ruin it for the homeowners.
That’s all well and good. But here’s the deal: gates cost money. Who knew how expensive they could be! Sometimes it takes a lot of money to keep neighbors out. Good thing there’s layaway. You’ll get your gate in installments, just like payments!
A Rivalry Of Comic Proportions
Rivalries have existed long before Family Feud hit ratings heaven. Even in daily life, we have one or two people we’re rivals with. Even if you say you don’t, you know there’s someone. They’re just annoying enough to get under your skin. Or they’re heroes and villains fighting for the future of humanity. These things are weird and action-packed. Either way, some rivalries are fun to watch from afar.
Some of them are so iconic you can’t help but idolize them. Who wouldn’t want to live in Gotham during the height of Batman’s career? Well, probably the citizens of Gotham. From the outside-looking-in it sure was exciting.
The Grass Is Always Brighter
Okay Kevin, we get it, you’re the king of Christmas. Your Victorian-style gingerbread light symphony is gorgeous. We don’t want to compete with it. We also don’t have to. While you waste your electric bill, someone else is thinking with all their bulbs on. Who needs to waste their time decking out their house for the holiday? Just borrow someone else’s cheer!
Christmastime shouldn’t be about competition. Those that have should help out those without. If you have a multi-thousand dollar display, why not let someone else join in on the fun? It’s the neighborly thing to do. Besides, who can really compete with all of that? Are a few of them at least solar-powered?
The Holiday Spirit Is Mad
Traveling through the burbs to see Christmas lights is a time-honored tradition. Piling into the family minivan and gazing at other people’s sky-rocketing electric bills just screams Christmas. It’s fun for the whole family. The problem is these things aren’t cheap. Decorations can cost more than presents! Some people say forget that and just take what they want.
That’s not very Christmasy. Since the holidays are about giving back, these people got creative. This scrooge wasn’t going to ruin their festive moods. Instead of shaming, they thought to help him out. If he needed decorations so badly, why not turn him into one?
Ding! Your Bills Are Ready
Mailboxes were these things that everyone used to have. These ancient relics still kind of exist. Thankfully, online banking, billings, and scamming came along to help us go paperless. However, the classic mailbox still exists; even if it’s more of a novelty than anything else. So why not have some fun and make a statement with your paper mail receiving apparatus?
What statement would that be? Well, if you’re using an old microwave you don’t have many options. We’re thinking this person is saying ramen, and mail, should arrive in three minutes or less. We don’t get the logic, but we appreciate the attempt at upcycling an old appliance.
Birds Need Fresh Air, Too
Remember begging your parents for a dog? The cliche pleading was almost a masterclass in drama and theatrics. Eventually, you had to offer something big. You had to say you’d take them for a walk every single day. Did you mean it? Yeah, sure. Did it work? Not always. Well, when you get older you don’t have to ask anyone.
You can have three parrots for all the neighbors care. As long as you still walk them daily you’re good to go. Okay, most people don’t take their pet birds for a walk. The phrase almost contradicts itself. Those that do may even turn a few heads. They’re not going tweety, they’re just being cool and eccentric.
