Anthony Hopkins has long been a master of bringing characters to life, though never as chillingly as he did when portraying serial killer (and cannibal) Hannibal Lecter.

During many scenes, he gave Lecter distinctive little ticks and personality quirks that helped make him that much more unsettling.

In particular, one scene stands out. He quips to a horrified Jodie Foster that he’d enjoy a person’s liver with “fava beans and a nice Chianti.” The following hiss was all Hopkins’ idea.
