In fact, there are more acres of corn, 13.1 million, than people in the entire state, roughly 3 million.

Needless to say, the stereotype is that nothing happens in Iowa since it is just a mid-western state filled with lots of corn.

However, the state of Iowa plays a key role in the Presidential elections, as it is the first state to vote on who they think is most fit to serve the office of President of the United States.

Even though the Iowa caucus is the first of the presidential primaries, winners of the caucus do not always secure the nomination.

In 2018 Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz won the Iowa caucus, and so did Democratic candidate Pete Buttigege in 2020, however they both failed in securing the final nominations of their respective parties.
