Funniest Harry Potter Posts Online
Harry Potter is more than a franchise at this point: it’s an institution. Between the wildly successful books, movies, and video games, the Harry Potter franchise has many millions of fans worldwide. The fact that both the book series and their film adaptations concluded over a decade ago has done little to lessen its impact on popular culture. Tons of people are still talking about the series, and the larger world of Harry Potter, till today. And, of course, the internet being the internet, people have shared a ton of hilarious posts about the franchise.
Whether as memes, jokes about the series, or comparisons to real events, they’re quite good. Let’s take a look at some of them.
Yeah, That Sounds About Right
There’s been a lot to say over the years about the safety standards at Hogwarts. Or the lack thereof. Sometimes , it felt every new book revealed something else profoundly unsafe going on in that school. A big one (literally and figuratively) was, of course, the basilisk. Sure, they thought it was sealed away, but still…that’s quite the hazard living under the school.
One reddit user initially found that a bit unrealistic, as did most of us. At least we did until the real world showed up to try and outdo the fantasy story. Pandemic sweeping the globe? Yeah, we’ll just keep operating as normal. What’s the worst that could happen?
Even Dark Lords Know School Is Important
Many of the books in the Harry Potter series followed a formula. The big danger of that school year, usually orchestrated by Voldemort himself, didn’t take place until the end of the year. Curious, isn’t it? Now, we could of course attribute this to the fact that this is a book series, and that plot structure worked well.
But that’s boring. Voldemort just patiently waited, every year, till near the end of the school year to spring his plan into action. After all, he knows how important getting a good education is. He might be evil, but he’s not THAT evil. Though of course he is always preparing; see him sipping his favorite energy drink to make sure he’s ready!
You’ll Need To Be More Specific
Any Harry Potter fan knows that the Weasley family had quite a few kids–7, in fact. They all could be fairly loud and rowdy at times, and all had red hair. So, you’d really understand if their parents occasionally mixed them up. Parents with fewer children sometimes mix them up too!
So, one online poster couldn’t help but envision a humorous scenario. Someone kidnapped one of the Weasley children, and is trying to demand ransom or something like that. But there’s just one problem. Which kid does he have? He’s going to have to get much more specific. This is somewhat dark humor, but with more emphasis on the humor.
Hard To Argue With That
This…is a pretty good point, actually. Fans had more than a few criticisms of the many-years-later epilogue at the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. One of those criticisms was regarding the names of Harry’s kids. Especially Albus Severus. We were probably among many readers who cringed when they read that.
Jamie’s got a real point here; that’s a name that sounds like it would’ve been picked by some Harry Potter superfan. While there’s nothing inherently wrong with naming your kids after characters you like from a book or movie, have a little sense. Think of the kid’s future in school! Maybe Harry should’ve given it a little more thought too.
Now That You Mention it…
While we learn quite a bit about the magic in the world of Harry Potter throughout the series, plenty is left unexplained. This, unsurprisingly, leads to no small number of plot holes, or at least pointed questions we can ask.
This meme highlights one of those questions that we might not have thought of in the moment, but are there nonetheless. If the magic can easily heal broken bones, and even regrow missing bones…why does Harry still need glasses? Surely there would be some spell or potion that would fix his eyesight? If there is, it’s never mentioned, which makes this meme all the funnier. You’re supposed to have glasses, Harry; don’t ask questions.
Fashions Change
The Fantastic Beasts movies have done quite a bit to expand the world of Harry Potter. They delve into past events, and show us new magical creatures and uses for magic. They also let us see some characters as younger people. One of these, probably the most important, is the future headmaster of Hogwarts, Albus Dumbledore.
However, there’s a noticeable difference between old and young Dumbledore. In place of the long white hair and beard he’s got a very slick look. And he’s wearing a stylish 3-piece suit instead of the elaborate robes we’re used to from the original movies. They’re almost like two completely different people. So, we also want to know. When, and why, did his style change so drastically?
What Was The Point?
This is a classic nitpick many people have had since the first Harry Potter book came out, but it’s still relevant. At the end of the book, it’s revealed that the sorcerer’s stone would only be accessible to someone who wanted to find it, but not use it. Which, of course, is why Harry could get it.
But that being the case, what was the point of the whole climax? According to that logic, there’s no way Voldemort could have gotten it. So if Harry had done nothing, it would’ve been perfectly safe, instead of it nearly falling into his hands. So this meme never fails to get a chuckle out of us. Should’ve just stayed in bed, kid.
That Sums Things Up Pretty Well
While the story of the Harry Potter series continues to be beloved by many, fans aren’t above poking fun at it. In particular, at certain choices that either or weren’t made, which could’ve made things quite a bit easier for the characters. For whatever reason, certain characters just didn’t want to share useful info.
In particular, Dumbledore becomes a major culprit here. Careful readers of the series have noted several instances where things could’ve gone much easier for Harry. If only his mentor had just bothered to share some key information! It’s a bit ironic, then, that one reader found a perfect line to encapsulate this frustration with the wise professor.
Hogwarts Needs A Barber
Each film in the Harry Potter franchise is a different beast. Over the course of the series there were multiple directors, and different style choices made at times. As you might expect, fan opinions varied quite a bit when it came to many of these choices.
This particular fan clearly wasn’t a fan of the hairstyles in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It really does seem to have been a theme in this film. At least these five characters had long, messy hair. On the other hand, this is probably the closest film Harry’s hair comes to matching how his hair was described in the books. So a win for book purists, maybe?
Another Weasley
There are two things which are well known both to Harry Potter fans and to students in Hogwarts. There are a LOT of Weasleys, and that they don’t particularly get along with Professor Snape. In fact, apart from Harry Potter, Snape seemed to have butted heads most often with the Weasley kids.
So, we shouldn’t be surprised to see someone extend that to real life. When the announcement came that Rupert Grint, who played Ron Weasley in the movies, was going to become a father, one fan knew the perfect thing to say. Courtesy of someone on twitter roleplaying as Snape. You can practically hear the late Alan Rickman speak that line.
We’re Right Here, You Know
In the movie, at least, the sorting hat ceremony was more than a little awkward. Whats with the hat monologuing aloud and all that. But our guy Harry didn’t help himself at all, either. Having just heard that Slytherin isn’t a great place, he decided to ask the hat not to put him there. But he was saying this out loud. Somewhat quietly, but still out loud.
Sure would be awkward if anyone heard that. Especially someone from Slytherin. Someone else clearly thought that too, and crafted a pretty funny meme featuring a popular, and very appropriate, reaction meme. And Harry later wondered why people in Slytherin didn’t like him?
How Exactly Does That Work?
The fact that the Weasley family is poor is something that every Harry Potter fan knows well. In-universe too, they’re well known to be poor, and mocked for it multiple times. When we read the books as kids we had no reason to question this. When we got older though, questions arose. Maybe they’re only just poor relative to other wizarding families.
One memer made some good points here. Despite being considered poor, the Weasleys are able to support a large family and own a decent sized house? That’s poor? Ah, the perspective changes we experience as adults. What many of us wouldn’t give to be as “poor” as the Weasleys!
Priorities
We all remember the part in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone where Professor McGonagall scouted Harry for the quidditch team. It was an important moment, since it was when Harry started to really find a place for himself in this brand-new environment. Professor McGonagall even bought him a high-end broom. When we all first read the book, we just saw her making a nice gesture to a new student.
One redditor had an interesting question though. So she could buy an expensive broom for one rich student, okay. But why couldn’t she buy at least good ones for other members of the team who couldn’t afford them? Uh, good question. Maybe because they weren’t the main character of the book?
Uh, Wait. Let’s Try That Again
When we all first read the climax of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the big anagram reveal of Tom Riddle being Voldemort was mind-blowing. It was a great reveal, and both explained some things to us while also setting up even more for later on.
However, there’s a thing with anagrams. People will be able to find other ways to rearrange the letters. And, the internet being the internet, they’ll find a way to make it something inappropriate. From there, it’s an easy jump to imagine a scene where Tom Riddle’s letter rearrangement spell went wrong. That would’ve turned a very tense scene into a really awkward one!
You Think You’ve Got it Bad?
Sometimes, a meme just fits a scene way too well. For anyone who remembers the snafu Harry, Ron, and Hermione encountered in Chamber of Secrets, you probably know where this is going. This is probably one of the more creative uses of the “girls yelling at smug cat meme.”
In case you don’t remember, while the boys complained that the potion didn’t last long enough, Hermione had a slightly bigger problem. She’d been turned into a half human/half cat! Worse, she was stuck that way. Of course, this isn’t exactly how their exchange played out in the book. But if it was a more humorous story, it very well might have looked something like this!
Beaten At His Own Game
As with any fandom, people often cosplay as characters from the Harry Potter series. Of course, the quality of these cosplays varies widely. Some people are able to spend more on higher-quality costumes, or just naturally look more like the characters. With Harry Potter, group cosplays aren’t uncommon, and just add to the effect.
Sometimes, though, it’s the simplest things that make for the best cosplays. Somehow, this little dog managed the best Dobby cosplay possible, completely overshadowing his owner. We’re honestly not sure this image isn’t photoshopped, that dog looks the part so much! Whatever the guy in the picture was intending to portray here, it doesn’t matter. Because Dobby dog.
Message Received
The sorting hat scenes, especially the ones in the movies, easily lend themselves to parody and many jokes. This particular one manages to be funny in several ways. Especially if you remember those scenes, and how they play out. For example, the speed at which the hat makes decisions tells us how fitting a person is for the house they’re assigned to.
So, this guy must REALLY need some therapy. The tweet becomes even funnier for those of us who remember how the hat sounded. For whatever reason, this sounds like something it would say. What a hilarious scene for a Harry Potter parody. Where would the sorting hat send you?
What Could Have Been
Making memes involving the same actor but in different roles is always fun. More so if you can tie it into some deeper aspect of the story of one of those films. We all know that Snape had a thing for Harry’s mom Lily. So, many fans have definitely wondered how Harry might’ve looked had they ended up together.
Well, thanks to the Frankenstein movie, now we know! Daniel Radcliffe’s hairstyle here looks almost identical to the one the late Alan Rickman wore as Snape. Add to that the fact that he looks really pale here, and there you go. Alternate universe Harry where Snape fathered him instead of James.
That’s Better
Harry Potter forced readers to suffer through the deaths of many beloved characters over the course of the series. This was especially true of the final book in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. One of the earlier–but no less painful–deaths in that book was that of Hedwig, Harry’s loyal owl. She died a hero, but many fans still wish things could’ve gone another way.
Well, look no further! One fan went not just to the trouble of crafting an alternate scene, but they even “edited” a copy of the book to fix Hedwig’s fate. And we have to say, they did a pretty good job making it all fit well! The good ending.
A Wise Precaution
This isn’t something we necessarily would’ve thought about, but we suppose this poster has a point. Voldemort’s return and Cedric Diggory’s death did happen during a big sporting event. One that many readers were as excited for as many people in the book (and movie) were. As humans, we’re very good at seeing patterns, both good and bad.
So we can’t really blame this fan for being a little superstitious about it. The last thing you’d want would be to see another disaster take place, after all! So perhaps their concern is justified. If they don’t get excited for the superbowl, maybe things won’t go horribly wrong. We’d rather not have Voldemort return (again) too!
Any Time Now
While certain things often work well, in a dramatic sense, in stories, when we try to imagine how that might work in real life…things work differently. The climax of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone provides one such example.
It was a pretty dramatic reveal when Professor Quirrell (with Voldemort attached to his head) appeared, having been waiting for Harry. But the part we didn’t see was him (them?) waiting in awkward silence. What were they doing while Harry and friends were getting past the various challenges? Well, it might’ve looked something like this classic Mr. Bean waiting meme. “We’ll finally pull off our evil scheme…once that kid finally shows up.”
Of Course I Know Him. He’s Me
There is no shortage of jokes that fans make about the controversial epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. And many of those, of course, revolve around the somewhat unfortunately-named Albus Severus Potter. However, this time the joke isn’t about that name.
It’s simply a riff on the little talk Harry has with him. In the original scene, Harry is explaining the significance of his son’s middle name, so he wouldn’t be upset to be sorted into Slytherin, should that happen. In this retelling, Harry just named his son after himself. He killed Voldemort, after all, which makes him awesome. It’s kinda hard to argue with that, to be honest.
I Should Not Have Said That
Hagrid’s “I shouldn’t have said that” line from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone has become a rather beloved meme. It can be used in so many different situations, after all, and it’s always funny. So you wouldn’t be surprised to learn that it pops up pretty often on reddit.
In response to this “ask reddit” post themed on this line, there are quite a number of hilarious responses. But one really stood out. Because it’s a bit familiar. When did Hagrid set up his own reddit account? And how is he making the same mistake twice? The follow-up reply to that comment really is just the cherry on top. Really should not have said that.
That’s Not How it Went!
Film adaptations of books are always a bit of a contentious topic. Many fans of the book want a “perfect” adaptation: a one-to-one conversion of the story from the page to the screen. However, that’s almost always impossible to do. Books and movies are just different mediums, and some changes have to be made. This includes both cutting and adding things, though good adaptations still remain generally faithful.
No matter how good the adaptation might be, though, there will always be fans noting every single change. Everything that differs from the book. With books as big as the Harry Potter books, that was pretty often. This guy clearly knows his Harry Potter backward and forward.
What Do You Expect Me To Do?
Harry’s confrontation with Snape upon his return to Hogwarts in the final film of the series was a pretty emotional moment. Harry had seen Snape kill Dumbledore, after all, and at this point thinks he’s evil. His line here is calling out Snape for taking Dumbledore’s place as headmaster. He’s not fit to fill Dumbledore’s shoes, according to Harry anyway.
But there will always be people who question the technical logic behind lines like this. And in this meme, they use an incredulous-looking Snape to voice that. And yeah, he’s got a point. Dumbledore probably has stood everywhere in the school. What’s a guy to do, ride everywhere on a broom?
The Real Problem
The age of actors compared to the characters they play is often discussed by fans. Most of the time, when there is a noticeable age difference, it’s actors playing characters younger than they actually are. The Harry Potter franchise actually handled this very well with its main cast. They were at least pretty close to the intended age of their characters the entire time.
This wasn’t the case with every casting in the series though, as one viewer abruptly points out. One wonders why they couldn’t find an actor who was actually 21 to play James Potter. Maybe having an older-looking actor would make it clearer he was Harry’s dad. In any case, some people still aren’t over it, clearly.
The Things You Miss
There are endless fan theories and similar things that have come out of the Harry Potter fandom. Of course, few if any of them can be confirmed to fit within the story’s canon. Or so you thought! One poster points out that Harry Potter is a notoriously unobservant character. And, since he is the primary (almost the only) viewpoint character in the series, how much did he miss?
Several replies then helpfully shared several pretty major things that Harry missed throughout the series. This, at least in theory, opens the door to at least some of those fun fan theories being true? We can hold onto hope, at least, right?
A Fate Worse Than Death
Everyone remembers Hermione’s iconic line from the first Harry Potter movie. You know, the one where she made it sound like getting expelled was a fate worse than death? Well, do you think her friends only heard that line once? Surely not.
We can easily see Harry having this response to Sirius’s statement. He’d spent years around Hermione at this point. So it’s entirely possible he, to some extent, internalized her personal sense of priorities. Of course, you can also read this meme another way. With Harry trying to make a joke to defuse tension, but it just falling flat. Sirius just didn’t get it. Either way, a very clever reference to make there!
Can’t You See It?
If you look around online, you can find tons of really cool Harry Potter themed tattoos. They can get really elaborate and impressive, representing different things from the series. It can be hard, though, to come up with an original idea for one. Since so many things from the series have already been turned into tattoos.
But never fear! One enterprising redditor has come up with a neat Harry Potter tattoo idea that you’ve never seen. In fact, we can guarantee that you’ve never seen it. Neither has anyone else. And no one ever will! Okay, enough of that. But yes, the Harry Potter in his invisibility cloak tattoo is a clever little joke. Well played.
Character Development?
Ouch, this meme hits hard. And it really is a pretty accurate way to describe the series and Harry’s character development. The first few books in the series were much more upbeat, and Harry definitely got to enjoy being, well, Harry Potter. Sure, there were dangers, but things weren’t all that serious.
By book number 4, however, things started taking a darker turn. Suddenly, being Harry Potter really became a burden for our protagonist. More and more people were out to get him and those close to him. If Harry had been more inclined to use profanity, we could see him describing his school years like this. At least things calmed down after book seven!
Parental Parity in Potter Parodies
Everyone honors Lily Potter’s sacrificial love for Harry, right? She’s the patron saint of wizard-mom martyrdom. But hey, what about James Potter? Dude equally bit the dust confronting ol’ snake-face Voldemort. Where’s his moment of reverence? It’s like the wizarding world has selective amnesia, praising Lily for her brave stand, while James’ sacrifice gets a ‘meh’ reaction. James must be rolling in his ghostly grave, mumbling, “Hey, I died too, you know!”
Now, we’re all for gender equality, but this is sacrificial parental parity we’re talking about! Time to raise a Butterbeer to James Potter, the unsung dad-hero. Remember folks, it takes two to tango… and to make a boy-who-lived.
Eagles Soaring in Raven’s Clothing
Enter the confusing world of Hogwarts house symbols, where raven means eagle. Yep, you heard right. Ravenclaw’s emblem? It’s an eagle. Bizarre, we know. It’s as if Slytherin’s symbol was a mongoose instead of a serpent. It’s like the wizarding world took a leaf out of our muggle “literal translation” book and completely missed the mark. “Ravenclaw? Must mean they love birds. Let’s choose… an eagle!” It’s either a huge cosmic joke or the emblem designer had a field day.
We wonder if the Sorting Hat ever gets confused. “Hmm, intelligence, wit, learning… off to… Eagleclaw?!” It’s Hogwarts’ version of a dad joke, really. Next, we’ll discover Hufflepuff’s badger is actually a panda.
Magical Standoff Invades Muggle Netflix
Alright, folks, hold onto your horcruxes! Umbridge and McGonagall have infiltrated Muggle Netflix, and it’s a face-off that could hex your streaming marathon. So, you’re chilling, browsing thumbnails, when BOOM, your TV screen drops an unexpected crossover. There’s Umbridge, except she’s not in nauseating pink, glaring at our beloved McGonagall.
Except, she’s not in wizarding robes, but in Downton Abbey’s dowager countess garb. It’s an intense glare-off, a ‘who-wore-the-glare-best’ contest, if you will. It’s a wild sight, really. A Hogwarts spat in British high society. It’s enough to make you spill your pumpkin juice! Well, at least there’s no threat of detention or cat plates. Yet.
Slytherin’s Subtlety, or Lack Thereof
Speaking of obvious clues that flew over our heads! Remember when we were all wringing our hands over the identity of the Slytherin’s monster? The emblem of Slytherin is a snake. The monster speaks Parseltongue. And yet, we were all surprised when it turned out to be… drumroll please… a snake!
It’s like going to a bakery, seeing a sign for ‘Baker’s Special,’ surrounded by pictures of doughnuts, and being shocked that the special is a doughnut! The clue bus couldn’t have been more direct unless it hit us head-on. We suppose we can blame those magical red herrings. Or maybe we all needed a crash course in ‘Symbolism 101’.
Potter Plots: Casual Synopsis Edition
Ah, the memory Olympics of Harry Potter movie titles. Miss a word or two? Just make up your own! Suddenly, ‘Chamber of Secrets’ morphs into ‘Harry Potter and the Giant Snake’. Subtle, yet straight to the point. This casual Potter-naming could make for a hilarious game. “Goblet of Fire”? Nah, it’s “Harry Potter and the Dangerous Triathlon”. “Order of Phoenix”? More like “Harry Potter Starts a Club”. And my favorite, “Prisoner of Azkaban”?
We present to you “Harry Potter and the Fugitive Godfather”. You might confuse some muggles, but Potterheads would nod knowingly. Bonus points for creativity! Though, we’d be a bit concerned if you shortened “Half-Blood Prince” to “Harry Potter and the Obsessive Textbook”. Might need to work on that one.
Potter’s Dark Twist
What’s up with the Harry Potter series pulling a fast one on us? It started like an enchanting after-school special – cute kids, magic spells, friendly giants. Then WHAM, it went full-on dark, angst-ridden teenage drama faster than you can say ‘Quidditch’. Watching the series is like opening a box of Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans expecting toffee and getting earwax.
One minute, you’re battling an oversized chess set, and the next, you’re fighting off soul-sucking Dementors. Talk about an emotional rollercoaster! We didn’t sign up for ‘Game of Thrones’ with wands.! And yet, we stayed, strapped in for the bumpy, exhilarating ride. Because admit it, who can resist a good ‘Chosen One’ drama?
The Ultimate Cliff’s Notes
The Harry Potter series in a nutshell? It’s a perpetual game of ‘catch-up with Dumbledore’. Our esteemed headmaster is a vault of secrets, dishing out plot twists like confetti at a surprise party. A true maestro of the ‘need-to-know’ basis. And of course there’s Harry, perpetually befuddled. He spends half the series in a whirl of questions, like a tourist lost in Diagon Alley. It’s the classic ‘lost-in-the-magic-sauce’ vibe.
Finally, it’s the recklessly brave hero’s journey. Harry consistently walks that thin line between bold and bonkers. He’s the poster child for ‘act first, think later’, sprinkling audacity and missteps in equal measure. It’s a wild, heart-stopping rollercoaster, with Harry donning the hat of a daredevil Gryffindor at every twist and turn.
Harry’s Crash Course in Godfatherhood
Enter Harry ‘Always Ready’ Potter, the teen wizard who got bumped up to godfather status quicker than you can say ‘Expelliarmus’. Lupin and Tonks, with a casual, “Hey, want to be our kid’s godfather?”, handed him the world’s most significant babysitting gig. Then, they bow out of the scene, leaving poor Harry stuttering, “Wait, what just happened?” Now, he’s stuck with a kid who could probably beat him at Quidditch before he hits puberty.
You’d think after fighting off a dark wizard, this wouldn’t phase him. But it’s not like he can use a Patronus charm to change diapers. It’s parenting on hard mode: wizard baby edition. Harry Potter: The boy who lived, the teen who survived, the godfather who… had no idea what hit him.
Muggle Millennials Echo Wizard Woes
Our millennial and Gen Z crew must be feeling a tad too Hogwarts-y these days. Pandemics, economic rollercoasters, geopolitical anxieties, they’ve got their own version of ‘Defense Against the Dark Arts’ going on. Their plight is so akin to Harry, Ron, and Hermione’s annual Hogwarts chaos that we’re just one talking portrait away from merging realities. It’s like they’re living the perpetual sequel: “Harry Potter and the Cursed Millennials.”
Remember the trio’s wish for a quiet year? Well, here we are, collective sigh in tow, echoing the same sentiment. Just once, we’d like to skip the Voldemort-level events and experience “Harry Potter and the Unremarkable Peaceful Year.”
Harry’s School Transfer, A Missed Cue
Talk about Dumbledore dropping a truth bomb on Harry in the first movie! He casually mentions the possibility of Voldemort’s return, and we’re all expecting Harry to scream “School Transfer, please!” But nope, he just nods, like, “Cool, I’ll stay.” Seriously, if our headmaster told me my mortal enemy might pop back for a rematch, we’d be like, “Thanks for the memories, but it’s time for a study abroad program. Beauxbatons, anyone?”
But Harry? He sticks around! Either he’s got Gryffindor guts or he’s really into Hogwarts’ meal plan. It’s like choosing to stay in a haunted house because the Wi-Fi’s strong. The logic’s astounding. Then again, without this brave/stubborn move, we wouldn’t have gotten seven books of magic, mayhem, and memorable friendships. Still, a school swap might’ve been less stressful, Potter!
